Abstract

A wet synthesis Cu nanowire using CuNO3 as a precursor and hydrazine as a reduction agent and ethylene diamine as a polymer capping agent in excessive sodium hydroxide solution 15 M NaOH has been done. The study was done by varying the volume of hydrazine 0.15, 0.25 and 0.75 mL and ethylenediamine (EDA) (0.5, 1.5 and 0.25 mL) in a total volume of 100 mL, to investigate the roles of these two agents in forming the nanowire and was done at 60 °C at 60 RPM stirring speed. The study revealed that the wet synthesis could be used to produce nanowires in the length of micrometers with a diameter of about hundred nanometers. The best CuNW was obtained at volume EDA 1.5 mL at hydrazine volume 0.15 mL with length to diameter ratio was 120 ± 30. The roles of both hydrazine and the EDA in the process of making nanowires and nanoparticles were also discussed.

Abstract

Cu nanowires (CuNWs) were synthesized in an aqueous solution at low temperature using ethylenediamine (EDA) as a capping agent and hydrazine as a reducing agent. This study investigated the growth of mechanism CuNWs and fabricated the transparent conducting electrode. For the growth mechanism of CuNWs, the study was conducted with an optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The performance of the transparent conducting electrode was studied with UV-Vis spectrometer and IV meters. CuNWs growth from Cu nanoparticles (CuNPs) in the solution. Transparent conducting electrode gave a sheet resistance of 48.8 Ohm/sq and the transmittance of 52.63%. The understanding of the growing mechanism of Cu nanowires is important for the development of CuNWs for alternative application as a transparent conducting electrode.

Abstract

The fabrication of transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) is dominated by indium tin oxide (ITO). Some efforts are being made to find alternative materials as a substitute for ITO. Cu nanowire (CuNWs) is an equivalent candidate as a replacement for ITO but has a weakness that is easily oxidized. In this contribution, we report an increase in the performance of CuNWs, which can reduce the effect of oxidation. In this study, we provide a coating of CuNWs using PVP, PVA, and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The morphology, formation structure, and conductivity of CuNWs have been investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and IV meter. The average length and diameter of the CuNWs were 5.5 μm and 120 nm, respectively. The transparent conducting has a stable conductivity after coating with PVP, PVA and AgNPs. The application of transparent conducting electrodes are sensors, electronic devices, solar cells, and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).
