Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine and analyze articles concerning the strategies used in developing speaking skills published in between 2018 to 2023. This research employs library research methodology, which involves using library sources to gather and analyze data. The research results shows that the strategies used in developing speaking skills are Communication Strategies, Task-Based Approaches, Role-Play, and Technology-Enhanced Approaches and the most frequently used strategies are Role-Play, and Technology-Enhanced Approaches. To implement the two most frequent strategies used, educators need a careful planning and consideration. They should introduce concepts, select relevant content, and provide clear instructions. Technology can enhance authenticity and engagement in speaking activities by utilizing tools like YouTube, digital storytelling, or educational comics. In conclusion, this research provides valuable insights into the strategies employed to develop speaking skills.

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether or not the implementation of Line Webtoon can enhance the reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. The population of this research is the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Palu. The sample was VIII A as the experimental class and VIII B as the control class. The research applied the quantitative method. The instrument of the data collection was pre-test and post-test. Those data were analyzed statistically. The pre-test was at a low level, and the post-test was at a high level. The pre-test was low because the students had difficulties in reading comprehension. However, the post-test that at a high level because of the media can enhance students’ reading comprehension. The results of the data analysis show that the t-counted was greater than the t-table. In conclusion, using line webtoon can enhance students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to prove that the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy is effective in improving reading comprehension of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga and to find out whether there was a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class in reading comprehension. The design of this research was quasi-experimental. The samples of this research consisted of 45 students who were selected by using cluster random sampling. The research instrument used to collect the data was a multiple-choice test which were divided into pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using statistical analysis. The result of the data analysis shows that there was a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension after the treatment by applying the QAR strategy. It indicated the mean score of both test results where the mean score of the experimental class significantly improved from 38.75 to 63.75. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control class is from 30.00 to 40.00. Based on the result of the data analysis, the researcher found that the value of t-counted is 7.36. By applying a degree of freedom (df) 43 (24 + 21 – 2) and 0.05 level of significance, the researchers found that the value of the t-table is 1.68. It means that the hypothesis is accepted because the value of t-counted (7.36) is higher than the t-table (1.68). To conclude, the QAR strategy is effective in improving reading comprehension of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Mepanga.

Abstract

The Songs can provide attractive and instructional media in learning activities. Song has been designed to motivate students to participate the English teaching and learning. The study aims to identify the students’ perception on using songs in teaching English. Interviews are conducted as the research instruments to get students’ perceptions towards English songs in teaching English. The interviews show that most students feel English songs are very helpful for them in improving their Speaking skill. They also feel that the English song they listen to have the power to encourage students' motivation to learn the. Correct pronunciation and learn English more deeply. In addition, the beauty of the tone and rhythm of the music also makes students feel happy and relaxed. They also feel that by listening to the lyrics of English song carefully, they can easily get information about the correct pronunciation from native speakers. It makes them enthusiastic and increases their interest in learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to discover students’ perception of using YouTube as a Media for Learning and factors that can contribute to the use of YouTube as a learning media. Qualitative descriptive are used. The subjects of this research were 30 students of class X 7. Questionnaires and interviews were applied to collect data. The questionnaire consists of 30 questions; interviews were conducted as supporting data. Based on data analysis, data from the questionnaire shows that most students agree with the use of YouTube as a medium for learning English. Learning to use YouTube also gives students new experiences in learning and can overcome boredom in monotonous learning. The interview results also showed that students were happy and gained new experiences by using YouTube as a learning medium. The conclusion can be drawn that students agree that using YouTube can overcome boredom in class, increase interest in learning and gain new experiences

Abstract

This research was conducted at grade eighth students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu in the teaching and learning process. This research aims to improve students' reading comprehension by using the Story Pyramid Strategy. The population in this research was grade eighth students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu. This research employs purposive sampling to select the sample. This research applies a quasi-experimental research design non-equivalent control group design, which consists of two groups: experimental and control group. The description of the data collected through the pre-test and post-test. The students’ scores after presenting the material using Story Pyramid Strategy in reading comprehension were better than before the treatment was given to the student . This strategy can be a learning media applied by teachers in the teaching and learning process as an effective strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension because the use of Story Pyramid Strategy makes it easier for students to understand the content of the story. The result of the data analysis is that t-count was higher than t-table. From these results, the researcher found there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test result. This means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This is proven by the improvement of students reading comprehension after being given treatment using story pyramid strategy.

Abstract

This research is aimed to identify students’ problems of listening comprehension skill. The researcher took the third semester students as the respondents in this research. The research design used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. 15 students out of 294 students were selected as the respondents. They were given questionnaire to collect the data for this qualitative research. Questionnaire result was analyzed based on thematic analysis procedures. Questionnaire was done by given twenty assessment prepared. Based on the result of this research, the students had three major problems in learning listening comprehension, first length and speed and variety accent, second lack of vocabulary and the last is lack of concentration. From the results of these findings, the researcher suggests two strategies. First for the students, the students are expected to be able to practice and get used to hearing various accents and different speed variations. Regular vocabulary practice looking for relevant learning resources can improve students’ vocabulary and the last is prioritizing listening, active involvement, and applying concentration techniques can help students overcome concentration disorders and improve students’ listening comprehension. Second, for the lecturer by knowing students’ problems learning listening comprehension, the lecturer can effectively support students in improving their listening skills and achieve better results for students to learning listening comprehension skills.
