Of the various ethnic groups that comprise Indonesia, Madurese ethnic belongs to the top five in ethnic group population numbers in Indonesia. As an ethnic group, Madurese developed a traditional settlement called natively Taneyan Lanjhang (TL). TL is described as a specific pattern settlement that follows local and Islamic-influenced cultural norms. This research aims to find local wisdom properties in tectonics configuration in Bangsal housing unit concerning thermal comfort and sensation aspect of a vernacular design. The study is using quantitative method with field observation using lidar scanner, hot-wire anemometer and model simulation using computational fluid dynamics. The final result of the study is finding a correlation between closing and opening wall configuration related to thermal comfort defined by airflow, temperature and relative humidity parameter.

A house is a building that functions as a residence or dwelling and as a means of family development. A house should not be considered solely from a quantitative aspect through its physical prospect but also needs to encompass the social and economic aspects of the family. Additionally, a house can extend its function as a place of business and production. Gamelan artisans in the village of Wirun, Mojolaban, Sukoharjo Regency, carry out production activities alongside family development activities. The spatial layout of the gamelan artisans’ homes varies according to their residential and business activities. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, beginning with field observations of gamelan home industries to obtain detailed descriptions of their spatial layout, information on space utilization, and activities occurring within. This information was gathered through interviews with local residents. The study reveals the impact of industrial activities on the spatial arrangement patterns in the homes of gamelan artisans in Wirun.

Universitas Sebelas Maret is committed to strengthening its inclusive identity by providing accessible facilities and infrastructure for people with disabilities. This research evaluates existing conditions and their conformity with building regulations. The goal is to provide information on accessible facilities and infrastructure, as well as to offer recommendations for improving them based on the principles of ease, safety, and comfort for people with disabilities within the UNS campus. The mapping was conducted through field surveys across all campus buildings, covering attributes such as ramps, pedestrian pathways, guide paths, toilets, elevators, and designated parking, in accordance with PUPR No. 14 of 2017. The results show that many facilities and infrastructure do not meet the required physical standards, indicating a need for better future planning to optimize accessibility.

Bali is one of the tropical locations where urban heat islands are felt. An alternative that may be discussed in an effort to lessen solar heat radiation in buildings in order to improve thermal comfort without having a detrimental effect on the environment is solar reflecting paint. This study uses the Autodesk Ecotect Analysis 2011 software simulation method to demonstrate the impact of applying a layer of solar reflecting paint coating (Solar Reflectance Index = 106) on the roof of a contemporary Balinese structure. The thermal comfort of the original model and the model covered in reflective paint were compared using simulation data in the form of Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT), Predicted Mean Vote (PMV), and Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied (PPD). A decline in the MRT, PMV, and PPD values is indicative of a change in the average thermal conditions of buildings, according to the research findings

Apart from functioning as a barrier to houses and other properties, gates can also function as a noise barrier. The gates in Balinese vernacular houses have various typologies and are equipped with locking walls which can act as a noise barrier against sounds coming from the street into the house. This research is a case study research, using a field survey method. The type of gate studied is the cangkem frog type which has a free yard and is located on the collector road. Data was obtained through direct observation and measurement using a sound level meter to determine the results of field measurements. This research shows that choosing the design and location of gates and tension walls as well as adding gates can reduce traffic noise by 5 to 13 dB.

The 2006 earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.3 and an epicenter in Potrobayan Hamlet, Bantul, Yogyakarta, caused significant damage to building structures in the area. This highlights the importance of structural integrity in earthquake-prone regions of Indonesia, particularly in Bantul. This study aims to analyze the structural strength of the Rumah Sakit Universitas Islam Indonesia (RS UII) against potential earthquakes over the next 50 years. This aligns with the building lifespan guidelines set by the Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 45 of 2007, which states that buildings should be evaluated and possibly repaired after 50 years. In this study, the author utilized RESIST software to assess the structural integrity of RS UII in the face of future seismic events. The results revealed weaknesses in the building's structure, indicating that it may not withstand the displacement caused by seismic loads. Therefore, structural reinforcement is necessary to enhance the building's resistance to larger earthquakes. Based on these findings, this study provides recommendations for structural improvements to ensure the hospital's earthquake resilience for the next 50 years, thus preventing significant structural damage.

This research discusses the function of "communal space" in the environment of nursing homes in relation to functional attachment for the elderly. Functional attachment can occur because their needs are met in a certain place. This research aims to analyze the role of communal spaces in enhancing functional attachment among the elderly at Panti Wreda Pengayoman Semarang. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection in this research was conducted through interviews and observations at Panti Wreda Pengayoman Semarang. This research uses purposive sampling technique. The research results show that the availability of communal spaces, clear functions and activities of spaces, accessibility and connectivity between spaces, the availability of green areas, and behavior towards the environment play an important role in functional improvement to achieve attachment to a specific place.

Thermal comfort is an important aspect to achieve in residential buildings. Therefore, this research aims to optimize thermal comfort in residential buildings with Contemporary Balinese Architecture in one of the high-density areas in Bali, namely Gianyar Regency. This study aims to provide design strategy solutions through a descriptive quantitative method in the form of building model simulations using Autodesk Ecotect Analysis software. The optimization focuses on openings and the use of solar reflective paint on the building's exterior to achieve an optimal level of thermal comfort. The results of the case study show that the addition of openings and the use of solar reflective paint can help improve thermal comfort by reducing the MRT (Mean Radiant Temperature) in the building by 0.96°C. The PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) and PPD (Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied) indices were also successfully improved compared to the existing conditions.

Temporary housing for beneficiaries of the Housing Development Program in the slum area of Kelurahan Bira Makassar is interesting to study because its fulfillment is pursued independently by target households. This research aims to understand their preferences for temporary housing during the development process. This research uses the grounded theory method with a content analysis approach and open coding technique. The results show that preferences for temporary housing include: (1) space needs such as bedrooms, toilets, and kitchens; (2) locations close to places of worship, health facilities, village offices, and permanent housing construction locations; and (3) free from rental fees. Beneficiary priority preferences include basic domestic needs that are short-term in nature. Understanding these preferences is important in designing settlements that are more suited to local needs based on the wishes and needs of residents.

Socio-political conditions in a region have a substantial impact on architectural identity. Two contemporary events in Aceh: the 2004 tsunami and the Free Aceh Movement and the Republic of Indonesia conflict, impacted socio-political circumstances and architectural identities. This study revisits the architecture after those two contemporary events in Aceh by examining the socio-political processes and dynamics underlying its architectural representations. The research incorporates literature, theoretical data, and Aceh's architectural and urban history. This research also ties socio-political data to architectural phenomena after the two contemporary events. This research frames two main periods of architectural history after two contemporary events, namely Post-Tsunami 2004 and Post-Conflict. In the post-tsunami 2004 period, there are three architectural phenomena: the shifting perspective of safe and vulnerable places, the new 'Tsunami' typology, and the revival of the old typology. While in the post-conflict period, there are also three architectural phenomena: the search for Islamic architecture, the return of regionalism, and architecture anomalies.
