Abstract

Peptides from Sumbawa horse milk are active as antibacterial and antioxidant. Horse milk has a higher content of vitamin C than cow or goat's milk, and cream products that contain milk can overcome dry skin. The Gel is one of the topical dosage forms suitable for acne medications and oily skin types. This study aimed to determine the effect of variations in horse milk content formulated in gel preparations with carbomer 1% base as gelling agents on physical characteristics (organoleptic, viscosity, pH) and antibacterial activity in Propionibacterium acnes. In this study, gel preparations were made with six different formulas on horse milk content, namely FI (2.5%), FII (5%), and FIII (10%), FIV (15%), FV (20%), and FVI (25%) with 1% carbomer base on each formula and well method were used for the antibacterial test. From the organoleptic test, it was found that in all of the gel formula had soft textured, thick white color, and distinctive aroma like horse milk. The viscosity test showed that was no significant difference, but the pH test showed a significant difference for each formula. In this study showed that all of the gel formulae did not have an inhibitory zone, which means that at each level there was no evidence of antibacterial activity in the P. acnes. So, it could be concluded that all gel formula had good gel characteristics but there was no inhibitory activity against the P. acnes.

Abstract

Hand sanitizer gel is one of the alternative methods for hand hygiene when soap and water are not available. Binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia) is a natural herb that has phenolic, flavonoids, saponins, and the steroid-terpenoids compound, which is potentially used as the active ingredient in the hand sanitizer gel. The primary purpose of this research was to determine the antibacterial potential and physicochemical properties of a hand-sanitizer gel containing binahong leaves’ infusion against Staphylococcus aureus. The efficacy of this formulation was tested against a bacterial strain using the disc diffusion method and determined by measuring the inhibition zone of each preparation. The testing of physicochemical properties includes the organoleptic test, pH, viscosity, and gel spreadability. The physicochemical characteristics of the gel showed excellent properties for all formulas. The antibacterial test showed that hand sanitizer gel containing an infusion of binahong’s leaves has an inhibition zone (6.02 mm; 6.24 mm; 6.55 mm), almost close to a positive control (9.15 mm). In conclusion, the formulated hand sanitizer gel possesses the antibacterial potential to inhibit S. aureus.

Abstract

Content of flavonoids in Sansevieria trifasciata Prain. and curcumonoids in Curcuma Longa Linn. can inhibit the growth of the fungi Candida albicans in the wound. An innovative formulation was made that form a combination of antifungal extracts S. trifasciata and C. longa in the form of emulgel, which is easy to absorb and can moisturize the skin. The purpose is to determine the effect of antifungal activity of emulgel preparations using S. trifasciata extract with a concentration of 0%; 5%; and 10%, and C. longa 10% against C. albicans. S. trifasciata and C. longa extracts are formulated into emulgel in three formulas, F1 (C. longa 10%); F2 (S. trifasciata 5%; C. Longa 10%); and F3 (S. trifasciata 10%; C. Longa 10%). Antifungal activity was tested using the diffusion well method. The results of antifungal activity research showed inhibition zone diameter, inhibitory activity, and effectiveness. There were no significant differences in formula 1, formula 2, formula 3, but there were significant differences with positive controls. Variation the concentration of S. trifasciata 5% and 10% has no significant effect on the inhibitory zone of the C. albicans, but the three emulgel of S. trifasciata and C. Longa extract had antifungal activity on the growth of C. albicans.

Abstract

Transdermal drug delivery systems increase the effectiveness of a drug substance, and one of them is a microemulsion. Moringa oil has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis research on moringa oil formulated as microemulsions. A total of 5 English articles from the Scopus databases from 2012 to 2023 US sources were used in the bibliometrics analysis of Moringa oleifera seeds oil related to microemulsions. The bibliometrics analysis shows research trends, including the most used keywords depicted in visualizations using the VOSViewer application, article publishers, affiliations, and the author's country of origin. The most used keywords are microemulsions, microemulsion, Moringa oleifera, antioxidant activities, and antioxidants. The most publishers are Key Engineering Materials, the most affiliated are Chiang Mai University and Thamasat University, and most authors are from Thailand. The study of microemulsion formulations of Moringa seed oil has yet to be widely carried out but has been cited by other researchers.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a skin health problem. Citronella oil contains citronellal, geraniol, geranial, β-citronellol, and neral, which have antibacterial properties. Meanwhile, red ginger oil contains gingerol, which has anti-inflammatory properties. These two ingredients are suitable for treating acne vulgaris. The aim of this study are to develop microemulsion formulation combination of citronella and red ginger essential oil. In this experimental study, a microemulsion combination of citronella essential oil and red ginger essential oil was made using Tween 80 as a surfactant and Transcutol® as a co-surfactant, with variations of S-mix (surfactant:cosurfactant) of 3:3, 4:2, and 4.5:1.5 ratios. As an oil carrier, isopropyl myristate is used. The microemulsions are formulated using a titration method. The microemulsion was then tested for characteristics and stability. The results show that the most optimal microemulsion formula was obtained with an S-mix ratio of 4:2 with a globule size of 21.64 nm, a Polydispersion Index of 0.15, and a zeta potential of -3.82. Its pH and viscosity meet the required specifications and are stable.
