Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the diseases that can be prevented, but it is necessary to have management that can improve the quality of life and prevent complications due to hypertension. Hypertension management can use pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Non-pharmacological management can use yoga and mindfulness meditation as complementary therapies. Objective: To improve the knowledge of health cadres about hypertension management and to improve knowledge and skills of complementary therapies that can be used to help control hypertension through mindfulness meditation and yoga. Method: During the session, we used discussions and direct practice method. Result: The participation of cadres in this activity is 67% of the total expected target, this is because cadres have other activities that cannot be abandoned. In addition, from this activity, there is an increase in the knowledge of cadres about hypertension and an increase in skills and capabilities in practicing mindfulness meditation and yoga. Conclusions: Some research results on the practice of mindfulness meditation and yoga regularly can help control blood pressure in people with hypertension. Meditation and yoga exercises can be carried out regularly in order to provide optimal impact. We recommend that you still carry out yoga exercises accompanied by experienced instructors to prevent physical injury due to movement errors, especially if you have never done yoga. Regular exercise is expected to help control hypertension.

Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays, informal caregiver for elderly are largely needed. Unfortunately, they do not get formal education about health. This causes the services provided to be limited from previous experiences, discussions with friends who have been in similar conditions, or the words of friends. This condition can reduce the quality of caregiver services and the quality of life of the elderly. The provision of education and training for informal caregivers is expected to help overcome this condition. Objective: to improve informal caregiver knowledge and skills about fracture and dislocation. Method: discussion and direct practice method were used. Result: the informal caregivers participation were 100% for all meetings. The comprehension about fracture and dislocation first aid also improved, proven by pre and post test score. Based on observation using check list, the skill were also increased. Conclussion: some researches showed that contiuous education and practice for informal caregiver can reduce stres and improve their ability to served elderly. It was shown form the result that the carever comprehension and skill was also increase. Similar activities can be done in order to establish caregiver better coping mechanism and confdence.

Abstract

Introduction: Elderly is an age group that is at risk of experiencing disturbances in body tissues, one of which is skin tissue. The structure of the elderly's skin changes, including dry skin, wrinkles, and itching. The Sukoharjo Village, which is under the auspices of the Bareng Health Center, only has 16 health cadres and functions as an informal caregiver to care for the elderly indirectly. Informal caregivers do not have a formal educational background in terms of skin care, causing problems related to their competence. Objective: The purpose of this service was to improve the ability and skills of health cadres in elderly skin care. Method: This public service was conducted by lectured, discussion, and demonstration. The approach taken is to provide education about long-term care and skin care as well as training in elderly skin care through bathing the elderly. Result: The activity partners were 16 health cadres in RW 1 and 2, Sukoharjo Village. The results of the activity showed an increase in knowledge of 40% of cadres who had good knowledge, while 73% of health cadres had good skills in providing skin care to the elderly. Conclusion: Health cadres who are given training on elderly skin care are expected to be able to transfer the knowledge that has been given to caregivers who are in RW 1 and RW 2 for the sake of improving the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

Introduction: The old people who lives in nursing home received health care services, which is provided by formal caregivers. Most caregivers do not received health education about emergency, and therefore may not be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of emergencies in old people. When an emergency occurs, the assistance cannot be properly delivered and delay the referral decission. Objective: The purpose of this community service was to provide education about emergency in older people and improved ability to calculate Early Warning System Score (EWSS). Method: This public service was carried out by team form STIKes Panti Waluya Malang. This activity was conducted over three session. To increase caregiver knowledge, the community service team provided education through lecture and discussion. In order to improve caregiver’s skill, case based learning method was used to calculate EWSS score. Result: There was an increase in caregiver’s knowledge about 25%. Additionally, 86% caregivers were able to calculate and interpreted EWSS score. Conclusion: Providing education about older people emergency condition through lectures and discussion could improve caregiver’s knowledge. Furthermore, EWSS scoring can be applied in old people nursing home to provide objective assessment during referral.
