Abstract

The symbols used by floating market traders are different from those used by market traders in general, such as the use of pantun, tanggui, and kakamban. This research aims to examine the meaning behind the symbols used by Lok Baintan floating market traders and their function in building social relations with visitors. This research uses social relations theory and symbolic interactionism theory. This research uses a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis. The research informants were traders and visitors of Lok Baintan floating market. Data were collected through observation, interviews and documentation, and analysed using two-stage meaning of signs, namely denotation and connotation (Roland Barthes' semiotic theory). The results showed that traders in Lok Baintan village are divided into two, namely home-based traders and floating market traders. There are symbols used by floating market traders to build social relations with visitors, namely using cold pupur, tanggui, colourful jukung, kakamban, negligee and brightly coloured clothes, tapih, baturai pantun and contracts in buying and selling. The denotation or original meaning of the use of cold pupur, tanggui, colourful jukung, kakamban, negligee and brightly coloured clothes, tapih, baturai pantun and buying and selling contracts was found. The connotation meaning is the use of cold pupur, tanggui, colourful jukung, kakamban, negligee and brightly coloured clothes, tapih, baturai pantun and buying and selling contracts. The myth is that the use of cold pupur is considered an attention-getter in order to quickly find a mate. Mutual interaction at the Lok Baintan Floating Market is a form of Social Relation that runs well. This research is able to analyse the meaning of two stages of signs regarding the interactions that occur in the Floating Market.

Abstract

Child marriage and divorce are phenomena that occur in many communities in Simpang Empat Sungai Baru Village. This research aims to examine what factors make children choose to marry and eventually divorce. This research uses qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data collection used observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses techniques from Miles and Huberman, namely the data reduction stage, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. This research shows that the factors that make children choose to marry are due to pregnancy outside of marriage, immature mindset, economy, and love traps. The tendency of early married couples' households not to last long is due to an immature mindset. The decision to divorce is driven by several factors, such as infidelity, family interference, domestic violence, and exhausted love. AGIL theory states that there are four functions in society so that community life runs stably, namely Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, Latency. Child marriage households in Simpang Empat Sungai Baru Village cannot fulfil the components, only Adaptation because they can adjust the environment. Goal Attainment, Integration, and Latency are not fulfilled because they cannot maintain the marriage and then divorce and also lose trust. Based on the negative impact caused by anum marriage, it is better if the case of anum marriage gets more handling from related parties so that similar cases do not recur.

Abstract

The existence of public perception about the news of the nickname “widow village” in Banjarbaru City, apparently caused pros and cons in the community. This research aims to find out the social construction in online media towards “widow village”. The type of research is descriptive qualitative using a constructivism paradigm approach. Data collection used observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis used Robert N. Entman's framing analysis model. The theories used are social construction of mass media and critical discourse analysis. The results of this study show that in the news search column delivered by online media such as Tribunnews.com, there is a regular distribution of news, varied titles and erratic release dates. After further investigation, there are only two news contents that are slightly different in the Tribunnews.com media. Meanwhile, the results of fieldwork in the dialectical process of social construction are shown in three simultaneous processes, namely internalization, objectivation, and externalization. Internalization shows how the outside community reflects the “widow village” from interactions and actions. Objectivation shows how people begin to understand what is constructed. Externalization shows how people show their views or attitudes when they have been constructed on the news of “widow village” at some time later. The conclusion that can be drawn is that some of the elements highlighted from the media's perspective are considered not only gender bias but also morality issues, such as one of the widowed female informants who is still angry and difficult to return to talking about the topic. It is important, as much as possible, to sort out which news is good and true with false or lies, don't just focus on images and news content and easily demean fellow beings, whether women or men.

Abstract

Women today must carry out their duties as housewives and must also work to help the family economy. This study aims to analyze the causes of the dual role of women in Anjir Serapat Village, and to determine the position of women who work in their families. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of field research. The research was conducted on female laborers at PT Kayu Lima Sejahtera in Anjir Serapat Tengah Village, East Kapuas District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that women work as laborers to help meet household needs, which has an impact on financial sufficiency and helps create household harmony. However, this does not always have a positive impact, but also has a negative impact on women because they have to feel exhausted due to having to do household chores. Family time is also reduced, which makes their children more independent and able to understand their parents' work, regardless of their young age. This research shows that the existing social construction in society about the role of a good wife only around the domestic can be broken. In the Anjir Serapat Village community, it is women who hold a more dominant public role.

Abstract

Historically, jukung has an important role for the Kuin Kacil community, and women who are commonly called acil are more dominant in using jukung than men. This study aims to describe the activities of the Kuin Kacil community who use jukung, and analyze the role of women in the preservation of jukung. This research uses a qualitative method. The research was conducted in Kuin Kacil, Mantuil Village, Banjarmasin City, from May 2022 to November 2022. Data collection techniques used observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that women in Kuin Kacil predominantly use jukung as a means of transportation, so the role of women in preserving jukung is very important. Jukung is considered more practical and in accordance with the characteristics of women who are more feminist. In addition, other transportation is considered less feasible to use in Kuin Kacil due to narrow road access. The existence of women who use jukung as a means of transportation is one of the reciprocal relationships to the existence of the jukung itself as a means of transportation. However, the existence of jukung as a means of transportation has the potential to be abandoned as the times develop. The younger generation prefers to use land transportation, such as two-wheeled vehicles. The younger generation considers jukung as an outdated and less modern (fashionable) means of transportation to be used in the present. Jukung preservation efforts are important as a cultural heritage of river communities, and as a means of transportation that is friendly to women and nature.
