Abstract

The accuracy of state of charge (SoC) measurement has been an important key in the design of Battery Management System (BMS). A SoC measurement can prevent the battery from both overcharged and undercharged condition. One of the conventional methods for SoC estimation is coloumb counting (CC). This method has a drawback regarding to the accumulation of error propagation. To improve the accuracy of CC method, the integral observer could be added. In our work charge-discharge data simulation generated by PSIM was used to test the Integral observer performance. This research used general lithium-ion battery. It was found that this approach could significantly correct the error from the numerical integral calculation and discrete data input. The error of CC method at 4000 sec was found to reach 25%; however the error propagation could be decreased up to less than <3% by Integral observer.

Abstract

Hydrilla verticillata has a functional group that has free electrons. If the functional group is contacted with a solution containing heavy metals, it will form a bond with the metals. This study aims to determine the uptake ca- pacity of Hydrilla verticillata biomass in optimum condition and its reaction kinetics using measurement methods Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Based on the research that has been done, the optimum conditions of Zn2+ cation absorption by Hydrilla verticillata biomass is at pH 5, its contact time is 120 minutes, and its maximum absorption capacity is 125 ppm. The order reaction Zn2+  cation absorption by Hydrilla verticillata biomass is 1.

Abstract

There are many kinds of house insecticide used as antimosquito insecticide. An unsafe application of it might affect our health. Pangandaran Village is a malaria and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in the district of Pangandaran, West Java. The aim of this study is to describe the use of house insecticide by many households in Pangandaran village. An exploratory study with cross-sectional design is conducted for four months starting from April 2014. Several interviews were randomly assigned to 201 households to discover the use of house antimosquito insecticide. Sample collecting method is done using multiple random sampling over each subvillage. The numbers of household interviewed are determined by the proportion number of household in each neighborhood unit (RT). There are 82% households using antimosquito for more than ten years (59%) and using repellent daily (19.4%). Comfort is the main reason why most households use antimosquitos (46%). Households use insecticides one time at night (79.6%) and spend less than IDR 5,000 to buy insecticide. This study provides supporting information for local stakeholders over the use of house insecticide that can be benefitted as a reference for developing policy on vector control disease.

Abstract

Any deficiency of carotenoid in goldfish’ feeds can fade the color of the fish (Carassius auratus), especially in aquarium condition. The aim of this study was to explore other sources of carotenoid which is to replace the synthetic carotenoid already used. The fish were fed with different types of feed i.e. those without carotenoid source (A), those with synthetic astaxanthin (synthetic carotenoid) (B), Haematococcus pluvialis meal (C), and marigold petal meal (D). Lightness (L), chroma (C), hue (H), and the content of total carotenoids in the skin of fish were analyzed. The result showed that lightness was not significantly different among treatments. The best value of chroma was 35.59% (D), significantly different from those with other treatments and followed by 25.25% (B), 20.36% (C), and 19.98% (A). The highest content of total carotenoid in the skin was derived from B (59.55mg/kg), followed by D (24.79mg/kg), C (6.84mg/kg), and A (5.37mg/kg). This study suggests that marigold petal can be used as an alternative natural carotenoid source replacing synthetic carotenoid.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the antioxidant potential and anti-proliferative activity of Curcuma zedoaria Rosc extract on Hela cells. Two types of materials, such as water and ethanol extracts, were tested at different dose levels (1, 5, and 10%). The potential of antioxidant extract was tested by observing the peroxide value (POV) and prophylactic properties of superoxide (SO). The effects of Cytotoxic extracts were tested by observing the anti-proliferative properties on Hela cell morphology. Results showed that both water extract and ethanol extract contain antioxidants with higher value of superoxide and peroxide than a-tocopherol. Antioxidant potential of Curcuma zedoaria extract is evidential at its high concentration of 10%, but is less significant at lower concentration of 1 and 5%, when compared to the potential of positive control (a-tocopherol) and negative control (non-extract mixture). Antiproliferative activity of Curcuma zedoaria extracts at low concentration (1 and 5%) is not effective. At high concentration of 10%, anti-proliferative activity is effective. Cytotoxic effect of water extract of the rhizome of Curcuma zedoaria at the concentration of 10% changes the Hela cell morphology, but not cell wall rupture. High concentration of ethanol extract causes Hela cells to change its shape, rupture the cell walls, and fragment the cells.
