Abstract

Abstract             The gastropods play an important role as bioindicators of environmental quality due to its living habits is relatively sedentary in one area for a long period and pass the impact of environmental changing. This research aims to recognise types, abundance, distribution of gastropods and the relationship organic content of sediment to the gastropods abundance. This research was held atn November 2017 in mangrove ecosystem Sungai Cingam Village, Rupat Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency. The method used was survey method, meanwhile the determination of research points were measured by purposive sampling method. The research area was devided into 3 (three) stations where each station consists of 3 (three) transects. Each transect has 3 (three) plots measuring 3m x 3m. The results of research on mangrove ecosystem of Cingam River Village found 18 species of gastropods. Abundance of gastropods ranged from 13.44 to 16.19 individuals / m² with the highest abundance found in Station II with good mangrove forest condition Grouping is distribution formula of gastropods in mangrove ecosystem at Cingam Village. Organic content of sediment is around 6.96% to 8.98%.The highest organic content in Station II and the lowest in station III. The result of simple regression test obtained the equation y = 5.2158 + 1.2555x with correlation value (r) = 0.812 indicates strong connection between organic content of sediment and abundance of gastropods. Keywords : Abundance, Gastropods, Mangrove Ecosystem, Bengkalis

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the condition of nesting beaches favored by green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and the effect of incubation temperature (heating source from incandescent) towards the incubation and hatching rate success. This research was conducted in October to December 2016 at the Turtle Breeding Facility at Jemur Island. This research used survey and experiment method. The research showed that the safe nesting ground with some vegetation on location I and the least predator at the location II, the wide beach area, and sloping beach with fine sand which making it easier for green turtles in digging the nest. These conditions were the reasons why green turtles choose Jemur Island as their nesting ground. Incubation temperatures effects the hatching rate success and hatching time of sea turtle’s eggs. The treatment that has the highest hatching rate is a 25 Watt light with average temperatures of 29.7oC which is 83.33%. Treatment using a 25 Watt light is the best treatment, with a highest numbers of hatching rate and has the fastest hatching time. Keywords: Hatching Egg turtle, Chelonia mydas, Jemur Island

Abstract

The study to observe the species composition and abundance on mudskipper fish was conducted in July 2013 in Dumai coastal waters of Riau Province, Indonesia. They study was carried out in providing the lack information on the biological aspects of the mudskipper from Indonesian seas in general, and of the riau’s coasts in particular. They study used a survey method by selecting 3 different stations as the sampling sites. Fish sampels were collected during the low tide. The quadrant were used in the field in facilitating the survey in fish abudance, whilst the identification was commenced in the Laboratory of Marine Biology of University of Riau. The resuld showed that a number of three species of the mudskipper were sucessfully recorded, i.e. Periopthalmodon schlosseri, Periopthalmus variabilis (Eggert) and Baleopthalmus boddarti (Pall). In terms of abudance, the highest, 0,1733 individuals/m2 was recorded in station I and the lowest 0,0867 individuals/m2, was found in stations III. Based on the diversity index (H’), it was reported that the Dumai coast had moderate diversity of the mudskipper. None of the fish was dominating the population since the dominance index (C) was very close to null from each station. It can be concluded that the habitats of mudskipper in Dumai coasts were in the state of unstable due to its E value in which also close to one.   Keywords : Mudskipper, species composition, abudance, Riau
