Abstract

The results of field observations and reports on the production and quality control of PT. Aneka Adhilogam Karya in 2021, show that the percentage of reject product decrease by 0.23% and company’s quality target decrease by 0.5% from the previous year, it can be concluded that every year the company try to reduce the percentage of reject products which are suspected to be caused by problems in the composition of the molding sand. It was found that the moisture content of the molding sand exceed the normal limit of 11,2%, so that the reject product was suspected to be caused by problems in the composition of the molding sand. Research on the correct composition of molding sand between the composition of sand and binder is needed to improve the quality of casting results. This research was carried out using an experimental method and then comparing the permeability of molding sand and casting results from two types of addition of binders, namely bentonite and molasses. Variations in the composition used are 1%, 3%, and 5%. The results of this study obtained a recommendation for the composition of molding sand that has the highest permeability and produces a product with the least quantity of defects is molding sand with the addition of 5% molasses binder, with a permeability value of 53.50±0.50 cm3/minute and a defect area of 11.97%.

Abstract

Analysis of the construction of a wall jib crane with a capacity of 1 ton was carried out by comparing the materials ASTM A36, ASTM A515, AISI 1008. The analysis was carried out using the finite element method with Fusion 360 software. From the results of the analysis, the material with the smallest deflection value is AISI 1008 of 9.98 mm with a von misses stress of 94,187 MPa, while in ASTM A36 and ASTM A515 the deflection value is 10.08 mm. The accumulated stresses and deflections that occur in each planned construction, both from manual calculations and simulations are declared safe, because the stress and deflection values that occur in the construction of the jib crane wall are below the allowable stress and deflection values. Based on the results of the design that has been carried out, the AISI 1008 material was chosen because it has a high safety ratio for wall jib crane construction.

Abstract

The growth of ship production in Indonesia encourages the shipping industry to utilize the composite material in order to be more efficient. Natural fiber-reinforced composite (NFRC) is one option that should be considered for use. NFRC is considered safer than fiberglass, which could trigger several health problems. Sugarcane and pineapples are one of the most common agricultural commodities yet their waste has not been treated optmimally. This research is going to analyse the effect of reinforcement powder size on its bending strength in pineapple leaf fiber – baggase reinforced sandwich composites as the alternative materials for partition wall in ship interior accommodation room. Sandwich composites were reviewed for their bending strength on specimens with and without adhesive agent using 40 mesh reinforcement powder size. The composite was made using the hand lay-up method with skin composition is 20%;80% and core composition is 25%:75%. The highest bending strength for sandwich composite is 49,23±1,04 MPa as a result of the experiment using adhesive agent. Meanwhile the lowest bending strength is 44,66±2,45 MPa as a result of sandwich without adhesive agent. Composite material with the highest bending strength value could be applied as the material for partition wall in the ship interior accommodation room according to SNI 01-4449-2006.

Abstract

Coconut coir fiber is a fiber derived from coconut shell waste which has economic value, is easy to process and easy to develop for the environmentally friendly composite industry, especially for motorcycle helmets. Carbon fiber is a synthetic fiber made of polyacrylonitrile, a study was conducted to see the response of variations in coconut fiber and carbon fiber layers on the impact and bending strength of composites used for motorcycle helmet applications. The use of synthetic carbon fiber in this composite provides several advantages including high tensile strength, relatively lighter weight, and low thermal expansion so that when combined with natural fibers, in this case coconut fiber, it will increase its structural strength. In this study, the bending strength of 50.765 MPa and impact strength of 0.038 J/mm2 were produced. The two highest values from each of these tests were obtained from the composite composition using 3 layers of carbon fiber and 2 layers of coconut fiber.

