Abstract

The research was conducted in October 2015. The samples were taken in mangrove forest of Untut Island of Teluk Meranti District of Pelalawan Regency of Riau Province. The sample was analyzed in the Laboratory of Marine Chemistry and Laboratory of Marine Biology of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Riau. The result showed the average of sucker snail (C. quadrata) in each station ranged from 1-6.22 ind/m2. The abundance of C. quadrata among station I, station II and III was not different significanty (p<0.01) while in station II and III was different significanty (p>0.05). The most dominant individual size of C. quadrata was found in station 3 (2-3.99 cm) which comprising of 64 individuals. The distribution pattern of C. quadrata in each station in the research area was in the from of groups. Keywords: Abudance, distribution of gastropods, mangrove forest, Untut Island.

Abstract

This study was conducted in December 2013 at Dumai river estuary. Thestudy aims were to determine the abundance distribution of mangrove snail (T.telescopium) and correlation between abundance and sediment organic content. The method used was a survey method. Samples of snail population and sedimentwere collected by a single visit during low tide. Location of study was dividedinto 3 stations. Station I located inside the conservation area, station II waslocated close to shipyard, while station III laid near by a residential community. The analysis carried out in Marine Biologi Laboratory of Riau University. The results of the study show that the highest abundance of snail was atthe station III (6,55 ind/m2) and the lowest was at the station I (1,99 ind/m2).Statistical analysis (Anova) show that there was no significant differentabundance among those stations. Regression analysis show that the relationshipbetween the abundance of T. telescopium and organic sediment content wasnegatively correlated (r = 0,453).Keywords: Telescopium telescopium, abundance, organic Sediment, Dumai Riverestuary

Abstract

The research was carried out in April 2013 to analyze the content of heavy metal Pb, Cu and Zn in soft tissues and shells of hard clam (Meretrix meretrix) from coastal waters of Batubara and to find out the correlation between size and content of heavy metals in both hard and soft tissues, as well as to determine the safe level for consumption of this organism. The results showed that the content of heavy metals Pb in the shells is higher than in soft tissues while Cu and Zn is higher in the soft tissues. The average heavy metals content in soft tissues were different with size, where Pb (1,83 μg/g) and Cu (4,25 μg/g) was found to be higher in larger size and Zn (23,44 μg/g) was found to be higher in smaller size. In the shells Pb was higher in smaller size (2,96 μg/g), Cu was higher in larger size (4,35 μg/g) and Zn was higher in larger size (23,44 μg/g).

Abstract

ABSTRACT                The aims of study was to analyze the relationship of planktonic diatoms  abundance with the concentration of nitrate, phosphate and silicate from the Teluk Buoof waters. Placement of sampling location using purposive sampling that was by dividing the research location into four station with 3 point of sampling at each station in Teluk Buo waters which serve as research location. Field sampling was conducted in March 2018 and the observation and identification of planktonic diatoms were conducted in Marine Biology Laboratory of the Fisheries and Marine Faculty of Riau University. The results showed that nitrate concentration in Teluk Buo waters ranged from 0.0125 - 0.0333 mg/l, phosphate concentration ranged from 0.0413 - 0.0841 mg/l,and  silicate concentrations ranged from 0.0228 - 0.0354 mg/l. Nine species of plantonic diatoms were finded in Teluk Buo of waterswasBiddulphia sp, Isthimisp, Coscinodiscus sp, Flagilaria sp, Nitzschia sp, Navicula sp, Aulacoseira sp, Bacillaria sp, dan Cymbella sp. The average abundance of diatoms in these waters 181-250 ind/l. Regression test results, nitrate correlation value with diatomic abundance shows a relationshipwas positive, while the value of phosphate and silicate correlation with diatomic abundance shows a relationshipwas negative.           Key word : Planktonic Diatoms, Nitrate, Phosphate and Silicate, Teluk Buo Waters

Abstract

A study on the density, sex ratio of cockles (A. granosa) was conducted in Panipahan coastal mud-flat during May to August 2015. Two zones of 100 m and 250 m from coast line were established. Each sampling zone were divided into 5 plots of 1 m2. Apparently average density of cockles ranged from 25.9 - 28.4 ind/m2. There was no significant differently of cockles density between zones (p>0.05). Sex-ratio male/female appeared 1:1.27.Keyword : Density, Sex Ratio, Anadara granosa and Panipahan

Abstract

The research was conducted in December 2015 in Anak Setatah Village, District of Meranti Archipelago. This research aimed to analyze the density of mangrove, sediment organic content, abundance of macroepifauna, relationships between density of mangrove and organic content in sediment with macroepifauna abundance. Mangrove density measurements was done using 10 x 10 m² observation plots, whilst sampling of macroepifauna using 5 x 5 m² plot with two replication at each plot. The results of the research showed that water quality parameters measured were still in the range of water quality criteria for marine organisms. Density of mangrove in Station 1 was 2,283.33 ind/ha and in Station 2 was 1,283.33 ind/ha. The sediment organic content in Station 1 was 15.10 % and Station 2 was 15.50 %. The macroepifauna abundance in Station 1 was 4,600 ind/ha and Station 2 was 1,200 ind/ha. Non significant posititive correlation between sediment organic content and macroepifauna abundance was found which shown by regression equation in Station 1 y = 2966,8 + 72,851x, R2 = 0,002, r = 0.04 and Station 2 y = 483.1 + 20.435x, R2 = 0.0007, r = 0.026. Non significant postitive correlation between mangrove density and macroepifauna abundance was also found and shown by regression equation y = 1266.5 + 0.3081x, R² = 0.105 r = 0.324 (Station 1) and y = 503.27 + 0.2312x, R2 = 0.0108, r = 0.103 (Station 2).Key Word: mangrove, organic, sediment, macroepifauna

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was conducted in April-May 2014 in an area of mangrove forest in Pangkalan Sesai Region Dumai city. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in litter decomposition rates of different mangrove species at several locations in Pangkalan Sesai Region and to understand the contribution of nutrients (N and P) production of mangrove litter on different type of mangrove. The method used was the method of surveying, sampling and testing of mangrove litter decomposition rates in the mangrove forest in Pangkalan Sesai Region. Nitrate and Phosphate sample analysis carried out in the Laboratory Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences University of Riau. The highest rate of litter decomposition found in Avicennia sp at Station I which took place on the 30th day was the decomposition of 6.67 grams, with a percentage of 2.22% per day. Depreciation lowest leaves are exist at Station III is the species of Rhizophora sp 6.876gr which lost weight at 3.13 grams. Average production potential of nutrients (N and P) based on the type of mangrove in the entire station is nutrients nitrate in Avicennia sp 0.0002 g-N/m2/day, Xylocarpus sp 0.0002 g-N/m2/day, and Rhizophora sp 0.0001 g-N/m2/day. For nutrient phosphate in Avicennia sp 0.0010 g-P/m2/day, Xylocarpus sp 0.0052 g-P/m2/day, Rhizophora sp 0.0054 g-P /m2/day.Key Word: Mangrove, Litter, The rate of dekompostion, Nutrient, Pangkalan Sesai.
