Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that occurs when the body cannot produce enough insulin. Adherence is a major factor in determining the success of treatment. The use of pillboxes is a common method of reminding patients of their medication schedule. The problems found in the community are not compliant in taking drugs, especially type 2 DM patients. These factors are known to hinder the success of achieving optimal DM treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using a pill box on medication adherence in type 2 DM patients using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) questionnaire. This study uses an experimental method with a cross sectional study, the sampling technique used is the quota sampling technique. Data was collected by filling out a questionnaire using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The population used was adult patients with DM who were outpatients at Sungai Raya Dalam Public Health Center. The data collection process is carried out through visits to the patient's home (home visit). Data analysis in this study used the SPSS application. The results of the measurement of the highest level of compliance were obedient (24%) and a significant value was obtained from the Paired Sample t-Test test, which was 0.000 (0.05) which showed that the pill box could improve patient compliance in taking medication. The pill box makes it easier for patients to set the time to take medicine.