Abstract

One of the transportation supporting the economy in Indonesia is the ship. The government prioritizes the maritime sector in national development, which has a positive impact on the domestic shipping industry in the production of ships with various raw materials being developed. Fiberglass is a type of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) reinforcing fiber. In the manufacture of FRB (Fiber Reinforced Boat), fiberglass is an important part, its texture is light, and sharp, easily blown by the wind and can be inhaled into the breath which is not good for health. Indonesia is overgrown with coconut plants, parts of the coconut plant have many benefits, but coconut coir is less used, and is considered a waste that accumulates under coconut plants and is left to rot, therefore it is necessary to use coconut coir as an alternative to natural fiber from coconut coir. Synthetic fibers in the manufacture of composites. In this study, a study was conducted on the effect of composition on the tensile strength of coconut fiber reinforced composites, using a fiber delignification time of 45 minutes and the variation of fiber composition was 20%, 30% and 40% based on volume fraction. Coconut coir fiber is carried out by delignification process using NaOH solution with a concentration of 5% for 45 minutes. The composite with the highest tensile strength was 40% fiber composition, which was 60.96 ± 6.36 MPa. While the lowest tensile strength with a fiber composition of 20% is 31.88 ± 9.51 MPa.

Abstract

Pineapple leaf waste that is treated properly will provide added value. For example, the use of pineapple leaf fiber for the manufacture of composites. In addition, composites with natural fibers are lighter than synthetic fibers. Synthetic fibers also have several disadvantages, namely they can irritate the hands and can injure the lungs during the production process. In this study, research was conducted on the effect of orientation and composition on the tensile strength of pineapple leaf fiber reinforced composites. The arrangement of the fibers used is random, while the variations in fiber composition are 55%, 60% and 65% based on volume fraction. Pineapple leaf fiber used through the delignification process using 5% NaOH solution for 2 hours. The composite that produces the greatest tensile strength is a composite with one direction fiber orientation with a fiber composition of 55%, namely 7.18 ± 0.91 MPa. While the lowest tensile strength in random orientation composites with a fiber composition of 65% is 4.04 ± 1.02 MPa.

Abstract

Non-returnable glass bottles for carbonated drinks produced by the blow and blow process have defects on the walls of the glass bottles, so that the production process is still rejected. Machine 11 had the highest reject percentage in June 2019 reached 1.20% with an average monthly reject percentage of 0.74%, this could cause harm to the company. This research aims to determine the cause of thinness of carbonated bottle walls below specifications, and also to find an effort to reduce the cause of thinness of carbonated bottle walls under specifications. The method used is Six sigma DMAIC. At the measure stage gets 4.09 sigma from the DPMO calculation and control diagram the p-chart has a statistically uncontrolled. In analyzing stage using FTA, there were 5 factors found; blank mold was replaced in productin, final blow time was too fast, counter blow time was too fast, blank mold was often repaired, swab was not done correctly, while the effort quality control to do was manually re-inject the bottles which came out of the newly replaced mold, check panel periodically during the job change process, to check final blow timing and counter blow timing, check mold lifetime, swab the dirty/ dry mold and did regular checks.

Abstract

Sugarcane is a plant that is used as the main ingredient for making sugar. On the other hand, the utilization of bagasse is not optimal, where on average, bagasse is only used as fuel for the production process and for power generation. Bagasse fiber can be processed for the manufacture of composites. The benefits of bagasse fiber as a composite are quite good mechanical properties, noncorrosive, easy to obtain and environmentally friendly. In addition, when compared to synthetic fibers, composites with natural fibers are lighter. Synthetic fiber also has some drawbacks, namely it can cause skin irritation and injure the lungs during the production process. This time, a research was conducted on the effect of alkaline treatment on bagasse fiber. The variation of NaOH concentration is 0% and 3% for 1 hour. The composite was made using 5 mm short fibers arranged randomly and Chopp Matt fibers with a composition of 35%:65%. The composite with the highest tensile strength was obtained at the delignification process variation of 3% NaOH concentration with a tensile strength of 38.25±5.79 MPa. Then the lowest tensile strength occurred at 0% NaOH concentration variation with a tensile strength of 18.74±3.02 MPa.
