Abstract

Background: Spasm is an informal, non-specific term often used to describe musculoskeletal pain. Pain is an uncomfortable and unpleasant feeling associated with tissue damage. Pain is also a subjective feeling that is felt. Spasm pain that often occurs is pain in the upper trapezius muscle area which is caused by work, stress and posture. Dry needling is a method that uses dry and sterile needles which is often used to help reduce pain in muscle trigger points. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of dry needling on reducing pain in patients with cases of upper trapezius spasm. Methods: The research design used was quasi experimental with a pre and post-test one group design research type with a total of 17 respondents who met the exclusion and inclusion criteria using a purposive sampling technique. Pain was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS) which was carried out before and after physiotherapy treatment in 1 group, namely; dry needling with 1 administration. Statistical tests use the Wilcoxon test. Results: When giving dry needling, the median value was pre 6 to post 2 with a P value = 0.00. Conclusion: it can be concluded that dry needling is effective in reducing upper trapezius spasm pain. Keywords: Dry Needling, Pain, Spasm

Abstract

Introduction: Osteoarthritis is one of the joint disorders that has decreased joint function, resulting in decreased functional ability in daily activities. Physiotherapy treatment to reduce complaints felt by giving ultrasound diathermy and open kinetic chain exercises. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ultrasound diathermy and open kinetic chain exercises in improving functional ability in patients with osteoarthritis genu. Methods: This study used pre-experimental methods in a one-group pretest-posttest design. Functional ability was measured using the knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS) scale before and after treatment, namely the administration of diathermic ultrasound and open kinetic chain exercises 2 times a week for 1 month, with a sample of 22 randomly selected respondents. Results: The paired sample t-test hypothesis showed a p-value = 0,000 (0,000<0,05). Conclusion: there is an effect of ultrasound diathermy and open kinetic chain exercise on improving functional ability in patients with osteoarthritis genu. Keywords: functional ability, open kinetic chain exercise, osteoarthritis genu, ultrasound diathermy

Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a disease that damages the knee joint due to aging and progressivity It affects two-thirds of humans over 65 years old. The physiotherapy treatment used is a combination of ultrasound and muscle energy technique with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and muscle energy technique The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the effectiveness of ultrasound diathermy and muscle energy technique with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and muscle energy technique on changes in functional abilities of patients with genu osteoarthritis. The design of this study was quasi-experimental with a pre test post test with a study population consisting of 30 knee pain respondents at rsud dr.iskak tulungagung in july-september 2023, who met the inclusion criteria of 30 respondents with purposive sampling technique. Functional ability of genu osteoarthritis patients was measured by the womac scale before and after physiotherapy treatment, namely; giving ultrasound and muscle energy technique 15 respondents and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and muscle energy technique 15 respondents every 2 times a week for 4 weeks.Using the Wilcoxon hypothesis test with the results of the median value of usd and met; pre value 65; post value 59; and P value 0.001, and median value of tens and met; pre value 61; post value 57; and P value 0.000. Shapiro-wilk comparison test sig value usd and met 0.271 > 0.05 means the data is normally distributed, sig value tens and met 0.802 > 0.05 means the data is normally distributed. Because the data is normally distributed, the statistical test to determine the treatment comparison, using the Independent Sample T Test p / sig value (2-tailed) 0.601> 0.05, conclusion: H0 accepted H1 rejected. So it can be concluded that there is no significant difference between the administration of usd and met with the administration of tens and met on changes in the functional abilities of patients with genu osteoarthritis.

Abstract

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is muscle discomfort that varies from mild tension to severe pain that can impair function. DOMS pain is caused by the accumulation of metabolic waste in the muscle, such as lactic acid, as well as extracellular fluid that irritates the sensory fiber endings. Physiotherapy modalities, such as Sports Massage and Ice Compress, can be applied to prevent and treat DOMS. This quasi-experimental study used a two group pre-post test design that compared the effect of sports massage and ice packs on changes in DOMS pain values. This research was conducted at the Yonzipur 9 Ujung Berung field, Bandung City, with a population of 24 rugby athletes PON XXI JABAR, sampling using the total sampling method which was divided into 2 groups, namely (1) sports massage and (2) ice compresses with each group totaling 12 respondents. The measuring instrument used to assess the DOMS pain scale is the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The results of the study based on the median of the sport massage group before and after with a value of 7.5 and 4; the ice pack group showed a median value of 5 and 3 (before and after). Based on the Mann-Whitney analysis hypothesis test, the p value = 0.269> 0.05. It can be concluded that there is no significant difference in the effectiveness of the two methods. These findings indicate that Sports Massage and Ice Compress have comparable effectiveness in the management of DOMS muscle pain in athletes after intensive physical activity.
