Abstract

The Smoke-Free Area (Kawasan Tanpa Rokok/KTR) policy is a government initiative aimed at reducing smoking behavior and promoting public health in Indonesia. Schools, as essential educational institutions, play a strategic role in supporting the successful implementation of this policy through education and advocacy programs. This program is designed to empower the school community—including students, teachers, and educational staff—to actively participate in creating and maintaining smoke-free environments. Educational interventions provide comprehensive knowledge about the health risks of smoking, the benefits of a smoke-free environment, and the positive effects of KTR implementation on both health and academic performance. Meanwhile, advocacy activities encourage schools to collaborate with external stakeholders, such as local health offices, community organizations, and government agencies, to reinforce policy enforcement and sustainability. The program also emphasizes the development of leadership and peer-support initiatives among students to foster a culture of health-conscious behavior. Results from program implementation indicate increased awareness, improved attitudes toward smoke-free environments, and greater compliance with KTR regulations among the school community. This study highlights the importance of integrating education and advocacy strategies to achieve a holistic and sustainable impact. The findings provide practical implications for policymakers, school administrators, and public health practitioners in promoting healthier educational environments in line with national health objectives.
