Abstract

Motivation is an important factor in elementary school students’ learning outcomes and academic achievement. This qualitative study examined the strategies used by teachers at Sekolah Indonesia Johor Bahru and SDN 5 Sindangkasih Purwakarta. The research aims to explore and compare these strategies, seeking insight into effective practices that can develop a conducive learning environment. The research methods used include interviews, observation, documentation study and triangulation. Data analysis shows that teachers' strategies to increase students' motivation to learn are highly planned and depend on individual teachers' skills. These strategies include interactive teaching methods and creating a supportive classroom atmosphere. The findings show that proper implementation of teachers' strategies can increase students' passion, curiosity, confidence, concentration and ability to be independent in doing tasks. The comparison between Sekolah Indonesia Johor and SDN 5 Sindangkasih Purwakarta is in the different resources and backgrounds of the students. However, there are also many similarities in the commitment to design meaningful and effective learning to increase students' motivation to learn. This research illustrates that effective teacher strategies can increase students' learning motivation.   Keywords: teacher skills, qualitative, student learning motivation, teacher strategy

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the essential competencies that students need to master in science education. The low level of critical thinking skills among elementary school students is the primary reason for conducting this research. This study aims to: 1) Determine the effect of implementing the Discovery Learning model supported by PhET Simulation media in enhancing the critical thinking skills of elementary school students; 2) Assess whether the improvement in critical thinking skills of students using the Discovery Learning model with PhET Simulation media is better compared to those receiving scientific learning. The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group, involving 54 students on the topic of electrical energy. The instrument used to collect data before and after the learning process is a critical thinking skills test. The results of the study indicate that: 1) There is an effect of learning using the Discovery Learning model supported by PhET Simulation media on students' critical thinking skills; 2) The improvement in critical thinking skills of students who participated in the Discovery Learning model is better than that of students who received scientific learning. Since this research focuses on critical thinking skills in the aspect of competence, it is recommended for future studies to explore critical thinking skills in other aspects, such as knowledge. Abstract

Improving learning outcomes is important to measure student progress during the learning process. This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of elementary school students. This study aims to determine whether the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model assisted by Educaplay can improve students' cognitive learning outcomes compared to the STAD cooperative learning model, as well as the effect of the TGT cooperative learning model on student learning outcomes. A total of 60 research participants participated in the quasi-experimental research using a non-equivalent pretest posttest control group design. Documentation and learning outcomes assessment were used as research instruments. Data analysis showed that the experimental class using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model assisted by Educaplay experienced an N-Gain increase of 63%, compared to 50% for the control class using the STAD cooperative learning model. The results showed that students who received teaching using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) type cooperative learning model assisted by Educaplay had better science learning outcomes compared to students who used the STAD type cooperative learning model, and the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) type cooperative learning model assisted by Educaplay had a positive effect on student learning outcomes by 25.1%.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are an important competency of the 21st century, but are still low in science learning in elementary schools. One of the efforts to improve is through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media which encourages active student involvement. This study aims to: (1) Determine the increase in students' critical thinking skills in science in elementary schools who receive the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media is better than students who receive the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by PowerPoint, and (2) Determine the effect of increasing students' critical thinking skills in science in elementary schools through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects were students of grades IVA and IVB of SDN Purwamekar on the material of plant body parts. Data collection techniques used pretest, posttest, and documentation. The results of the study showed: (1) The increase in students' critical thinking skills with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality was higher, which was 77.31%, and (2) There was an effect of increasing students' critical thinking skills in science learning in elementary schools through the application of the PBL model assisted by Augmented Reality media of 54.70%. Thus, the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality is effective in improving the critical thinking skills of elementary school students in science.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with PhET interactive simulations on the enhancement of elementary students' mathematical understanding. The persistent issue of students’ low conceptual comprehension in mathematics often stems from teacher-centered instruction and limited student engagement. The research is framed around two primary objectives: (1) to examine the effect of the PBL model supported by PhET media on students’ mathematical understanding, and (2) to compare the improvement in mathematical comprehension between students exposed to the PBL model with PhET and those taught through conventional instructional approaches. This research adopts a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The participants were fourth-grade students at SDN 2 Sindangkasih, Purwakarta Regency. Data were collected using a mathematical understanding test and analyzed using an independent sample t-test to determine statistical significance. The findings reveal a significant impact of the PBL model assisted by PhET media on students’ mathematical understanding. These results suggest that problem-based instruction, when supported by interactive digital media, can foster deeper and more meaningful mathematical comprehension among elementary learners.
