Abstract

Arabic teachers have a negative attitude toward translanguaging in the process of learning Arabic. But in fact, they use other languages than Arabic in their teaching. This condition prompts to reveal translanguaging in Arabic language classes. The aim of this study was to explore the patterns of translanguaging in the process of learning Arabic and to reveal the reasons the teachers used it. Case study methods selected for data collection. The result is that translanguaging has a different pattern in each skill taught through input-process-output. On the fourth input process the skill remains using Arabic, whereas for learning nahwu the input process used Indonesian. The learning process of listening and writing skills remains with Arabic; reading skill, speaking skill and nahwu used Indonesia. They use translanguaging in the learning process to ensure students' understanding of content, build communication and to promote their metalinguistic awareness in the Arabic language learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the oral errors of Arabic department students which include types, classification, percentage and cause of errors. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive type. Data is taken from 16 of arabic department’s students in thirdsemester. The results of this study (1) There are three types of verbal errors, namely: phonological, vocabulary and structure, (2) Phonology errors include misreading of diacritical mark and sounds that have similarities and replacing verbs diacritical mark. Vocabulary errors include improper use and use of the Indonesian language. Structural errors include i'rob, alif and lam in the mudlof and the use of Indonesian language structures, (3) Percentage of errors includes 8% in phonolgical, 17% in vocabulary,  and 74% in structure, (4) The cause of error is due to: the influence of the mother tongue, the environment that does not support, the teacher who does not set an example and the interference in Arabic.

Abstract

This study aims to explore three main aspects: (1) describing the teaching of Arabic within Islamic studies subjects at Imam Al-Shafi’i Institute in Metro, Lampung, (2) identifying the factors influencing Arabic language education within Islamic studies subjects at the institute, and (3) assessing the contributions of this educational approach in improving students' speaking proficiency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method. Data collection techniques include field observations, interviews, and document analysis. The data are analyzed through processes of data collection, condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings of the study indicate that Arabic is taught as part of Islamic studies subjects, where the textbooks used are written in Arabic, instructors teach in Arabic, and language exercises are integrated into the curriculum. Several factors contribute to the improvement of students' speaking skills, including the linguistic competence of teachers, students' religious motivation, and institutional efforts to promote Arabic. Furthermore, the integration of Arabic language instruction within Islamic studies has played a significant role in enhancing students’ speaking proficiency, enabling them to speak fluently.
