Abstract

The increase in Covid-19 cases has opened a new cluster of schoolchildren. Most cases are found in school-aged children, elementary. The state of the pandemic has prevented health workers from carrying out their duties to provide health education about preventing Covid-19 cases in schools. This community service aims to form health cadres in schools who invite school communities to carry out health protocols and live healthy lives to avoid the transmission of Covid-19. Peer learning is a quick way to change behaviour in schools. The community engagement method was to provide training to children in terms of knowledge and skills about Covid-19, its effects, and prevention efforts through washing hands, wearing masks, and keeping a distance. The activity was carried out at SD Citra Almadina and SDN 06 Pasar Ambacang, Padang. The material was given alternately by lecturers and students for two days through lecture methods, demonstrations from resource persons and students, and group exercises to do psychosocial therapy, "finger therapy," to avoid stress from online teaching. The training resulted in 10 health cadres for school children, and certificates were given. Knowledge of school health cadres increased by an average of 12 points. The training and legalization that schools provide to children increase their motivation to remind the school community to always maintain health protocols by washing hands with soap, using face masks, keeping their distance, eating healthy food, and vaccinating.

Abstract

The phenomenon of bullying that often occurs in elementary school-age children is a severe problem that has an impact both physically and psychologically. Bullying in elementary school must be prevented immediately so that it does not become a habit that will be carried into adulthood. The purpose was to increase knowledge and assertive behaviour and the formation of anti-bullying cadres. The method used was health education and cadre training by providing a pretest and posttest. A knowledge questionnaire on bullying prevention was given to 60 elementary school students from 3 elementary schools in Pasie Nan Tigo Village, Lubuk Buaya Health Center, Koto Tangah District, Padang City. The results of this training found that students' average knowledge increased after being given health education. This training can increase students' knowledge and assertive behaviour about bullying prevention. Cadres are expected to prevent bullying in elementary school-age children so that life in the neighbourhood and school can run in peace and safety.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are dangerous diseases and result in death. The problems found by partners are the low coverage of NCD screening targets, access to health services and the absence of an integrated services centre for the elderly in the targetted area, which impacts NCD monitoring not being carried out. Community service activities aimed to prevent and suppress NCD cases, especially for older people in vulnerable groups. The solution was to detect NCD and provide education and counselling for older people with NCD problems. The community service partner was the Public Health Center. The method of implementing activities was health screening (measuring height and weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid), providing health education about hypertension and diabetes mellitus and health counselling for those indicated by NCDs in Pauh sub-District, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The screening results found 15 healthy older people, 13 people with hypertension, ten people with diabetes, nine people with rheumatism, and seven people with high cholesterol. The results of education and counselling found an increase in knowledge by 16.69 points—follow-up plans by partners to form elderly health centres.

Abstract

Stunting and anaemia in pregnant women are global conditions that are interrelated with the risk of declining health status in children and pregnant women. Anaemia in pregnant women poses a risk of stunting in children, impacting growth and development, brain function, immune system, and learning abilities. For this reason, the purpose of community service is to detect the early risk of stunting in children and anaemia in pregnant women. The method used is an anthropometric examination of toddlers and pregnant women using weight, height, upper arm circumference, and haemoglobin examination to detect the risk of stunting and anaemia. Inspection and measurement data were processed using KMS online and SPSS and presented descriptively in frequency distribution tables and central tendency values. This activity was carried out at the Durian Tiga Batang Posyandu, Kuranji Health Center, Padang City, on 10 August 2023. Data was collected on 50 infants/toddlers and nine pregnant women who visited the Posyandu. The examination revealed that 48% of infants and toddlers were at risk of stunting (short and very short stature), and 11.1% of pregnant women had anaemia. Thus, early detection of stunting through the online KMS application facilitates data interpretation so that it can provide information quickly and recommend further treatment to mothers to achieve ideal child height growth. In addition, early detection of anaemia can prevent stunting in children.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood, where in adolescent girls it is marked by menstruation, breast enlargement, hips, and so on. As a result of these changes, adolescent girls are at risk of experiencing nutritional deficiencies in their bodies which can lead to anemia. Anemia is a condition where there is a lack of hemoglobin levels in the body, the impact of which will be seen now and in the future. Dysmenorrhea is also the most common disorder experienced by women, especially adolescents, during the menstrual cycle. Dysmenorrhea can have an impact on daily activities, but many adolescent girls still do not know the factors related to the occurrence of primary dysmenorrhea, so health education is needed. The purpose of this activity was to provide health education about the risk factors for primary dysmenorrhea and anemia in adolescent girls and to conduct Hb level checks. This community service activity was carried out by providing education with slides and videos related to the risk factors for primary dysmenorrhea and anemia in 100 female students at SMP N 31 Padang. Adolescents will complete a knowledge and attitude questionnaire regarding anemia and primary dysmenorrhea before and after the intervention. The results of this activity showed an increase in knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls regarding the risk factors for primary dysmenorrhea and anemia. The results of Hb examinations in adolescent girls found that 6% of adolescent girls had anemia. It is hoped that this health education can be carried out periodically so that young women can have the right knowledge and a positive attitude in dealing with problems such as dysmenorrhea or anemia.
