Abstract

Inventory management plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth production processes and fulfilling customer orders in manufacturing companies. However, discrepancies between physical stock and system records frequently occur, leading to inefficiencies and increased operational costs. This research was conducted at PT. Sumi Asih to identify the primary causes of stock discrepancies and provide improvement recommendations using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) method. The study analyzed stock records from August 2023 to January 2024 using tools such as Pareto diagrams, Fishbone diagrams, and the 5S method. The findings revealed that 82% of stock discrepancies were due to ongoing in/out transactions, 12% resulted from defective goods undergoing remelting, and 6% were due to unrecorded items. The proposed improvements include implementing the 5S method to enhance warehouse organization and stricter monitoring of stock recording. These measures are expected to reduce stock discrepancies by up to 50% and improve warehouse operational efficiency.

Abstract

PT XYZ is one of the companies engaged in manufacturing automotive components. In the production process in the final line of the assy, there are quite a lot of No Good (NG) products every month. The types of not good (NG) products discussed in this study are talc depth, insulator height, u-ring depth, and caulking height. The dominant percentage of No Good is 45.88% of the total No Good in the October-December 2023 period. This study aims to find out what types of No Good often occur in products, factors that cause No Good in products, provide No Good product repair solutions, and repair results using Plan Do Check Action (PDCA) and 5W+1H methods. By the PDCA method, it is hoped that quality improvement will continue, so that the quality will improve. The results of the analysis and improvement showed that there was a decrease in the percentage of No Good to 1.89% after improvements in the final line assy for the January-March 2024 period.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between work posture, assessed using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method, and the work productivity level of employees in the office warehouse division of a livestock feed company. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 14 respondents. Data were collected through posture observations using the RULA worksheet and a productivity questionnaire covering aspects of performance and personality. The evaluation results showed that all employees had RULA scores ranging from 3 to 4, indicating a moderate ergonomic risk level. Meanwhile, work productivity scores varied from 57.4 to 78.6. Statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test produced a significance value of 0.730, indicating no statistically significant relationship between RULA scores and employee productivity. Nevertheless, ergonomic improvements are still recommended to prevent musculoskeletal disorders and to enhance long-term work comfort and efficiency.

Abstract

The design of production facilities plays an important role in the performance of the company because a poor layout can cause inefficient material flow and increase production costs. This research aims to optimize the factory layout to minimize material movement and material handling costs. The methods used include calculating distances and costs in the initial layout, creating an Activity Relationship Chart (ARC), and applying the 5S and Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) methods. The results show that the proposed layout is more efficient, with a reduction in displacement distance from 79.00 meters to 63.79 meters and material handling cost savings from Rp13,108,331.60 to Rp10,709,617.21 per month. As for the SLP method, the results show that the proposed layout is more efficient, with a reduction in displacement distance from 79.00 meters to 62.79 meters and material handling cost savings from Rp 13,108,331.60 to Rp 10,072,708.75 per month.

Abstract

PT. XYZ is a medical device manufacturing company that produces components for syringes, one of which is the Barrel product. The Barrel product has high demand, so effective quality control is essential to reduce the defect rate. This study aims to analyze ways to reduce defects in the Barrel product using the Kaizen and Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) methods. In the planning phase (Plan), the dominant types of defects were identified using a Pareto diagram, which revealed three main defect types, with shortmold as the primary focus. The causes of this defect were analyzed using a Fishbone diagram. In the Do phase, corrective actions were implemented by setting objectives and goals for improvement, as well as identifying defective products with the help of the 5W+1H tool. The Check phase involved further inspection using a Check Sheet to analyze data showing a reduction in defects between October 2023 and January 2024. In the Action phase, quality control was implemented by monitoring employee performance and product quality, as well as evaluating the results of the improvements. The results of the study indicate a significant reduction in the number of defective products following the implementation of corrective actions.
