Abstract

This research was conducted in December 2013 at Topang island waters, Meran-ti Islands Regency, Riau Province. The study observed the structure of planktonic di-atoms community as well as the nitrate and phosphate concentrations of its adjacentwater. Four blocks were established during the study which located on the west, east, north and southern part of the island. The study recorded 5 genera of centrales diatomsand 4 genera of penales diatoms. The nitrate concentration ranged from 0.118 – 0.287ppm, while phosphate concentration ranged from 0.049 – 0.142 ppm. The highestabundance of diatom was founded in the west site of Topang island (1582.25 ind/L)and the lowest was in southern site of Topang island (969.41 ind/L). Chaetoceros andNitzschia were appeared as with the highest abundance. The study concluded thatTopang waters were categorized as oligotrophic waters.

Abstract

Blood cockle interact with physical and chemical oceanography factors caused by the tides intensely, so it’s not possible to blood cockle to free from heavy metal pollution. As a organisms, blood cockles are relatively sedentary and filter feeder, so that the presence of pollutants in the marine waters will be absorbed by the biota. Research on the absorption of metal (Pb) with different salinity level and shell size was conducted in August 2017. It aims to determine the ability of Pb absorption in blood cockle based on salinity level and shell size differences. The method used is experimental method using Factorial Randomized Block Design which is designed from 2 factors namely salinity and shell size. The absorption of Pb by blood cockles were higher at 20 o/oo compared to 25 o/oo, as well as the uptake by 3 cm shells length of the cockles were higher than that by the cockles with 4.5 cm length.

Abstract

Survey of coral reefs ecosystem was conducted around Kasiak Island waters, about 3 mill in front of Pariaman City, West Sumatera Province in July 2011. The aimof this study is to find out the effect of earthquake in 30 September 2009 to the condi-tion of coral reefs in Kasiak Island, which was occurred in the waters around 5 km infront of Padang City. The earthquake had affected in the big scale to the buildings inPariaman and Padang City, and caused many people was killed. However, from theresults to the coral reef kondision araoun Kasiak Island showed that no effect of theearthquake to the coral reef ecosystem. Then, condition of coral reefs is very good in 3m dept of the island, however their condition is very different with the deeper waters(7 m dept).

Abstract

Heterotrophic bacteria are bacteria that are able to utilize organic matte as a source of carbon and energy. Heterotrophic bacteria live and have an important role in aquatic ecosystems. Pathogenic bacteria V. alginolyticus, A. hydrophila and Pseudomonas sp are pathogenic bacteria against fish. This study aims to isolate, identify, test the ability of the bacteria as antibacterial against pathogenic bacteria and determine the characteristics of heterotrophic bacteria using 16S rRNA sequences.this research was conducted from January to March 2019 whivh took place in the Mnagrove Area in the Marine Station Dumai, Riau Province. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it was obtained 8 pure bacterial isolates used to observe the morphology of bacterial colonies, biochemical tests and antagonism tests against pathogenic bacteria. Based on the results of the antagonism test, it was obtained the best 2 isolates for DNA analysis. The results of DNA analysis using PCR 16S rRNA method and BLAST analysis were Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain SH20, and Bacillus cereus strain NY180

Abstract

Abstract

Anadara granosa is one of the bivalves that are often found in public markets. This study aimed to study the relationship between length-weight and sex ratio of blood clams (A. granosa) in the coastal waters of West Rangsang. Sampling was carried out every month at three stations. Shells were collected from a 1 x 1 m2 plot on a quadratic transect. The relationship between length and weight was analyzed by regression analysis. The sex ratio between the number of female and male blood clams in each month of sampling was calculated and followed by the Chi square test to test the similarity. The results showed that the relationship between length and weight of A. granosa was positive allometric. The sex ratio of female and male blood clams in the waters of West Rangsang is not balanced. The number of male blood clams is more than the female.
