Abstract

The study of stem cells in regenerative dentistry is the most precious in-progress research. Stem cells arethe cells that have the self-renewal capacity and can differentiate to mature cells. Stemcells also have theprospective to form dentin matrix, bone and neuronal cellsrapidly. Stem cell-based therapeutic approachesprovide a better and attractive alternative that the classical dental treatments because of their questionableefficacy and durability. The most promising alternative for tooth loss is the utilization of stem cells andinduced pluripotent for the regeneration of the whole tooth. Therefore helping with the progress in inducingbone rejuvenation, treating damaged teeth, stem cell-based therapy plays a vital role. So, this article willhighlight the role and importance of stem cells in regeneration in Dentistry

Abstract

Orthodontic therapy is a combination of process which is related to move the malalligned teeth by correctingits position. There have been many dental cases where orthodontic tooth movement is assisted by periodontaltherapy and also the periodontal condition is improved by orthodontic therapy. This interdisciplinaryapproach is a symbiotic relation between the two. This review highlights the various orthodontic therapiesrequiring periodontal therapy for better outcome and vice-versa. Harmonious cooperation between theperiodontist and orthodontist would provide satisfactory outcome for the combined orthodontic periodontalproblems. The knowledge of this approach in the field of dentistry would help clinicians’ decide a betteroutcome in patient’s favour.

Abstract

The application of low controlled temperatures had advanced in recent years in many branches of surgery.Cryotherapy has opted as an option to destroy cancerous cells in mostly the head and neck region. In manycutaneous conditions, it has been productively used. It is a therapeutical process in which tissue inflammatoryand destructive response is done by freezing. Hence, it deliberately destroys tissue by using severe cold.Mouth is reasonably accessible due to oral mucosa’s moist surface that is well suitable for the application ofcryoprobe. We will discuss how cryotherapy can be used instead of surgical procedures.

Abstract

Nowadays people face several dental issues among them one of the major issues is Nursing Bottle Syndrome. It affects preschool children and infants worldwide. It is one of the common childhood diseases. Driven bya dysbiosis state of oral micro-organism mainly caused by a sugar-rich diet. Little one less than 36 monthsof period if any indication of tooth decay seen than its a sign of acute Nursing Bottle Syndrome. Existenceof single or many blights, lost or restored milk teeth in children aged 5 years or smaller starts with milkor fresh snow spot along the free gingival margin on the surface near the lip of upper central and lateraleyetooth which often goes undetected by folks and caregivers, spreading later to the (deciduous) maxillaryand mandibular first molars, maxillary and mandibular canine followed by maxillary and mandibular 2ndmolar whereas the mandibular molars are not affected (the teeth are affected in the order they erupt). Dentalcare acts as a major part of dental function and is required for phonetic and all-round self-development ofindividuals.

Abstract

Background: Presence of intact interdental papilla is considered as an essential component of health andesthetics. Interdental papilla loss or “black triangles” results in food retention, phonetic problems andunaesthetic appearance especially in maxillary anterior regions but there are very few studies reporting theprevalence of this condition.Aim: To assess the prevalence of anterior interdental papillary loss among young adults in Bhubaneswar.Materials and Method: A total of 483 patients were screened and 157 patients met the inclusion andwere assessed for papilla loss parameters (Norland & Tarnow and Jemt Classification). All these patientsunderwent oral prophylaxis and then clinical photographs were taken. Results: High frequency of papillary loss was seen in males (62.4%) compared to females (37.6%). Papillaryloss was commonly seen in midline (51.0%) than in laterals(49.0%). Jemt Grade 2 (43.3%)and Nordlandand Tarnow Class I(43.3%) papillary recession was more commonly seen. Conclusion: There is higher prevalence of papilla loss in the midline region of maxillary anteriors presentinghalf or more of the height of the papilla

Abstract

In childhood dental caries is commonly affecting diseases. According to the World Health Organization60% to 90% of school children and adults are affected by this disease. It is a disease that can be preventedand if diagnosed in early-stage tooth decay can be stopped by applying various preventive materials. Theprimary prevention of dental caries mainly focused on young children. Fluoride has been widely used as apreventive measure against caries development. Fluoride is found in topical and systemic form, the topicalform is good, has a high life span. Recent advancements suggest that asymptomatic regimen of caries lesionhas the inherent of re-mineralization. In the field of dentistry, nanotechnology has been introduced which hasdeveloped substances ranging from 100nm or smaller in size. Nanotechnology replicates the natural dentalenamel by the process of bio-mineralization. Leading an integral part of bone and teeth is the hydroxyapatite.Since, nano-hydroxyapatite can provide preventive and therapeutic loom to caries in children worldwide, therefore various researches are performed to improve its capacity in clinics.

Abstract

Necrotic pulp in permanent teeth with incompletely formed or wide-open apices results in the death ofcells that are effective in the improvement of root. This slows down the possibility of apical closure aswell as improvement of root. Endodontic management consisting of diseased or dead pulp with adolescentpermanent teeth along with an open expanded root apex is a challenging concern. During obturation in thattooth,it is unimaginable to obtain a proper seal at the tip. There are various techniques to treat an immaturetooth with open apex which involve the application of (1) a custom-made cone(blunt end); (2) a short filltechnique; (3) periapical surgery; (4) apexification; and (5) one-visit apexification. Mostly recommendedtreatment of choice is ‘apexification’ which is a method to induce root apex development of an immaturenonvital tooth by formation of osteocementum or bone-like tissue. The most recommended medicament iscalcium hydroxide that facilitates the development of a calcific barrier found in the root apex. According tothe survey of the clinical involvement and information of journalists, management of an incomplete nonvitaltooth can bring noticeable outcomes from the disinfectant and ossification promoting activity of Ca(OH)2

Abstract

The need of the hour is an accurate and timely diagnosis for an effective treatment plan to cure or eliminatethe disease. Clinical measurements, traditionally available, have their limitations in helping diagnose an“active” disease. Hence, novel chairside diagnostic kits are essential to detect active disease, predict itsprogression and help in the evaluation of response, of a patient, to therapy, thereby aiding in the managementof periodontal patients. This review article, therefore, discusses the various chairside diagnostic aids availableto aid Periodontists, in diagnosing and treating periodontal patients.
