Abstract

Physical activity and mental health are very important in the community, especially during the adaptation to the new normal. This study figures for the physical activity and mental health of students of SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan during the new normal adaptation. This research is a descriptive quantitative study using a survey as data collection, the instrument used for data collection is using GPAQ to determine physical activity and GHQ-12 to determine mental health. The subjects were students of SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan with a sample of 300 students. Sample selection of examples using cluster random sampling. Data analysis using descriptive analysis. From the GPAQ analysis, there were 3 categories of physical activity. Male physical activity was dominated by moderate activity as many as 37 students or 48%, high physical activity as many as 32 students or 42%, low activity as many as 8 students or 10%, while women's physical activity was dominated by categories of high and moderate physical activity were 89 students or 40%, low physical activity was 45 students or 20%. Students of SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan spent an average of 230.30 minutes (3.84 hours) of sedentary activities per day. From an analysis of GHQ-12 results, an average of 12.86 were able to enter the usual pressure, the average male student was 10.04 under low pressure, along with an average female student of 13.83 under more pressure than usual. The conclusion is that the level of physical activity of SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan students have met WHO recommendations regarding physical activity for health. The mental health of SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan students is still under the usual pressure category.

Abstract

COVID-19 has changed many patterns of human life in various parts of the world, including social restrictions that have implications for the closure of schools and sports facilities. This study aims to identify physical activity and screen time among adolescents in Surabaya during the COVID-19 pandemic. A quantitative descriptive design using a survey method was used in this study. The research sample consisted of 246 teenagers in the city of Surabaya using a purposive random sampling technique. The data collection technique was carried out using an online questionnaire. This study revealed decreased physical activity and increased screen time, which is dominated by young women in Surabaya during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is needed the role of various parties from the government, health agencies, and parents to promote and help children to stay active and balance physical activity as well as the use of daily screen time in maintaining fitness, increasing body immunity and work productivity, preventing obesity and cardiovascular disease during COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Handball is a sport that involves repetitive movements (sprinting, shooting, passing, jumping) with short breaks and the athlete must be agile and have the appropriate body composition. This study looked at the relationship between dietary habits, nutritional status, and body composition with the agility of East Java Handball athletes. The cross-sectional study was conducted on 36 East Java Handball athletes consisting of 18 male athletes and 18 female athletes selected by purposive sampling with the age of 18-23 years. Independent Sample t-test and Pearson Product Moment were performed using SPSS 25. The results showed that in East Java women's Handball athletes there was a relationship between BMI and agility (p = 0.019) and men's Handball athletes there was no relationship between BMI and agility (p = 0.162). In East Java men's and women's Handball athletes, there is no relationship between percent body fat and agility (p = 0.221 and p = 0.077). In East Java men's and women's Handball athletes, there is no relationship between energy intake and agility (p = 0.681 and p = 0.879). The conclusion is that BMI correlates with athlete agility, while Percent Body Fat and energy intake do not correlate with athlete agility.
