Abstract

The research was conducted in June 2013 in Rupat Starait waters with the aim to deter-mine the constituent materials in the sediment. The Eckman Grab was used to take samples and than the sediment was analyzed to determine the composition and content of organic mat-ter. The results showed that the composition of the sediment composed of lithogenous and biogenous. Lithogenous composition especially in waters and rocks dominating presence even-ly at each station. The highest composition found in a location close to the mainland and one of the areas that get the first time the influence of the tide, from the Strait of Malacca and the flow from Strait of Bengkalis. Lithogenous lowest percentage was found in areas close to the mangrove area whre the station had high composition of litter biogenous. While the station containing the lowest organic matter was the station near the strait of Malacca. Mean while the station closed masjid river and Dumai river containing organic matter was high due to the flow of the river carrying a high content of organic materials.

Abstract

Abstract

This research was conducted in February 2021 at the mouth of the Dumai River, Rupat Strait. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sediment supply from land on changes in bathymetry in the waters of the Rupat Strait based on the analysis of suspended sediment (SSC) and suspended solids (TSS) divided by the area of the study. The method used is a survey method. The results showed that as much as 26,94 tons/year of sediment entered the Rupat Strait and was distributed in the research area. Each part of the research area has a different bathymetric change value. This is presumably due to oceanographic factors in the waters of the Rupat Strait such as strong and weak river currents when entering the sea, the distance between the research area and the sediment supply source, human activities in each part of the study area, erosion along the river and abrasion at the river mouth. the presence of mangrove forests, dominant sediment types, sloping water topography, the cross-sectional width of the river as a sediment supplier, and suspended solids

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the rate of shoreline change and the level of abrasion in Bukit Batu District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province based on several physical variables in the coastal area. End Point Rate (EPR) is a method that can be used to calculate the rate of shoreline change by displaying transects according to their category (high abrasion, medium abrasion, low abrasion, stable, and accretion). From 1991-2021 there was an abrasion of ±139.71 meters equivalent to ±4.65 m/year which mostly occurred in Sukajadi Village and Pangkalan Jambi Village, while accretion of ±27.51 meters equivalent to ±1.58 m/year mostly occurred in Pakning Asal Village and Sejangat Village. Moderate abrasion is the predominant type. Sukajadi and Pangkalan Jambi are villages that have experienced high levels of abrasion. The area affected by abrasion has moderate and fast currents as well as coastal protection in the form of mangroves, most of which have been damaged and require repairs. Therefore, the main factors causing the abrasion are thought to be the lack of coastal protection and high-speed currents and waves flowing from the Malacca Strait.

Abstract

Pasumpahan Island is an area that is affected by currents, waves and sedimentation processes because it is directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean and the mouth of the Pisang River, this causes changes in the coastline in the form of abrasion and accretion on the island. This study aims to determine the effect of currents, waves, and sedimentation processes on the rate of change of the shoreline for 10 years (1991-2001) on Pasumpahan Island. This research was conducted in March 2022 on Pasumpahan Island, Padang City, West Sumatra Province. The method used is a survey method to obtain primary data including current speed, heightwaves and sediments. The study method used is a quantitative method with a multi-temporal satellite imagery approachusing the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) software with the End Point Rate (EPR) approach. The results of the analysis of current velocity values ranged from 0.21-0.28 m/s, wave heights ranged from 0.24-0.55 m, the average diameter of the sediment ranged from 0.83-1 Φ. The results of image data processing show that there has been a change in the shoreline in the form of low category abrasion (0.4 m/year), stable (1.42 m/year), and accretion (3.07 m/year) on Pasumpahan Island

Abstract

This research was conducted from February to March 2023 in Setan island, West Sumatra. This study aimed to determine the sediment accumulation rate and coral cover, as well as the correlation between sediment accumulation rate and coral cover. The survey method was used in this research. The sediment accumulation rate was measured using a sediment trap. At the same time, the coral cover was observed using the underwater photo transect (UPT) method with a transect length of 50 m. The total suspended solid was analyzed using the Gravimetric method. Observations were made at four sampling points at depths of 3 and 6 m. The sediment accumulation rate at a depth of 3 m ranged from 0.946315 to 1.534992 mg/cm²/day, while at a depth of 6 meters, it ranged from 1.357756 to 1.607786 mg/cm²/day. The percentage of live coral cover at a depth of 3 meters ranged from 3.40% to 31.36%, and at a depth of 6 m, it ranged from 0.33% to 30.50%. The total suspended solids values ranged from 23 to 96 mg/L. Regression analysis showed that the sediment accumulation rate negatively influenced the percentage of live coral cover

Abstract

One of the tourism areas in Dumai City is Medang Kampai District, which is a coastal area with an area of 373.00 km2.  Coastal areas are always used for human activities, one of which is coastal ecotourism which is a coastal tourism activity developed with a conservation approach and utilizing the characteristics of coastal resources as tourist destinations.  Medang Kampai District has many coastal ecotourism areas, including Pulai Humpback Beach, Pesona Alam Mundam Beach, Aulia Dumai Beach, Marina Puak Beach, Koneng Beach, Acacia Indah Guntung Beach and Legenda Beach.  The method used in this study is a survey method, which was set at 5 (five) research locations, namely Pesona Alam Mundam Beach (Station I), Aulia Dumai Beach (Station II), Koneng Beach (Station III), Acacia Indah Guntung Beach (Station IV), and Legenda Beach (Station V).  Based on the results of data processing using DSAS software, the results showed that the coast in the Medang Kampai sub-district was dominated by abrasion with an average abrasion rate of -2.96 m/year. The highest abrasion occurred at Acacia Indah Guntung Beach, followed by Pesona Alam Mundam Beach, Legenda Beach, Aulia Dumai Beach, and Koneng Beach.  The impact on the coastal ecotourism area due to abrasion is that several facilities and infrastructure have been damaged and there has been a reduction in the area of coastal ecotourism which is thought to cause a reduction in the capacity of visitors while at the same time directly impacting the economy of the local community whose livelihoods depend on coastal ecotourism

Abstract

This study was conducted from November 2017 in Rupat Strait, Riau Province. The analysis of model was done in Laboratorium of Physical Oceanography, Departement of Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and  Marine, University of Riau. The research aims to understand the wave and tidal current on high tide (spring tide condition) in Rupat Strait. The significant wave height is about 0.12-0.90 m/s. The current speed is about 0.18-0.78 m/s. The result of the study indicate that at spring tide condition, the tidal current from Malaka Strait flows up to Rupat Strait by northern and eastern part of Rupat Strait. This condition influences distribution of sediments in Rupat Strait the cause of the changes coastline.
