Abstract

The morphoedaphic index (MEI) has been used globally as a fish-yield estimator with widely divergent results. The fandamental concept of the MEI embraces standard thermodynamic theory, that of matter ( natrients) transported by energy within an open system. Of the three morphometric factors considered mean depth ,volume and area. The MEI is a reasonable compromise between unmanageable complexity and ecologic over simplification. Even so, its appropriate application presupposes both a fisheries and a limnological expertise, a rare disciplinary combination in those workers who might derive the greatest benefits from its use.In this paper, study on the determining of water productivity in artivicial lakes with morphoedaphic index analysis was showed.

Abstract

Corral reef in Indonesia is one of the ecosystem would be heavily damagedas same as a rain forest ecosystem. The main source of damage come fromhuman activities as land base pollution activity and un-wise fishing.Meanwhile, above problem didn’t solve clearly, The potencial threat hasbeen occured. Corral reef has bleach since climate change occur in the fewdecades. This article showed about what is corral reef bleacing, what is themain problem and how to conserve it.

Abstract

Environmental parameters of Hurun Bay estuary were monitored at the site of13.5 m3 floating net cages for Epinephelus cromileptes in July 2003. Averagedissolved oxygen inside cages was 3.68 – 6.76 ( average 5.35) mg/L with watertemperature 28.64 – 29.72 (29.09) oC. Salinity 32.69 – 33.0 (32.94) psu andturbidity 0.27 – 13.62 ( 1.15) NTU. Inflow rate of cages was 72 m3/hr withcurrent velocity 2.3 - 5.1 cm/s. Results showed that the functions of respirationrate for correlation between respiration of E. cromileptes and their weight wasy = 0.0065x + 0.1202 meanwhile the functions of optimum stocking density wasY = 1170.7 X -0.5648. On basis of dissolved oxygen budged, estimated optimum stocking density for lower limit was 128 ind/m3 for fish 50 g in average, 60 ind/m3 for fish 200 g and 21 ind/m3 for fish up to 1200 g.

Abstract

The respiration rate of Hump back grouper (Cromileptes altivalis) and TigerGrouper (Epinehelus fuscogutattus) were measured in the laboratory usingfish-chamber to determine how deferent among them and how these wereaffected by body weight. Results showed body weight influenced respirationrates and there are variation of studied respiration levels between Humpback grouper and Tiger Grouper. Respiration rate of Hump back and Tigergrouper were 534,2 mgO2/h and 421,4 mgO2/h respectively. The functionsfor correlation between respiration of Humpback grouper and their weightwas y = 0.0065x + 0.1202 while for Tiger grouper was y = 0.0038x + 0.6108.

Abstract

Seribu Island corral reef and reef fish are endangered by natural impact, various pressures from inland activities and destructive fishing practices. Cumulatively, these pressures appear to have significantly degraded corral reefs and its ecosystem over time. Meanwhile the corral reef ecosystem condition determines surroundings biodiversity condition that impact to local community. Therefore,it is necessary to serve and monitor corral reef ecosystem regularly. This article showed that corral reef covering at Karang Congkak Island was more lower abaout 27.41%. Degraded corral reefs occurred by several factors: increasing water temperature due to climate change, bathymetry and tide and destructive activity likely un-friendly fishing, corral mining and tourism activity.

Abstract

This study was carried out to verified the characteristics of water void in the conservation efforts in the coal mining area. The general sipnotic surveys were conducted in Surya and Sangatta void PT Kaltim prima Coal on-9 September, 2008. The monitoring data of water pH indicated that the spatial variation inpH in both void were small. The difference in pH between the surface and bottom of void water was less than 1.3.The other parameter such as dissolved oxygen, temperature and turbidity showed that both void have a good water as a normally waters. Stability in in the water quality especially in pH would causedby a smart management in acid mine drainage effort and highly pH buffer condition in mining area.

Abstract

CADS_TOOL is a software decision support tool for floating net cages management which constructs of two elemens, software and technic module. It has been developed by the copyright holders (the Australian Centre of International Agriculture Research (“ACIAR”), the Australian Institute of Marine Science (“AIMS”) and the Departemen Kelautan dan Perikanan (“DKP” : Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesia)as a tool. The objective of this software is to classify a site, to select the best site from several site alternatives, to calculate the sustainable holding density of a chosen site and to perform a basic economic appraisal of a farm at that site. CADS_TOOL includes 4 models for calculating holding or carrying capacity as sub-tabs under the Holding Capacity tab. For marine cages, the methods used are: Simplified MOM based on Stigebrandt et al., (2004), Tookwinas et al. (2004) and Hanafi et al. (2006), while Pulatsü et al. (2003) is used for freshwater cages in lakes/dams. In this paper will describe only a Tookwinas model.
