Abstract

Usage of high chemicals at process of paper and pulp generate much negative impact at environment. To lessen the mentioned used by enzyme of mushroom upon which white rot fungi because owning ability of lignin degradation selectively and only elaborating and cellulose of hemicelluloses in number a few. Result of research indicate that from is fourth of isolate test that is ampas tebu busuk isolate, isolate P. Porigens, isolate V. Volvaceae , Ganoderma sp and Omphilia sp can existing lignin degradable in bags and yield enzyme of laccase. Omphilia sp have potency for the degradable of lignin equal to 72% with degradation of cellulose equal to 0, 5% and yield enzyme activity of laccase equal to 37, 56 units / ml.   Keyword:  bagasse, lignocellulose, biopulping

Abstract

The objective of this research was to asses the optimal chitosan concentration as wet noodle preservative. The study conducted two stage 1) . to know the best concentration and storage duration of wet noodle.  The first factor was chitosan concentration (K) K0 (0 ppm), K1 (50 ppm), K2 (100 ppm), K3 (150 ppm), K4 (200 ppm) and the second factor was storage duration H0 (0 hour),  H1( 24 hours), H2 (48 houurs) and H3 (72 hours).  2). To know the best chitosan  concentration’s  compared with using of formalin. The result shows that higher chitosan concentration will give higher quality wet noodle which was showed by parameter microba total account, texture, rancidity, and overall acceptance. Optimal chitosan concentration was 150 ppm  with  optimal storage duration  24 hours. Chitosan can be developed  and  used to avoid formalin and the other kinds of  hazard material using for food product. Keywords : Chitosan, formalin. antibacterial activities

Abstract

The Indonesian traditional herbal medicine has been practiced for many centuries in Indonesia to treat malaria diseases. Although modern medicine is becoming increasingly important, herbal medicine is still very popular. In order to select raw material for preparation of safety herbal medicines, forty five medicinal plants have been tested for acute toxicity in mouse at a dose 715 mg/kg body weight. The extracts of Asclepias curassavica leave, Alstonia scholaris leave, Decospermum fruticosum leave, Elaocarpus petiolatus bark, Elaocarpus parvifolius bark, Eurycoma longifolia root, Garcinia rigida bark, Nephelium lappaceum bark, Pentaspodan motleyi leave, Picrasma javanica leave, Phyllanthus niruri whole, Quassia indica leave, Syzygium pycnanthum bark, Tetrasera scandens leave, Cratoxylum glaucum bark, Sandoricum emarginatum bark, Mallotus paniculatus leave, Microcos ovatolanceolata bark, Poikilospermum suaveolens leave, Fibraurea chloroleuea leave, Tetrasera scandens root, and Timonius billitonensis bark showed toxicity with mortality level of 20-100%. The remaining 32 plant extracts were not toxic at dose tested. The toxic plant species should be considered in the preparation of herbal medicines. Of the safety extracts were tested for their antimalarial activity against Plasmodium berghei in vivo at a dose 715 mg/kg body weight. Extract of Carica papaya leave was most active than other plant extracts with parasitemia 1.13%, while control showed 17.21%. More research is needed to scientifically prove efficacy and to identity antimalarial constituents in the plant extracts. Key words: Indonesian medicinal plant, jamu, toxicity, antimalarial activity, Plasmodium berghei.

Abstract

Drying of soybean plants have some problems, because its volume is big and so needed big place to drying. Generally, the farmers drying their soybeans with traditional methode with energy of sunrise or aeration without cover and it caused high losses and persentage of waste. The experiment was conducted at Kalirejo Subdistrict, Central Lampung residence on June 2004. The teratments is drying methode such as: on the ground without cover (J1); on the floor without cover (J2); on the ground with cover (J3); on the floor with cover (J4); piled on the floor (J5); and roll back on the floor (J6) with 3 replications. Parameters of observation were persentage of filled out seed, broken seed, grapeseed, and waste. Analyze of data with DMRT at 5% level. The result showed that the soybean dried with cover on the ground and on the floor has highest persentage of filled out seed and lowest waste; the soybean that dried with piled on the floor has highest persentage of broken seed; and drying methode did not influenced on the grapeseed.   Key words: soybean, drying, quality

Abstract

Flavor is an important sensory aspect of the overall acceptability of food. The sensation of flavor is comprised of aroma, taste, which are most affecting the sensation of flavor, texture and psychological perception. Determination of flavor is most emphasized on the constituents flavor rather than the mechanism and metabolic pathway. However, this paper will have a discussion on the flavor formation in fruit and vegetables. Key words: Flavor, flavor chemistry, flavor formation, aroma, taste.

Abstract

The effect of citric acid concentration on functional characteristics of polysaccharide forming gel (PFG) of green cincau leaves (Premna Oblongifolia Merr.) were evaluated. PFG of green cincau leaves were extracted through the use of citric acid (0,0%, 0,1%, 0,2%, 0,3%, 0,4%, and 0,5% w/v) solution, precipitated using ethanol, and  followed by drying of the extracts.  The results showed that increasing of citric acid levels reduced the viscosity, water holding capacity, and bulking capacity of the PFGs. Oil holding capacity and water solubility were not affected by citric acid addition. The addition of 0.0% citric acid produced the highest viscosity, water holding capacity, and bulking capacity suggesting possible uses of the extract as dietary fibre with good laxative effect.   Key Words:  Green cincau leaves, functional characteristic, dietary fibre.

Abstract

The performance of the calibration model with temperature compensation for on-plant leaf water potential (LWP) determination in tomato plants was evaluated. During a cycle of water stress, the on-plant LWP measurement was conducted. The result showed that the LWP values under water stress and recovery from water stress could be monitored well. It showed that a real time monitoring of the LWP values using NIR spectroscopy could be possible.   Keywords: water stress, real time monitoring of leaf water potential, NIR spectroscopy, plant response-based
