Abstract

This research aims to provide an overview of the decent work conditions of media workers, especially journalists, in the rapidly developing era of digital technology and communication. The concept of decent work is defined as working conditions that provide workers with freedom, fairness, security, and respect for human dignity. By adopting several indicators of decent work for media workers from previous research, this study uses 6 indicators to determine the conditions of decent work, namely: employment relationship/employment agreement system; wage/salary system; fulfillment of employment rights (benefits); financial condition; equal opportunities and treatment in employment; and social security. This research uses an online survey as a data collection method and descriptive analysis to explain the findings. A total of 46 respondents were journalists working in Magetan Regency. The results showed that the indicators of employment relationship/employment agreement system; wage/salary system; fulfillment of employment rights (benefits) and social security have not been fulfilled optimally. Thus, media workers, especially journalists in Magetan Regency have not received decent working conditions. Keywords⎯ decent working conditions, media workers, journalism, journalists

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the 2024 Presidential Election debate news is framed in two mass media, namely Assumption.co and Republika.co.id. Both media are known to have political affiliations. The CEO and Founder of Assumption.co, Pangeran Siahaan, was involved as the Spokesperson for the National Winning Team (TPN) for the Ganjar-Mahfud pair. Meanwhile, Republika.co.id is a media under the auspices of PT Mahaka Media Tbk, which was founded by Erick Thohir, Chief of the National Winning Team (TKN) Fanta, one of the elements of the Prabowo-Gibran TKN. Using Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method, this study examines four key elements of framing: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and recommending treatments. In addition, this study also applies two major dimensions from Entman, namely issue selection and highlighting certain aspects. The study's results reveal differences in how the two media frame news related to the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs. Asumsi.co consistently frames the 2024 presidential debate by focusing on the positive image of the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pair, highlighting their mature performance and mastery of the material, while republika.co.id is more varied, highlighting aspects of personality, physical gestures, and rhetoric, with a primary focus on the positive image of Prabowo Subianto as a firm and experienced leader, as well as additional highlights on Gibran Rakabuming Raka, while being more critical of Anies Baswedan, especially regarding political ethics. Abstract

Since the start (1997), Harian Solopos has been committed to being present as a local newspaper. The absence of local print media at that time was considered a business opportunity that should be capitalized on, given that no newspaper had ever been able to survive for long in the city of Solo. Harian Solopos appeared to break the myth of Solo as a "graveyard" for newspapers. This myth stuck as almost every newspaper published in Solo failed to survive (produce). This study aims to reveal the historical traces of the Harian Solopos newspaper, from its early days of emergence to its continued existence amid the current wave of advances in information technology. The research approach used is historical analysis. The primary data source for this research is the results of in-depth interviews with several editors-in-chief of Harian Solopos, and several valid and credible pieces of literature reinforce this. This study found that Harian Solopos attempted to survive by engaging in a series of media convergences. Harian Solopos implemented an online platform in 2007, a time when other newspapers were still reluctant to do so. In addition, Harian Solopos remains consistent in its presence as a representative of local Indonesian-language newspapers in Solo. These efforts have enabled Harian Solopos to survive until now and have allowed it to develop into a local multi-platform newspaper.
