Abstract

This study is a preliminary research about.seagrass as an important shallow marine biota at Desa Kahyapu Beach, Enggano, North Bengkulu. This research used survey method. The study revealed that seagrass reticence at Kahyapu seashore about 80-95%. There are only two species of seagrass were found in this region: Enhalus accoroides and Cymodocea sp. The density of Enhalus accoroides in three observation sites ranging from 655 to797.5m2, while Cymodocea sp ranging from 388 to 471/m2. Physics and chemistry analysis show that Kahyapushore have a good criteria for growth and development of aquatic organism including seagrass. The average of aquatic temperature, velocity, clarity, acidity and dissolved oxygen consecutively are 32°C, 0.72m/dt, 100%, 34.3 ppm, and 7.4 mg/l. Organic suspension in sediment ranging from 15.6 to 22.7 mg/I and the solid particle suspension about 13.9 -22 mg/l.

Abstract

Lead (Pb) is non-essential heavy metal that is toxic to cultured fishes. Culture media containing Pb lead to health impacts on cultured fishes or even death. Compost is a material that can be used to adsorb Pb due to its humic acid and fulvic acid content. Compost with a C I N ratio of different raw materials will lead to different content of substances. This study aims to compare the leafs of gamal and Api-api used as raw material to produce the compost and its properties to adsorb Pb in fish culture media. The experiment design used a completely randomized design to determine the best level of gamal leaves and Api-api leaves compost, then followed by multiple comparison test to find the best type of compost to adsorb the Pb. The results showed that the best type of compost to adsorb the Pb in cultivation media was gamal leaf compost at 9 g/1. Water treatment with all kinds of compost and its level, low Pb content in fish meat, the survival rate and the growth, except the leaf compost gamal level of 5 g/1.

Abstract

Phytoremediation, an emerging cleanup technology for contaminated soils, groundwater, and wastewater that is both low-tech and low-cost to remove, contain, or render harmless such environmental contaminants as heavy metals, trace elements, organic compounds, and radioactive compounds in soil or water. Bangka Island has some environmental problem that caused tin mining activities. One of them is the formation of pits that have an impact on the carrying capacity of land resources and environmental quality. The aims of research were to identify some native aquatic plants from tin-mined pit and to test some selectable native aquatic plants for bioremediation on medium treatment. Bioremediation tested have been done using 4 selectable plants on 5 combinations of water and medium treatment. The experiment is conducted with 4x5 designs of random factorial pattern and three replications. The measured parameters were: contents of heavy metal (Pb, Cu, Zn) of water, plant canopy and root; fresh weight ratio of the root/canopy, total fresh weight plant; total dry weight plant; DO; and pH. Field surveys in several districts of Bangka (Pemali and Riding Panjang) found some potential aquatic plants for phytoremediation. There were 14 species from 11 genuses. Most of them were Cyperacea. They were species in Pemali and Riding Panjang pit ponds. The selectable plants which used for phytoremediation test were E. ochrostachys, L. articulata, S. cucullata, dan T. angustifolia The phytoremediation treatment showed 4 aquatic plants had good potential for phytoremediation. Based on the heavy metals measurements of Pb, Cu, and Zn, L. articulata was the best plant to accumulate Pb metal (317,35 ppm), and T. angustifolia was the best plant to accumulate Cu and Zn metals (43,55 and 167,25 ppm). Both were phytoaccumulation plants and using phytoextraction mechanism. The selectable plants could increase the DO value and pH rising on the medium treatment

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the community structure of coral fish in Sekunyit waters South Kaur District, Regency of Kaur. This research was conducted at 3 m depth on the west continental shelf of South Kaur Disrict. Data of coral reef fishes was obtained with Visual Census Method that used Reef Resources Assessment (RRA) Method that was depeloved from Manta Tow Method. This research focused on species abundance, diversity indexs (H), dominance index (C) and uniformity index (E): Abundance of coral reef fishes at Sekunyit Waters is 4.987 fish/ha consists of 79 species arid 17 families. Under the category of mayor fish is obtained as many as 6 families major fish with 39 species, 12_ families target fish with 29 and l families indicator fish with 11 species. The data analysis of coral reef fishes· condition was determined with diversity index (H ')= 3.91, dominance index (C) = 0.03 and uniformity index (E) = 0.85. The value of diversity, dominance and uniformity indexs showed that the communities of coral reef fishes and waters condition at Sekunyit Waters is stable

Abstract

Coastal ecosystem that usually found are coral reefs and sea grass beds. Coral reefs and sea grass beds data in spatial should be known, to determine management measure for an area. The research is conducted by interpretation of Aster Image Satellite and collected coral reefs and sea grass beds data. The research conclusion is distribution of coral reefs and sea grass beds (in spatial map), with sea grass condition as mediocre (not healthy), damaged coral reefs at west of Ketawai Island
