Abstract

Obesity is a global epidemic that must be addressed immediately because it can trigger various degenerative diseases. Early prevention by using screening through anthropometric measurements such as body mass index, neck circumference, and skinfold thickness is needed in assessing nutritional status. The research method is descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The research subjects consisted of 77 students of the Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of North Sumatra who were taken using the consecutive sampling method. Research results based on male and female gender and nutritional status category, the average BMI for men was 25.0 kg/m2 (Obesity I), and for women was 24.6 kg/m2 (Overweight). The mean neck circumference for men is 38.5 cm (Large), for women is 37.1 cm (Large), and based on the neck circumference cut-off point, classified as Obesity Level I. The average of skinfold thickness is 23.6 mm for men and 18.4 mm for women. The average body fat percentage for men is 23.5% (Fat), and for women is 27.5% (Slightly Overfat). Spearman correlation test showed a significant relationship between neck circumference and skinfold thickness on body mass index (p<0,05) with a strong correlation on neck circumference (r=0.526) and a very strong correlation on skinfold thickness (r=0.837), and the direction of correlation is in the same direction (positive). There is a significant relationship between neck circumference and skinfold thickness on body mass index.

Abstract

Primary healthcare facilities play a crucial role in handling emergency cases that require quick response and effective coordination among healthcare professionals. Strengthening interprofessional competencies through medical simulation has become a key strategy in improving communication skills, team coordination, and decision-making effectiveness in emergency situations. This study employs a quasi-experimental method involving various healthcare professions in realistic scenario-based emergency simulations. The results indicate that after attending the simulation training, there was a significant improvement in team communication, coordination, and decision-making effectiveness. Simulations not only enhance healthcare workers’ preparedness in handling emergency cases but also contribute to reducing medical errors. Therefore, this method is recommended for widespread implementation in primary healthcare facilities to improve emergency service quality.

Abstract

Catastrophic illness emergencies are often emotional and challenging experiences for patients' families. This study aims to explore families' experiences in dealing with catastrophic illness emergencies in the Emergency Department (ED). This research used a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with family members of patients experiencing catastrophic illnesses and treated in the ED. The findings indicate that families face various emotional, psychological, and social challenges, along with coping strategies to deal with these situations. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of psychosocial support for patients' families in dealing with catastrophic illness emergencies.

Abstract

Cardiovascular emergencies require immediate and appropriate treatment. The presence of healthcare personnel has long been an issue in hospitals, despite the abundance of medical and paramedical professionals. These medical and paramedical personnel generally possess basic life-saving skills. The Code Blue team can be activated by initiating the code blue system. Code blue is a system that activates an emergency response for patients experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or other critical situations requiring resuscitation. This study aims to examine the role of the interprofessional team and code blue in managing cardiac and respiratory arrest in hospitals. The research employs a narrative review method. The role of the code blue team is crucial in managing cardiac and respiratory arrest in hospitals. This study shows that, in general, all cases of cardiac and respiratory arrest emergencies require the activation of the code blue team to receive immediate care and assistance. The presence of the code blue team helps reduce mortality rates and increases the likelihood of patients experiencing Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC).
