Abstract

This study describes the context of public service advertisements with the COVID-19 theme in the Thairath Thai newspaper October-November 2020 edition. The data were obtained based on the listening method, documentation and note-taking techniques. The speech component (PARLANT) is used to analyze the context. The validity test used is semantic validity. The validity technique used is repeated reading, discussion with colleagues and expert judgment. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The results showed that health advertising discourse always displays product photos that can describe the product in general. The choice of diction in public service advertisements is themed on COVID-19. In conclusion, health advertising discourse always displays photos and illustrations, and the title contains various propositions; the text provides more specific and detailed information. The language used is Thai which is short, concise, exciting and stated in persuasive sentences. Keywords: Discourse Analysis, COVID-19, Public Service Advertising

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of students to analyze the rhetorical structure of debate in Comprehensive and Critical Listening courses. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data source in this study is the result of student analysis of the 2019 presidential and vice-presidential debates. The results show that students' ability to analyze the rhetorical structure of the 2019 Presidential and Vice Presidential debates is categorized as good, with an average score of 71.18. In conclusion, students can explore the structure of the preliminary rhetoric, the content of arguments and findings from the 2019 Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates debate. Abstract

This study aims to describe the structure of single sentence patterns of seventh-grade students of SMPN 1 Guguak, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. This type of research uses descriptive qualitative. The object of this research is a student worksheet in the form of an exposition text, with the research subject being the students of SMP N 1 Guguak, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The results showed 89 data elements in a single sentence pattern in the exposition text of class VIII students of SMP N 1 Guguak, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The sentence structure with the S + P pattern consists of 2 data (2%), the use of the S + P + O pattern element is 17 sentences from 89 data (19%), the use of the S + P + Pel pattern element is 20 sentences from 89 data (24%), the use of the S+P+Ket pattern element contained 15 sentences from 89 data (7%), the use of the S+P+O+Pel pattern element contained 18 sentences from 89 data (22.5%), and the S sentence element pattern +P+O+Ket there are 17 sentences from 89 data (18%). In conclusion, the most widely used single sentence pattern element in the exposition text of VIII grade students of SMP N 1 Guguak, Lima Puluh Kota Regency is the S+P+Pel pattern. Abstract

This study aims to describe the relationship between effective sentences and the skills of writing descriptive texts for class VII students of SMP N 3 Kec. Payakumbuh. This type of research uses the quantitative correlation method. Sampling was done by random cluster sampling. The results showed that the students' average value of effective sentences was 73.59, with a more than adequate classification. The average descriptive text writing skill is 77.5, with good category. There is a correlation between effective sentences and writing the descriptive text for class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Payakumbuh District with an r-value of 0.836, after being analyzed by the t-test formula, the value of t count> t table (4.02 > 2.085) with dk n-2 (22-2 = 20) and a significant level of 0.05 or 95%. In conclusion, there is a substantial relationship between effective sentences and the skills of writing descriptive text. The better the students' use of effective sentences, the better their writing skills, especially writing descriptive text. Keywords: Effective Sentences, Writing Skills, Description Text
