Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of moisture and drying rate on Kepok and milk banana species, on the production process of crispy banana. An electric oven was used to examine the drying process at variable temperatures of 70 ºC, 80 ºC and 100 ºC with slices of 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm thickness. The results showed that the lowest moisture content and maximum drying rate obtained in Kepok was at a temperature of 100ºC, namely 69.167% and 0.045 grams/minute respectively. Meanwhile, for milk banana, the lowest moisture and the maximum drying rate was obtained at a temperature of 100 ºC, namely 68.167% and 0.042 grams/minute respectively. Furthermore, the organoleptic test results showed that kepok and milk banana experienced browning at 100 ºC, but did not at 70 ºC and 80 ºC with a thickness of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. In addition, the pore structure of both bananas expanded, while the structure of the bananas appeared bigger after drying.

Abstract

The establishment of subcritical fluid application for zingiberene extraction was studied by employing water as a green solvent. The zingiberene content was observed by using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrofotometry and regarding to the independent variable of temperature, extraction time, ginger-solvent ratio and aging time. By applying subcritical water, the critical value of zingiberene content obtained was 0.036%. This value was approached by the surface modeling of alpha for rotatability design which performed at 125 oC, 20 min of extraction time, 0.08 of ginger to solvent ratio and 9 min of aging time of extraction parameters. The surface modeling was validated by plotting the observed and predicted value of zingiberene content and evidenced by the value of R-square at 0.76.

Abstract

The process of making water emulsion in palm oil biodiesel is assisted by using two types of surfactants with different HLB values, namely Tween 80 and Span 80. This study aims to determine the characteristics of palm oil biodiesel emulsion made using a homogenizer with different HLB values, surfactant composition and water content in each sample. Density, viscosity, stability and microscopy tests were carried out to determine the characteristics of palm oil biodiesel emulsion. The results were obtained in the form of the highest density and viscosity values found in samples with high HLB values, surfactant composition and water content, while for stability test results were found in samples with low HLB values, surfactant composition and low water content. This shows that the difference in the value of HLB used will affect the amount of surfactant composition and moisture content in the sample composition and will affect the density, viscosity and stability of the palm oil biodiesel emulsion formed.

Abstract

Waste treatment in the industry produce sludge from the settling of solid material as a by product of the treatment process. The resulting sludge can’t be thrown away in large quantities because it can cause problems if there is still water content in it especially for industrial centers located around residential areas. So that filtration is carried out on the sludge from the Sedimentation Tub at the WWTP know in the area of Lamper, Semarang with the aim of reducing the volume of sludge by separating the water from the sludge before being discharged. The results of the analysis of the sludge filtration in the Settling Basin at WWTP obtained the value of cake resistance at a pressure of 75 kg / m2 of 4.42E + 11 m/kg, at a pressure of 90 kg/m2 of 5.62E + 11 m/kg and at a pressure of 104 kg/m2 of 6.74E + 11 m/kg. The results of the analysis on the resistance value of the filter medium obtained a value of 1.59E+12m-1 at a pressure of 75 kg/m2, 1.23E+12 m-1 at a pressure of 90 kg/m2 and 1.61E+12 m-1 at a pressure of 104 kg/m2. While in the analysis of water content, at a pressure of 75 kg/m2 obtained a value of 35.437%, at a pressure of 90 kg/m2 obtained a value of 35.024%, and at a pressure of 104 kg/m2 obtained a value of 34.024%. Efficiency The optimal pressure is 104 kg/m2.

Abstract

Cooking oil is high enough economic value. Cooking oil is generally used to cook, but its uses are also many other than for cooking needs, such as skin beauty, lubricants and others. In the condition which the longer time, the price of cooking oil is higher than before, making some society to think creative by recycling the oil which has been used cooking oil. According to the research, it is know that sugarcane waste have strong adsorption potency to water content, and free fatty acid content that found in used cooking oil. The variable of this research are the rinsing time and the amount of sugarcane waste used. The best condition reaches to 40 gr sugarcane waste with the decrease water content reach 0.0050%; the rinse of sugarcane waste in 2x24 hours with free fatty acid intensity adsorption up to 0.23%
