Abstract

Background: In 2016 Kopeta Health Center was ranked the 4th highest number of cough disease not pneumonia and pneumonia cases from 23 Puskesmas in Sikka District. Health education on pneumonia in this health center has often been conducted, but it seems that the results have not been effective in improving the knowledge of mothers. This is due to the fact that it is only prioritized for mothers who come as their children’s illness and information provision has not been improving the knowledge of mothers on child pneumonia prevention. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of booklets provision and buzz group methods to increase knowledge, attitudes and practices of mothers in the prevention of pneumonia in children.Method: This study employed a quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group. The sample of this study is the mothers who have children 0-5 years old, in Nangalimang and Kabor villages and 90 mothers were selected by using systematic random sampling technique.  Data was collected using face to face interview by trained enumerators guiding with close-ended questionnaire that has been validated. Data were then analyzed by Chi-Square test and Manova Post Hoc Tukey. Results: Pneumonia lectures followed by giving booklets and buzz group discussion were effective in increasing maternal knowledge and attitudes in the prevention of children pneumonia. Whereas, buzz group were more effective in improving the practice of mothers in the prevention of pneumonia than the provision of booklets. This is because the buzz method makes mothers more actively participate and creative in solving pneumonia problems by looking at other mothers' experiences. It is recommended that using buzz group lectures as an alternative method in efforts to health education for mothers, especially in the prevention of children pneumonia.

The variables included the volume of waste in each trash bin, the quality of trash bin distributed and the number of visitors before and after intervention. Measurements were conducted for 14 days. Results: The volume of waste was increased significantly after providing posters in the intervention sites compared to controls’. Likewise, the quality of trash bin distributed at tourist sites was also increased significantly in the intervention areas compared to controls. The number of visitors at four destinations was increased significantly after intervention because post-test was conducted at long vacation period. That would directly effect to waste volume in the trash bin at 4 tourist destinations. This study recommends to managers to put interesting poster or other instagramable media to promote healthy behaviour related to the cleanliness and beauty at tourist areas.

Structured questionnaires were used that have been validated in other subdistrict priorly. Data was analysed by using univariate, Chi-Square and multiple logistic regression for analysis. Results: The results show that 21% of parents have rejected their children to be immunized MR (Measles Rubella). Perceived susceptibility and severity variables have not significantly associated to parent’s rejection. However, perceived benefits and barriers have significantly influenced to the rejection. The biggest barrier in immunizing MR for their children was the parent’s believed that the immunization vaccine substances were not halal refers to Islamic rules. The intervention was carried out using educational media in the form of the “Aneminfo” android application. Changes in knowledge and attitudes between before and after the intervention were measured using a validated questionnaire and tested using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The results showed a significant increase in knowledge in the intervention group (p = 0.001), and there was a significant increase in attitude in the intervention group (p = 0.011) compared to the control group. The conclusion of this study is the Aneminfo android application can be an alternative media for the government and health workers in providing education about iron deficiency anemia to increase adolescent knowledge and prevent anemia from an early age.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents experience significant sexual and hormonal development, which may lead to engagement in premarital sexual practices. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with premarital sexual practices among adolescents in the 2007, 2012, and 2017 survey periods and to describe the trends and relevant variables identified in each period.Method: This longitudinal study utilized secondary data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) on adolescent reproductive health. Respondents included unmarried adolescents aged 15–24 years who had completed the IDHS questionnaire. The sample sizes were 16,412 (2007), 16,998 (2012), and 19,970 (2017). Data analysis was conducted descriptively, followed by statistical analysis using logistic regression with a 95% confidence interval (CI).Result: The proportion of adolescents engaging in premarital sexual practices decreased slightly but not significantly: 5.8% in 2007, 5.4% in 2012, and 5.3% in 2017. Factors consistently associated with premarital sexual practices across all survey periods included sex, age, education level, knowledge of contraceptives, high-risk dating behaviors, and peer influence. Socialization through media and parental involvement are recommended strategies to prevent or delay premarital sexual practices.

Abstract

Background: The family planning program (Keluarga Berencana or KB) is one of the Indonesian government’s efforts to suppress population growth. The program focuses on contraceptive usage. However, in practice, the level of continuity of contraceptive use are still low. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of sources of information and access to health facilities on the continuity of contraceptive use.Method: This quantitative study with a cross-sectional design had 1,195 respondents with an age range of <20 years to >35 years. Data were collected through structured interviews and questionnaires. Univariate data analysis was conducted with frequency distribution; bivariate data analysis utilized crosstabs, and the multivariate analysis used logistic regression. Results: The continuity of contraceptive use was 91.9% among respondents who received information about the family planning program, either orally, on mass media, or electronically, and it was 82.8% among respondents who accessed family planning services. This study found that factors that influence the continuity of contraceptive use were sources of electronic media information (OR = 0.6633; 95% CI = 0.4852 – 0.9067; p = 0.010) and access to family planning services (OR = 2.677; 95% CI = 1.652 – 4.337; p = 0.001). These findings suggest that the sources of information and access to health facilities affect the continuity of contraceptive use.
