<![CDATA[This quasi experimental research aimed to find out the effectiveness of cooperative learning model of Think Pair Share in terms of understanding of mathematical concepts of students. The population of this research was all students ofgrade VII of SMP Negeri 1 Natar in academic year of 2015/2016 that consist of 13 classes. The sample of this research was students of VII-I and VII-J class which were taken by purposive sampling technique. This research design was posttest only control design. The instrument of this research was essay test of understanding of mathematical concepts. Based on the analysis of data, the understanding of mathematical concepts who was taught by TPS learning was better than the understanding of mathematical concepts who was taught by conventional learning and the percentage of students who have good understanding of mathematical concepts was more than 60%. Thus, Think Pair Share cooperative learning model was effective viewed by understanding of mathematical concepts.Penelitian eksperimen semu ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Think Pair Share ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Natar tahun pelajaran 2015/2016 yang terdiri dari tiga belas kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII-I dan VII-J yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Desain penelitian ini adalah posttest only control design. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes uraian pemahaman konsep matematis. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, pemahaman konsep matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran TPS lebih baik dari pemahaman konsep matematis yang mengikuti pembelajaran konvensional dan persentase siswa yang memiliki pemahaman konsep dengan baik lebih dari 60%. Dengan demikian, model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Think Pair Share efektif ditinjau dari pemahaman konsep siswa.Kata kunci: efektivitas, pemahaman konsep, think pair share]]>
