Abstract

The use of agricultural technology supported by competency and extension is expected to increase the motivation of cocoa farmers in the Jayapura district and have an impact on improving the welfare of farmers. In this research, we will examine how competence, agricultural technology, and extension impact performance, which is mediated by motivation. Questionnaires were distributed to 210 cocoa farmers in Jayapura district, and the data collected was analyzed using covariance-based SEM (CB-SEM). The results show that competence, agricultural technology, and extension significantly affect motivation and performance. Likewise, motivation has a significant effect on farmer performance and is significant in mediating the influence of competence, agricultural technology, and extension on performance. Based on these findings, it is hoped that the Jayapura Regency Agriculture Service will be able to provide education to farmers in using agricultural technology so that the competence and motivation of cocoa farmers in the Jayapura Regency will increase.

Abstract

Agricultural extension workers have an important role in increasing farmers' skills and knowledge. One of the lessons in agricultural extension is field school. Field schools becomes knowledge transfer centers for agricultural educators to pass on skills to farmers. In Sijunjung Regency there are four sub-districts that conduct the highest number of field schools which are the focus of research to analyze the factors that influence the competency of agricultural instructors in implementing field schools. This research uses a survey to collect data from agricultural instructors who have implemented field schools since 2016, with a sample of 40 people who have fulfilled the requirements for SEM Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) analysis using the SmartPls 4.0 program. The results of the research show that factors that have a significant influence on the competency of instructors in implementing field schools in Sijunjung Regency include: the instructor's work environment (including organizational structure, infrastructure, workload, collaboration with partners) and field school learning groups (number of groups, management learning).

Abstract

This study aims to 1) determine the description of pineapple farming 2) analyze the effect of people's business credit (KUR) on pineapple farming production in Sungai Gelam District, Muaro Jambi Regency. The data used in this study are primary data and secondary data. The analysis method used is the classical assumption test based on ordinary least square and path analysis. The percentage ratio of the amount of KUR to the total cost per hectare of pineapple farming is 210.3%, this indicates that the use of the amount of KUR loans by farmers exceeds the total cost of pineapple farming in one harvest season. The amount of KUR is too large for the total cost of farming of IDR 6,644,737 per hectare. The results of the study indicate that the variables that are significant in the use of production are the variables of land area and People's Business Credit (KUR).

Abstract

Cultivation of soybean plants in Ultisols is faced with problems of acidity and high Al content, as well as low fertility in both macro and micronutrients. This research aims to determine the effect of the interaction of chicken manure and egg shells on the availability of N, P, and K nutrients and the growth of soybean plants. The research was conducted from January to May 2022 at the Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University. A Randomized Block Design (RAK) with two factors, namely chicken manure (0, 50, 75, and 100 tons/ha) and egg shells (0, 1, 2, and 3 tons/ha) was used in this experiment. The research results showed that the interaction of providing chicken manure (100 tons/ha) and egg shells (3 tons/ha) could increase N nutrient availability by 86.66%. Providing 50 tons/ha of chicken manure can increase soil pH and P and K nutrient availability by 4.01%, 286.66%, and 95.29% respectively. The growth parameters of plant height, stem diameter, and number of leaves increased by 91.48%, 120.83%, and 221.27%, respectively. Providing 1 ton/ha of eggshells can increase soil pH by 2.48%. These results confirm that the application of chicken manure and egg shells can increase the availability of soil nutrients and increase the growth of soybean plants in Ultisols.

Abstract

The problems in melon cultivation include the decreasing availability of agricultural land and suboptimal productivity. To address these issues, a review of melon cultivation techniques is necessary, focusing on adjusting plant spacing and increasing the number of fruits per plant. This study aims to examine the effects of plant spacing and the number of fruits per plant on melon (Cucumis melo L.) production. The research was conducted on the horticultural land of Politeknik Negeri Lampung from June to September 2022. The experimental design used was a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors, each repeated three times. The first factor was plant spacing with three levels: 40 cm x 60 cm (J1), 60 cm x 60 cm (J2), and 80 cm x 60 cm (J3). The second factor was the number of fruits per plant with three levels: one fruit per plant (P1), two fruits per plant (P2), and three fruits per plant (P3). The observed parameters included weight per fruit (kg), fruit weight per plant (kg), fruit diameter (cm), flesh thickness (cm), and soluble solid content (ᵒbrix). Data analysis was performed using variance analysis followed by the LSD test at 5%. The results showed that a plant spacing of 60 cm x 60 cm with two fruits per plant and a plant spacing of 80 cm x 60 cm with two fruits per plant yielded better results for all parameters except for soluble solid content.

