Abstract

Network security and efficiency are important aspects in managing network infrastructure, especially in wireless networks that are prone to various forms of attacks. This research aims to design a more secure and efficient wireless network and file server authentication system using the WPA2-Enterprise protocol and a RADIUS server. In this design, the WPA2-Enterprise protocol is used to improve the security of wireless network access with a user identity-based authentication method, not just a generic password. To improve the efficiency of the authentication process, a RADIUS server is used. The RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service) server functions as a centralised authentication centre that verifies user credentials from a predefined database. The system in this research integrates file server service authentication and wireless network usage authentication. Test results show that this design successfully provides more secure authentication, prevents unauthorised access, and simplifies user and access rights management. The use of a RADIUS server and the WPA2-Enterprise protocol allows for flexibility and efficiency in implementing the system in a campus environment. The implementation of this system can be a practical solution in improving the security and efficiency of the wireless network authentication process and internal file server services.

Abstract

Currently, the use of Internet technology is overgrowing. With the current pandemic conditions, a student or worker must carry out activities remotely using the internet network, especially the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) network. This research describes the performance comparison of a WLAN network using 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies in the tethering process on smartphones. Determining the performance of a WLAN network that works at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies will be focusing of this study. The study of literature, the internet, and observation for data collection is the method used in this study. Quality of Service (QOS) measures the performance of the two WLAN networks with parameters including throughput, packet loss, and delay values. This network performance test was carried out using scenarios in urban and rural areas in the WLAN network tethering process with a frequency of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This wireless LAN network comparison analysis process uses Wireshark supporting software to maximize measurement. The results of measurements using the QOS parameter are then analyzed, and whether the category of good or bad wireless LAN network performance quality uses the TIPHON standard is known.

Abstract

Mikrotik Routeros is a popular network operating System used by network administrators. Equipped with a Firewall feature, managing Filter rules in controlling network access is important. However, the WEB interface or CLI can be difficult and time-consuming. One management alternative is to use the Mikrotik API which allows access through integrated programs or applications. Winbox is a common GUI application for controlling network access, but it has some problems. Users may cause accidental errors, and this app is only available for Windows, not for Mac os or Linux. Other alternatives such as CLI and API can be accessed from various platforms. At Amikom University, Yogyakarta, problems arOSe at the UPT (Technical Implementation Unit) Lab because they were still using Winbox to manage network permissions, especially on Filter rules. Therefore, this research project aims to reduce user errors by using the Mikrotik API. The use of this API enables more efficient and effective management of Filter rules through programs or applications as needed, increasing overall network security.
