Abstract

Waves moved from sea to coast cause erosion on the shore. The purpose of this research is to simulate the effect of submerged breakwater on wave characteristics. The method used in this research was wave simulation with several variations of the wave period, the number of breakwater and the distance between two breakwaters. The simulation used was laboratory simulation and numerical method using CADMAS Surf 2D software. The results showed that the wave height decreased with the addition of breakwater and the addition of the distance between two breakwaters. Furthermore, the wave starts to change when Froude number (fr) = 2,8. Based on the simulation froude value is generated > 1 so it still less effective to preventing abrasion. Keywords : Submerged Breakwater, CADMAS Surf 2D, Characteristics of Wave

Abstract

According to the peatland fire risk index, peat soils with a water table depth of more than 40 cm are at the very risk of land fires. Groundwater Level (GWL) plays an important role in determining the risk of fire. So that if changes in groundwater level in the future can be predicted, the risk of fire can also be minimized. The purpose of this study was to create a hydrological model to predict the depth of groundwater level (GWL) as a parameter of the potential for the fire to occur in peatlands using analysis. The data used for modeling are rainfall data and groundwater level data that have been recorded historically in peatlands with the installation of the SESAME tool at the study site. Regression analysis was carried out using four data length scenarios, namely 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months to determine the periods that could represent hydrological conditions in the field. The results of the study resulted in a regression formulation for the prediction of the data length of 3 months, namely: Wn + 1 = Wn + 1,049 × R - (-0.0093 × Wn) + 0.0153, data length 6 months: Wn + 1 = Wn + 0.577 × R - (-0.0272 × Wn) + 0.0233, 9 months data length: Wn + 1 = Wn + 0.612 × R - (-0.0287 × Wn) + 0.0237, 12 months data length: Wn + 1 = Wn + 0.666×R - (-0.0248 × Wn) + 0.0229. Abstract

Peatland is a type of land that is flammable. One of the causes is land dryness that is caused by the formation of many canal networks. To reduce the possibility of damage to land, a rewetting effort is made. Rewetting is done by building a canal blocker. The construction of canal blocking is an effort to increase the capacity of the water in peatlands, and also to be able to prevent the decrease of water level in peatlands. This study analyzes the velocity and direction of groundwater flow before and after the canal blocking which is measured with the Groundwater Velocimeter instrument on each monitoring well. Based on the groundwater flow analysis which uses the Groundwater Velocimeter method in Dompas Village, Bengkalis Regency, it can be concluded that the highest velocity of the groundwater flow before the canal blocking occured in SP1-2, based on the Image J method which obtained a velocity of 0.09 m/day, and for the visual method, the highest velocity SP 2-4 was 0.28 m/day. While the highest velocity of the groundwater flow after the canal blocking occured in SP 1-4, based on the Image J method which obtained a velocity of 0.107 m/day, and for the visual method, the highest velocity that obtained at SP 2-4 was 0.43 m/day. Abstract

Rangsang Island is described as a peat island located on the east coast of Riau Province. Due to the high conversion of peatlands, the peat of Rangsang Island is degraded and continuously emits emissions. Efforts to restore degraded peatlands are implementing good water management. In assessing the condition of the peatland water system, this study will analyze the water balance in the Peat Hydrological Unit (PHU) of Rangsang Island to determine the condition and quantity of water contained in the peatland. The model used in peatland water balance modeling is the Thornthwaite & Mather Water Balance (TMWB model). The analysis and discussion will examine the condition of the peatland water balance in the Rangsang Island PHU which is calculated using the land water balance method. From the results of this study, the condition of the water balance of the peatlands in Sub PHU 3, Rangsang Island, is dominantly experiencing deficit months. The deficit months occurred in January, February, March, May, July, August, October and December. The total water deficit is -104.20 M3. While the wet months occur in April, June, September and November. The total surplus of water is 26.15 million m3. The total water deficit for a year when compared to the total surplus of water for a year there is still a big enough difference so that a good and sustainable water-compliant system is needed on peatland Sub PHU 3 Rangsang Island, especially in the Rangsang Island KHG in general in the future. Keywords: Deficit, Peat Hydrological Unit, Peat land, Surplus, Thornthwaite & Mather Water Balance

Abstract

Data availability for modeling usually become a problem because of incompleteness and imprecision data. The development of knowledge and the advancement of technology progress encourage the development of hydrological modeling by using remote sensing data. This research conducted rainfall-runoff modeling using remote sensing data in Rokan watershed, Riau Province. To utilize remote sensing data, a special software namely Integrated Flood Analysis System (IFAS) is used in this research. IFAS is a remote sensing program that was developed by a research institution of the Japanese public works called the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM). IFAS was used to model the rainfall-runoff in Rokan watershed with four types of different periods simulation and calibration. Rainfal-runoff period from 1 January 2003 until 31 December 2006, 1 January 2004 until 31 December 2006, 1 January 2005 until 31 December 2006 and 1 January 2006 until 31 December 2006 was used for this modeling and then was validated with period data of 2004 and 2005. The results become optimal after the calibration process period of two years and one year data. The two years period have the correlation (R) value 0,627, volume error (VE) 1,007%, and the coefficient of efficiency (CE) 0,615 and the one year period the correlation (R) value 0,663, volume error (VE) 3,30%, and the coefficient of efficiency (CE) 0,759.  Keywords: rainfall-runoff modeling, satellite data, IFAS, calibration, validation
