Abstract

This research aims to develop collaborative activities through project-based learning at the university level. The subjects of the study were 30 students in the mathematics education program. The development was carried out using a sequential design research method, starting from the preparation phase, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. To support this research, instruments such as monitoring and evaluation, documentation, activity observation sheets, and performance progress sheets were used. The data analysis was conducted using the trustworthiness method. The results showed that the activities with various targets began with activities, interviews, FGDs, and ended with constructive experiments. With these activities, positive changes were shown by students through the outcomes produced. The positive changes refer to the ability to identify problems, organize group members in constructive discussions, and perform constructive experiments to prepare solutions to the problems being solved. Moreover, this learning process further complements the students' competencies.

Abstract

This qualitative research with a descriptive approach aims to describe the learning opportunities provided and the mathematical literacy skills achieved by eighth-grade students at Public Junior High School 14 in Makassar. The subjects of the study were one teacher and 28 students. Data collection techniques included observation, tests, and interviews. The research instruments included observation sheets, tests of mathematical literacy skills, and interview guidelines. The data validation technique applied was source triangulation. The data analysis techniques in this study were: 1) data condensation, 2) data presentation, and 3) drawing conclusions. The results of the research showed that the learning opportunities provided by the teacher were not sufficient to support students' learning activities, including content coverage, content emphasis, content exposure, and the quality of instructional delivery. This had an impact on the students' achievement of mathematical literacy skills, which were still predominantly in the low category. Teachers need to innovate in the area of learning opportunities to support students with diverse abilities, capacities, and the availability of facilities that support learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the relationship between self-confidence and mathematical problem-solving ability experienced by students for straight line equation material. This research was conducted using quantitative and qualitative methods where the subjects involved were 30 students of SMPN 7 Barru. The instruments used were questionnaires, math problems, and interview guidelines. The results showed that subjects with a high level of self-confidence showed a more thorough fulfillment of the criteria than other subjects. Even subjects classified as moderate and low levels of self-confidence are still more lacking to fulfill the aspects reviewed in this search. What can be compared between the three subjects is that they can identify the information provided with equally good ability. However, the ability to determine the concept used, the subject with a moderate level of confidence was not as good as the other two subjects. Similarly, for the subject with a low level of self-confidence, in determining the relationship with other subjects and confidence in the answers he gave was not better than the other two subjects.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' critical thinking ability (CTA) in solving mathematical problems on the topic of fractions based on cognitive styles. The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method, involving two students from SMPN 2 Takalar as subjects. The instruments used were the GEFT test, a critical thinking ability test, and interview guidelines. The results of the study showed that overall, FI students demonstrated better abilities in analysis, evaluation, and inference compared to FD students. Although both had equal abilities in interpretation, FI students stood out in overall critical thinking ability based on the given indicators. Additionally, FD students were less capable of making conjectures, formulating, and providing reasons for solutions. However, they performed well in manipulating mathematics. Moreover, FD students were unable to draw conclusions and check the validity of arguments. On the other hand, FI students were able to make conjectures, manipulate mathematics, draw conclusions from statements, and check the validity of arguments. Cognitive style is important in critical thinking activities for learning fractions; therefore, students should be given learning opportunities to not remain static in their current cognitive style.
