Abstract

Good quality children are closely related to optimal growth and development, especially in the three first years of life (toddler). The Covid-19 pandemic condition affects the level of parental visits to health facilities, thereby reducing the frequency of monitoring of child development by health workers. This condition increases the risk of delaying the discovery of a child's developmental disorder. Or community service activity is carried out to increase parental participation in screening and stimulating child development independently. The activity was carried out at the Delima Posyandu (Pos Pelayanan Terpadu) in the Puskesmas Gribig, area of Malang City in October 2021. The children involved in this activity were 12-36 months old, accompanied by parents or primary caregivers, and in healthy condition. Children suffering from acute illnesses such as fever, cough, diarrhea were not included in this activity. The activities consist of screening children's development with the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP) instrument and providing education with booklet media to parents on how to screen and stimulate development independently. Education was conducted on 24 parents individually and the results of developmental examinations showed that the majority of children had normal development or appropriate with their age, but more than a third of children had a doubt and delayed development. These results need to be a concern for health workers and “kader” to monitor the development of children in the area, especially those who have been detected had a doubt and delayed development

Abstract

Hospitalization is one of the events that affects the child’s development, one of which is caused by surgical procedures. Surgical procedures can cause anxiety (pre-surgery) and pain (post-surgery). Play therapy is a non-pharmacological method that can reduce children's pain and anxiety levels. This community service activity aims to implement play therapy as a distraction intervention so that it can reduce children's pain and anxiety. This activity was attended by 21 children who will and have undergone surgical procedures in the Rinjani room at the Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang hospital in January 2020. Play therapy activities are divided into two parts, single and associative play therapy where the form of games given was adjusted to the child's age group. The children's pain and anxiety level was measured before and after intervention using a visual analogue scale (VAS) and the data were analyzed using a paired t-test with a significance level of α <0.05. The results of the activity showed a significant difference in the level of pain in children before and after playing therapy where after playing therapy there was a decrease in the level of pain. Play therapy activities are effective to be applied as a non-pharmacological method for children who are undergoing surgical procedures.

Abstract

The Preceptorship method facilitates students to develop their cognitive, affective, and psychomotor abilities. Through Preceptorship, clinical instructors/preceptors become role models as tutors, leaders, supervisors, and mentors for students. Furthermore, nursing staff who meet the qualifications of a preceptor need Preceptorship training. The Pasuruan District Hospital is one of the network hospitals where nursing students practice the nursing profession, and there are only a few preceptors have attended Preceptorship training. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct Preceptorship training for preceptors. This activity aims to achieve preceptor competence with the Preceptorship method. The respondents were health care staff from Bangil Hospital, such as nurses, midwives, nutritionists, radiographers, medical recorders clerks, and physical therapists. The activity included training for three days from 19-21 November 2019 by providing material, demonstrating, and simulating the Preceptorship method in several rooms at Bangil Hospital. The data collection to measure the level of knowledge used pre-test and post-test questionnaires, while for skills using observation in the implementation of simulations directly to students in the hospital room. Forty-seven respondents participating in this training were male (32%) and female (68%). The results of the level of knowledge were pre-test mean 47.74 and post-test 88.85 with p-value paired t-test results 0.001. Observation results show that the preceptor can practice the Preceptorship method well with students. In conclusion, this training activity increases the knowledge and skills of Preceptorship clinical education methods for preceptors.
