Abstract

Smoking is a serious global public health issue, especially in low-income countries, including Indonesia, where the prevalence of smoking among adolescents has reached alarming levels. This study aims to analyze the relationship between parenting patterns, parental smoking behavior, and parental communication on adolescent smoking behavior. Using an analytical observational method and a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 60 male students at a high school in Aceh. The results indicate that democratic parenting styles, parental smoking behavior, and effective communication are significantly related to the risk of smoking among adolescents. Adolescents raised in family environments with open communication and positive parenting styles have a lower risk of smoking. These findings underscore the importance of parental roles in preventing smoking behavior among adolescents and recommend interventions focusing on raising parental awareness of the impact of their behavior on their children.

Abstract

Elderly care for patients with chronic illnesses has become a critical issue in Indonesia, given the high prevalence of chronic conditions among the elderly, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Positive nurse attitudes and family support play essential roles in enhancing the quality of care and well-being of elderly patients. This study analyzes the relationship between nurse attitudes and family support in the quality of care provided to elderly patients with chronic illnesses. The research employed a quantitative approach with an observational cross-sectional design, involving 50 elderly participants selected through purposive sampling. The results indicate that patients receiving care from nurses with positive attitudes and strong family support tend to experience a higher quality of care (p < 0.05). Empathetic nurse attitudes and consistent family support improve patient comfort, adherence to treatment, and clinical outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of synergy between positive nurse attitudes and family support in optimizing elderly care and reducing the potential for loneliness and mental health decline among patients.

Abstract

Personal hygiene behavior during menstruation affects adolescent reproductive health, including the risk of infection and cervical cancer. Family support, such as parents, especially mothers, plays a vital role in shaping adolescent personal hygiene behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and personal hygiene behavior during menstruation in junior high school adolescents in Banda Aceh City. This type of research is quantitative with a descriptive correlative method using a cross-sectional study design. The population of junior high school female adolescents in Banda Aceh City is 5,562 people. The sampling technique used the multistage random sampling method with a sample size of 249 female students. Data was collected by self-reporting using a questionnaire on family support and personal hygiene behavior during menstruation. Data were analyzed using chi-square. The results of the chi-square statistical test with a p-value of 0.039 showed a relationship between family support and personal hygiene behavior during menstruation in junior high school adolescents in Banda Aceh City.
