Abstract

A fundamental part of good research is concerned with making sure that the design of the questionnaireaddresses the needs of research. After a proper administration of the questionnaire, a questionnaire constantlymeasures what it intends to measure thereby giving us confident results of a study. It has been documentedin several studies regarding Validity and Reliability, as an important source of measuring the accuracyand consistency of research instruments (especially questionnaires). But their measure is not observedto be practiced in developing countries among health plus social science researchers. This review articlecomprehensively explores and describes questionnaire design and measures to validate a questionnaireincluding its reliability testing.

Abstract

In oral fissure, “squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) “is the commonest oral carcinomas which comprises (90-95%). After the 5th decade of age, male predilection is double as compared to females. (40%)of OSCCare confined to the dorsal or ventral surface ofthe tongue,(thirty percent)on the floor of the oral fissure.“OSCC” regularly distresses maxillary and mandibular attached gingiva, buccal mucosa, retro-molarandpalatal region. In 5 years’ survival percentage series from 20% {OSCC in the floor of the mouth} to 60%{OSCC in alveolus portion of jawbone} depicting poor prognosis. Although it is tough but it is required todo imaging studies to understand the results at the initialphases of the disease. Various modalities include{conventional plain film radiography, panoramic radiograph, cone beam computed tomography,Perfusioncomputed tomography,Magnetic resonance imaging–(diffusion-weighted MRI, dynamic contrast-enhancedMRI), ultrasonography, single-photon emission computed tomography}, fusion techniques such as (ECT/CT, CT/MRI, PET/CT, PET/MRI) along with nuclear medicines – (2-deoxy-2-[18F] fluoro-D-glucose),(18F-FDG), 18F-3-fluoroalpha-methyltyrosine, (18F-FAMT) and L-1-[11C]-tyrosine(C-tyrosine),radionuclide imaging. These various imaging diagnostic modalities support in the grading of the tumor, valuation of the vascular supply, resolution about metastasis combined with confined lymph nodes as wellas detached organs. Furthermore, imaging lessons help to forecast the possibility of resection and advancemanagement, graft establishment, and diversity amongst reactive and metastatic lymph nodes, and amongstdiseases reappearance and marks or adversative reactions of post-operation or emission therapy

Abstract

The Fibro osseous lesion is a group of diseases or lesions that are affecting the skeletal tissue which frequentlyincludes maxilla and mandible. The disease can also be easily described as bone disorders. A lot of researchand work has been done regarding this serious disease though due to similarities in its radiographical featuresor histopathology, it is been very complicating to diagnose and classify FOLs. The review article focuses ondifferent diseases that come under the fibro-osseous lesion and the genes which have been associated withthe respective one in an orderly manner with their Histopathological features. One to understand this lesionthe clinical correlation with radiographic involvement is necessary to diagnose this kind of dysplasia. Thearticle also throws light on that the mandible and maxilla also suffer from localized and generalized formsof skeletal dysplasia which results in disproportionate short stature. These dysplasias always remain in aconfused manner for their nomenclature. Much classification has been proposed by the different authors indifferent years regarding the FOLs based on gene or protein defect in these disorders.

Abstract

The routine staining which is also called as H & E staining (Hematoxylin and eosin) is the most widely usedstain in the laboratories or histopathology laboratory. In this procedure the nuclear protein stains purpleand the cytoplasm and any other substances stains as red or orange. It plays a very crucial role in medicaldiagnosis or research where the specimen or tissue is been sent for processing. The staining procedure isperformed by trained professionals and after which the role of highly trained pathologists and researcherscome, which under the microscope view the specific structures, cells and even microorganisms to providea diagnosis for the specific disease. The special stains are those which come under the special stainingtechnique or alternative method for the H & E stains, where H & E staining does not provide the properidentification or appreciation of certain normal and abnormal tissue or structure which the pathologist orresearchers needs. This article throws light on the Special stains which are been used in histopathologicalprocedures in which these abnormal or normal tissues can be properly appreciated. The article also focuseson the procedure, principle and uses of these special stains in their respective field.

Abstract

The past years in dentistry has seen the growth of the use of laser advance by leaps and bounds. Thoughsoft-tissue laser was originally presented, but with the development of new-generations of laser technology, lasers are equally effective on hard tissues. Lasers have a plethora of uses in pediatric dentistry includingprevention of caries, prompt diagnosis, restoration of cavities, managing cases of trauma to teeth alongwith various minor oral surgical procedures. Lasers are advantageous for being more rapid, more precise, sterile and providing a bloodless field of surgery and are also better accepted by pediatric patients and theirparents. In the same light, treatment of a pediatric patient becomes easier it is less fear-inducing for thechild thus increasing co-operative behavior. The soft tissue covering over a partially erupted tooth is knownas pericoronal flap or gingival operculum. Surgical removal of the latter is termed as Operculectomy. Thefollowing text reports a case of Operculectomy performed using a diode laser in the pediatric operatory.

Abstract

Gingival recession can be defined as the progressive loss of gingival soft tissues. Most of the recession casescan lead to root exposure, interdental bone loss, mobility of teeth. The defect can involve one or multipleteeth. Eventually it progresses towards the root hypersensitivity and tooth loss due to mobility. Recessioncan be treated via using different treatment modalities, by using gingival grafting and regeneration. Graftingprocedure entails to harvesting the tissue from donor sites and suturing it back to the area of recessionfor root coverage. For regeneration purposes, various biomaterials are used with improved properties.Techniques involved in gingival grafts and regeneration involves free gingival grafts, coronally advancedflaps, guided tissue regeneration, etc. This case series reports the effectiveness of various techniques forvestibular deepening along with root coverage, removing the frenum pool along with increasing the widthof the attached gingiva, etc.

Abstract

A major part of the world population is affected with carious teeth, among which the number of childrenaffected is maximum. Carious lesions are more common in susceptible, uninsured and financially weakpopulations. Caries which are not treated for a very long period along with no utilization of available servicesin both developing and underdeveloped countries pose an essential public health question. Children havelimited adaptive capacity which may also lead to difficulty in some treatment procedures. Hence, the needfor an efficient and affordable approach for dental caries treatment was required in areas that have a finiteaccess to oral health care services like the school children. Nowadays, Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) isvery much in demand as it can control caries progression and is very less technique sensitive. This approachdoes not require caries excavation using instruments, in addition silver has many antimicrobial propertiesand fluoride helps in remineralization.