Abstract

Hygiene products commonly contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) which can trigger skin irritation or cause dandruff on the scalp. Through innovation and technological advancements, a 3-in-1 soap is planned to be studied to create a natural soap that is effective and contains natural ingredients that are beneficial for skin health. The aim of this research is to determine the physical and chemical characteristics of the 3-in-1 hygiene product based on sapindus (Sapindus rarak) and pineapple peel extract, and also to assess the potential microbial contamination in the 3-in-1 hygiene product. The research method used is the RAL (Randomized Complete Block Design) with 2 factors: sapindus concentration (A=15%, 22.5%, and 30%) and pineapple peel extract (B=9%, 18%, and 27%) with 3 replications. Testing parameters include physicochemical quality (viscosity, specific gravity, foam stability, and pH) as well as the inhibition ability against S. aureus and E. coli. The results show that variations in treatment have a significant effect on all test parameters except specific gravity. The best treatment was obtained by comparing data with SNI 4085:2017, resulting in treatment A2B2 with viscosity of 10,57±0,05de cp, specific gravity of 25.99±0.09 g/ml, foam stability of 71,27±0,25e %, and pH of 4,01±0,10c, with inhibition zone against E. coli of 5±0,00a mm and 6±1,41ab mm.

Abstract

Pepper is one of the important commodities in Indonesia. The main obstacles In pepper cultivation is basal stem rot. It can be solved by grafting pepper plants on rootstock that is resistant to that disease. Melada plants (Piper colubrinum Link) are considered resistant to stem rot disease and are also resistant to flooding and drought. The aim of this research was to test the resistance of melada plants to drought stress. The research was carried out using a completely randomized design consisting of five treatments with five replications, and every treatment unit consisting of three plants. Melada cuttings are planted in plastic pots. After 5 months, the seedlings were treated with drought stress by irrigating using a Polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution with concentrations of 0%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% for two months. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results showed that drought stress treatment reduced plant growth in the variables  leaves number and fully opened leaf area. Melada plants are resistant to drought stress up to an osmotic pressure level of -4.5 bar, equivalent to 15% PEG. Apart from reducing growth, drought stress causes necrotic damage on the leaves starting from the edges of the leaves.

Abstract

Gumawang Hamlet has its own managed cocoa farming, but the income it earns has not increased so it is important for farming to have an objective and transparent performance assessment system. The objective to be achieved in this research is to determine the performance results of the Sidodadi Farmer group farmers when measured using the Balanced Scorecard approach. The method used in this research is the Balance Scorecard approach. Key performance indicators are measured by comparing the level of achievement (realization) with the Budget Work Plan (RKAP) that has been determined for the same year. The performance measurement results using the 7 indicators in the questionnaire show that 4 factors have quite good scores. These 4 factors are as follows: 1) work wisely in land problems with an average of 3.5% weight value 27. 2) work diligently with an average of 3.2% weight value 15. 3) work neatly with an average value of 3.2% weight value 15. 4) farmers master knowledge with an average of 3.2% weight value 15.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the potential for increasing corn production in Kelam Permai Subdistrict, Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, utilizing secondary data. The data collected were then analyzed using Location Quotient (LQ), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ), and Shift-Share. The results indicate that Kelam Permai Subdistrict has great potential to enhance corn production in supporting food self-sufficiency in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province. Despite a decline in corn production from 2019 to 2023, the high and increasing LQ value demonstrates a higher specialization in corn production compared to the provincial average, and the positive PPW value confirms the district's competitiveness and comparative advantage. However, the negative PP value highlights the need for strategic interventions to address growth obstacles such as climatic conditions, pest infestations, and resource allocation, so that the significant potential of Kelam Permai Subdistrict in corn production can be maximized effectively.
