Abstract

The internationalization of higher education constitutes a strategic agenda in the development of Islamic educational institutions across the ASEAN region. This study aims to examine the policies and implementation of International Student Mobility (ISM) programs at the ministerial level and within Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia, comparing them with their counterparts in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, while simultaneously formulating an effective ISM model to enhance the competitiveness of Islamic higher education institutions in ASEAN. This research employed a qualitative approach with a multi-site study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, Focus Group Discussions, and document analysis across eleven institutions, comprising five Islamic universities, four public universities, and two overseas institutions. The findings reveal that ISM programs at Islamic higher education institutions can be classified into six categories: international study programs, teaching practice, community service, internship, international forum participation, and international exhibition. Key success factors include leadership commitment, supportive institutional policies, international partnerships, and language competency development. Major challenges encompass limited funding, language barriers, and complex administrative procedures. This study contributes to filling the literature gap regarding contextual ISM models for Islamic higher education institutions by proposing a model framework that integrates Islamic values, inter-institutional cooperation, and flexible credit recognition systems. These findings are significant as a policy foundation for the sustainable development of internationalization within Islamic higher education institutions across the ASEAN region.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage patterns among students of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at Nahdlatul Ulama Islamic University, Jepara, namely AI Dependency and AI Assisted Learning. These trends are determined based on the patterns of AI use in academic activities, including the use of AI without editing, the use of AI in writing scientific articles without filtering, the use of AI as a framework for assignments, reference searches through AI, and information verification using official scientific sources. The study used a comparative quantitative approach with a survey design of 84 PAI students. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed descriptively-comparatively using frequency distribution and percentages. The results showed that 98.8% of respondents acknowledged that AI helped complete academic assignments and 95.2% felt an increase in learning efficiency. However, only 10.7% of respondents used AI completely without editing, while 81% stated that excessive use of AI has the potential to reduce critical thinking skills and academic integrity. In addition, 63.1% of respondents used AI to obtain initial references, while 79.8% continued to verify information through scientific indexing pages. These findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education students are more likely to adopt AI-assisted learning patterns than AI-dependency, utilizing AI as a learning support tool, not a substitute for thinking. This research underscores the importance of strengthening AI literacy and ethical guidelines for AI use in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of religious social conflict between At-Tadris Islamic Boarding School and the community of Bengkel Village, West Lombok. It aims to analyze the forms and causes of the conflict, the resolution process, and the transformation of post-conflict social relations within the context of Islamic education. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using an interactive model. The findings reveal that the conflict evolved from a latent phase characterized by negative social perceptions of new religious practices into a manifest conflict triggered by the rapid spread of unverified information regarding an alleged assault on a religious teacher. The conflict was resolved through security measures, mediation, reconciliation (islah), and the active involvement of religious and community leaders, leading to the gradual restoration of social relations and broader community participation in pesantren activities. The novelty of this study lies in explaining religious social conflict as a dynamic process that develops from latent to manifest conflict and subsequently transforms into strengthened social relations through community-based reconciliation. Practically, the findings suggest that pesantren leaders should strengthen inclusive communication and actively involve local communities in religious and social activities to prevent misunderstandings and build mutual trust. The study also provides educational stakeholders and policymakers with insights for developing community-based conflict prevention and reconciliation strategies within Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the collaboration between Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers and parents in fostering students' Islamic character at SMP Negeri 17 Tanjung Jabung Timur, a topic of growing importance amid the moral challenges facing Indonesian adolescents in the digital era. The purpose of this research is to describe the forms of collaboration between PAI teachers and parents, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors involved. This topic is significant because character formation cannot rely solely on school-based instruction but requires consistent reinforcement at home. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, involving PAI teachers, students, parents, and the school principal as informants. The findings reveal that collaboration is implemented through structured religious habituation programs at school, the use of the "7 Habits of Outstanding Indonesian Children" journal as a monitoring instrument, and a continuous role-sharing system between teachers and parents. The most critical inhibiting factor is the lack of parental control over students' nighttime gadget use, which directly undermines the religious discipline built at school. This study contributes a practical model of continuous supervisory role-sharing that can serve as a reference for Islamic character education policy in public schools.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of teacher creativity in creating engaging learning processes that can enhance students’ learning activity, particularly in Aqidah Akhlak subjects, which are often perceived as monotonous. This study aims to describe the forms of creativity exhibited by an Aqidah Akhlak teacher in developing educational games based on the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model to enhance student learning activity at MTs Al-Munawarrah, Jambi City. A descriptive qualitative approach with a field research design was employed. The research subjects were Aqidah Akhlak teachers, with supporting informants including the school principal, other teachers, and students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that the teacher developed educational games by modifying conventional games and activities, thereby successfully increasing the activity levels of most students. These findings are significant as a basis for professional development policies for madrasah teachers that go beyond providing physical facilities to building a psychological and cultural ecosystem that sustainably nurtures teacher creativity.
