Abstract

The development of Science and Technology has a positive and negative impact. The negative impact caused by the development of science and technology shows that education is faced with the challenge of producing graduates who have the ability to solve problems. Meanwhile, on the other hand it is known that the scientific literacy skills of students in Indonesia are still low. The socioscientific issue is an important element that needs to be presented in science and technology learning activities. The purpose of the article is to describe the application of socioscientific issues-based learning as an effort to train high order thinking skills in junior high school students. This article is a literature study where related articles are reviewed and the information obtained is compiled into a writing.

Abstract

The problem of learning biology is always dynamic in accordance with the learning ecology that is developing. In line with this problem, the learning activities that occur in class X-MIPA 3 SMAN 4 Magelang are also found, based on observations and discussions with the class teacher, the conclusion of the problem is the learning outcomes that are not in accordance with the minimum completeness value and the learning variation is not much as well as more directed towards teacher-centered learning. Based on the results during August to October, classroom action research was carried out using an integrated STAD learning model and Mind mappping. The study was planned in 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of 3 meetings on class X with biodiversity material in Indonesia. The results showed that the application of the STAD Cooperative Learning Model and mind mapping in general can improve the learning outcomes of class X MIPA-3 students of SMAN 4 Magelang. Increasing the percentage of mastery learning from cycle I amounted to 73.52% to cycle II amounted to 85.29% with a difference of increase of 11.77%. While the average score of test results in the first cycle was 72.11 while in the second cycle was 75.50.

Abstract

The ability to think critically is the main ability needed for graduates in the 21st century. In this regard the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning learning model with experimental task methods that can trigger critical thinking skills. This type of research is a quasi-experiment using pre-test and post-test. The population used is the XII grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Jember in the 2018/2019 academic year. The research sample used was selected through purposive random sampling. The analysis used is Covariance Analysis. The results showed that the average difference in the value of critical thinking skills of the experimental class students was higher than the control class, which was 31 for the experimental class and 24 for the control class, with significance results (Sig = 0,000). This is because PBL is a learning model that uses contextual problems so that students actively build knowledge and can accommodate the development of critical thinking skills. In conclusion, the Problem-Based Learning learning model with the experimental assignment method triggers an increase in students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate: (1) The feasibility of biodiversity module based on Socioscientific issues and local potential according to the expert of material and the expert of media; (2) The students learning outcomes or achievements after using the biodiversity module based on Socioscientific issues and local potential. The method used in this study is a research and development (R & D) method with Hannafin and Peck's model. The subject of this study is the third-semester students of Mathematics Education Department of IKIP PGRI Pontianak who take the General Biology lesson in the academic year 2018/2019 that consist of one class, namely Class A Afternoon. The technique of collecting data used in this study is an indirect communication technique with the data collection tool in the form of a validation questionnaire and a test to gain the data of students learning achievement. The result of this study are: (1) The biodiversity module based on Socioscientific issues and local potential that is developed and worthy to be used with the indexed percentage of 75.91%; (2) Students learning achievement after using the biodiversity module based on Socioscientific issues and local potential that is developed is increasing with the normalized gain value of 0.6 that belongs to the medium category.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the influence of online game toward biology learning achievement, dealing with the school environment and family environment of senior high school and junior high school students. The research method of this study is descriptive qualitative, which had been conducted at SMA N 1 Suhaid and SMP N 1 Suhaid, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. The sample is students who play online games. The technique of collecting data is using questionnaire in order to investigate online game users, interest factor in learning biology at school, and family factor. The technique of data analysis is using linear regression. Moreover, the result of the hypothesis test includes; (1) It is obtained that t > t table, or 2.789> 2.024. It means that there is an influence of online games toward biology learning achievement at SMA N 1 Suhaid in terms of the school environment. (2) The second hypothesis test results t < t table, or 0.903 <2.024. It means that there is no influence of online games in terms of family environment. (3) The result of the third hypothesis test results t > t table, or 2.132> 2.024. It means that there is an influence of online games toward the school environment. (4) The fourth hypothesis test results t > t, or 2.140> 2.024. It means that there is an influence of online game toward family environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to enhance students' ability of science subject in the material of human organs structure with the problem-based learning method for the fourth graders of elementary school. This research is conducted with the fourth graders odd semester of SD Negeri Botoputih in the Academic Year 2017/2018 as the subject. Based on the result of classroom action research on the implementation of Problem-Based Learning Model to enhance the students’ learning achievement of science subject in the material of human organs structure for the Fourth Graders of SD Negeri Botoputih Odd Semester in the Academic Year 2017/2018, it can be stated that the learning outcome of science subject in the material of human organs structure in the pre-cycle with a minimum score standard of 70 is not optimal yet. The data shows 22 students in total that there are 10 students with a percentage of 45.45% can complete and pass the minimum score standard. While 12 students with a percentage of 54.55% are failed. The cause is because of the lack of evaluation method in a science subject. The result of the first cycle shows that science subject in the material of human organs structure with a minimum score standard of 70 has not been optimal yet. The data shows 22 students in total that there are 17 students with a percentage of 77.27% can complete and pass the minimum score standard. While 5 students with a percentage of 22.73%. The result of the second cycle shows that science subject in the material of human organs structure with a minimum score standard of 70 is optimal and much better. The data shows 22 students in total that there are 22 students with a percentage of 100% can complete and pass the minimum score standard. Surely, there is nobody failed with a percentage of 0%
