Abstract

Soil quality is the ability of the soil to function to maintain plant productivity, maintain and maintain water availability and support human activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the Soil Quality Index (SQI) and determine the management direction for improving soil quality on different land uses in the Maginti sub-district. A field study and laboratory analysis were carried out from March to May 2022. The method used in this study was a free survey method through field observations conducted on 2 types of land use, namely irrigated rice fields and dry land. In irrigated rice fields, 3 sample points were taken and 3 sample points in dry land, then composited into 1 sample in order to represent the total amount of each land use. In calculating the value of the soil quality index using the formula by Bajracharya (2006) which has been modified by Ghimire (2018). The soil quality index is analyzed using the indicators that best represent soil functions. The variables observed included Texture, pH, C-Organic, N-Total, P-Available and K-Available. Soil quality index values range from 0-1, the higher the index value, the better the quality. The results of the analysis of the selected soil functions (minimum data set/MDS) and the MDS scoring were summed to determine the value of the soil quality index (SQI). The conclusion of this research is that the criteria for medium soil quality are irrigated rice fields with SQI (0,56) and dry land with low criteria with SQI (0,36). To improve soil quality in irrigated paddy fields and dry lands is to increase organic matter through the application of organic fertilizers with the right dosage according to the type and level of soil fertility. Keywords: Soil Quality Index, Irrigated Rice Fields, Non-Irrigation, Soil Management, Physical Properties of Soil Chemistry.

Abstract

This research was carried out on a clove plantation in Puulemo Village, Lembo District, North Konawe Regency from June to July 2022. The purpose of this study was: to determine the nutrient status of different toposequences on community clove plantation in Puulemo Village, Lembo District, North Konawe Regency. The method used in the field is a survey method based on toposequence. Soil samples were taken by purposive sampling at three points, namely the top, middle and bottom of the slope with a depth of 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm. The samples were brought to the laboratory for analysis of the content of pH, Organic-C, nitrogen nutrients, phosphorus, soil potassium and soil CEC. The results showed that the assessment of some soil chemical properties in clove soil based on toposequences in Puulemo Village, Lembo District, North Konawe Regency, it can be stated that the total-N content in layers 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm were classified as moderate, available-K and available-P were classified as very low, pH values were classified as acidic, organic-C content was classified as very low and CEC content was classified as moderate at the top and bottom. in the middle and bottom at the 0-30 cm layer is classified as moderate while at the 30-60 cm layer it is classified as low. Keywords: Clove plant soil, nutrient status, toposekuen

Abstract

Beach sandy land has great potential to be used as an agricultural area, because it has a very large area and has not been utilized optimally, especially as a cultivation area. The aims of this study were: To determine the effect of rice husk ash and NPK fertilizer on changes in some of the chemical properties of coastal soils and the growth of cayenne pepper plants. To determine the interaction effect of rice husk ash and NPK fertilizer on changes in several chemical properties of coastal soils and the growth of cayenne pepper plants. This research was conducted at Field Laboratory II, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Halu Oleo. Analysis of soil samples was carried out at the Testing Laboratory of the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University. This research was conducted from August 2022 to October 2022. This research used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of A0 = 0 g polybag-1, A1 = 25 g polybag-1 or equivalent to 5 ton ha-1, A2 = 37, 5 g polybag-1 or the equivalent of 7.5 tons ha-1, B0 = 0 g polybag-1, B1 = 5 g polybag-1 or the equivalent of 1 ton ha-1, B2 = 7.5 g polybag-1 or equivalent to 1.5 tons ha-1. The variables observed included analysis of soil chemical properties and plant growth. The results showed that a mixture of rice husk ash and NPK fertilizer was able to increase the nutrient content of N, P, K, pH, C-Organic in coastal soil, characterized by an increase in plant height and number of leaves of red chili plants and the dose of organic fertilizer that had the best effect, namely 37.5g and 7.5g.Keywords: husk ash, C-organics, soil chemical, sand land, NPK

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to know the effect of application of rice husk biochar on changes in soil chemical properties and the growth of patchouli plants (Pogestemon cablin Benth). The research was conducted at Field Laboratory II, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University in October-December 2022. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisted of 6 treatments biochar, which are B0 = without biochar (control), B1 = 75 g polybag-1, B2 = Biochar 150 g polybag-1, B3 = 225 g polybag-1, B4 = 300 g polybag-1, B5 = 375 g polybag-1. The results showed that biochar increase soil pH from 5.76 to 6.57, CEC from 22.79 me 100 g-1 to 39.36 me 100 g-1, Available-P from 4.71 ppm to 13.04 ppm, Organic-C from 0.20% to 1.08%, and in constrast reduced Ni content from 776.10 ppm to 234.93 ppm, Fe from 6433.53 ppm to 3450.93 ppm. The application of rice husk charcoal affected significantly , the plant height, number of leaves and dry weight of plants. Biochar application up to 300 g polybag-1 (B4) is the most efficient dose to increase patchouli plant growth on nickel mine soil. Keywords: Biochar, ex- Nickel mining soil, Patchouli plant, soil chemical properties.

Abstract

Soil fertility is the ability of the soil to provide nutrients in balanced amounts for plant growth and production. Land cultivated for agriculture has varying levels of fertility. Proper soil management is an important factor in determining the growth and yield of cultivated plants. This study aims to describe the status of soil fertility and recommend the direction of fertilization for patchouli plants in Karya Mulya Village, West Kulisusu, North Buton. This research was conducted from December 2022 to February 2023. The method used in this study was a free survey method based on the location of the patchouli plantation. Sampling was carried out at a depth of 0-20 cm. The samples taken were analyzed in the laboratory to assess pH, organic C, available P, available K, CEC, and KB. The results of the study showed that the pH was classified as slightly acidic with a value of 6.1-6.3, low to moderate organic C with a value of 1.04-1.58%, low available P with a value of 5.98-7.59 ppm, low to moderate available K with a value of 0.29-0.42 me 100 g⁻¹, medium and high CEC with a value of 19.74-25.23 me 100 g⁻¹, low to moderate KB with a value of 38.68-43.61%. Based on the results of the assessment of soil chemical properties, it can be concluded that the level of soil fertility at the research location is low. Fertilization efforts are needed to increase the fertility of patchouli planting soil by paying attention to the right aspects in fertilization.
