Abstract

Sea turtles are a protected animal because its population is almost extinct. There are six species of sea turtles in Indonesia, the only one species of turtle that was never found in Indonesia is camps's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempi). Six species of sea turtles are found in Indonesia’s water are leatherbacks (Dermochelys cociacea), green turtle (Chelonia mydas), hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Olive Ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), turtle flat (Natator depressus), loggerhead (Caretta caretta). Four endangered species of sea turtles are leatherback turtle (Dermochelys cociacea), green turtle (Chelonia mydas), hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Olive Ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea). The research was conducted in the Nature Park District area of Tanjung Belimbing Paloh, Sambas using observationmethod. These observations were made on the area that has 9193 meters long coastline and beach slope 6-12%. Result of field analysis showing that was the turtle nesting habitat characteristics was sand temperature 28.2 ° C - 29.8 ° C, sand moisture content 5.2%, 99.43% texture of sand, temperature air 23 ° C - 29 ° C, humidity 73% - 79%. During the study has been found four green turtles (Chelonia mydas) with the longest carapace was 120 cm, the shortest carapace was 90 cm, the biggest carapace width was 85 cm and the smallest was 66 cm. The turtle nesting time ranging between 20:00 pm - 2:00 pm. The threat like beach abrasion. The biggest threat still comes from human action and behavior where turtle’s egg used for consumption, trade and habitat destruction due to the garbage that comes from the sea. Abstract

Demand for wood has increased, while timber production decreased, in particular high quality wood. Therefore necessary the technology to improve low quality wood (III-V) such as Jelutung (Dyera Costulata Hook. F.) using with densification wood. There are two treatments used in this research, namely temperature press (1600 C, 1700 C and 1800 C) and pressing time (50 minutes, 60  minutes and 70 minutes). Sampleswere made of Jelutung wood with size30 cm (L) x 8 cm (W) x 4 cm (H).It steamed at 1200 C and hot pressed with a 30% target thicknes.Physical(color and impression of rabbah, water content, density and dimensional changes) and mechanical (MOE, MOR and  MCS) properties testing refers to British Standard Methods No.373 (1957). Results of research have shown that densification can improve the physical and mechanical properties of Jelutung wood. This research also pointed out that the treatment temperature press 1800 C and pressing time 70 minutes was the best treatment. Abstract

Bats (Chiroptera) is a taxa that has an important function ecologically, such as helping to pollinate flowers, seed dispersal, insect population control and the regeneration of the forest. The aims of this research is to determine the species diversity of bats in Gunung Ambawang protected forest, Kubu Raya regency, West Kalimantan. The method used is catch and release method using mist nest. The result of research obtained that the bats were caught as many as 65 individuals consist of 6 species (Balionycteris maculata, Chironax melanocephalus, Cynopterus minitus, Penthetor lucasii, Hipposideros larvatus, Emballonuridae monticola) belonging to 3 family (Pteropodidae, Hipposideridae, Emballonuridae). Based on the feed, there are 4 species of Bats as frugivorous or fruits eater (Megachirotera) : Balionycteris maculata as many 7 individuals, Chironax melanocephalus 11 individuals, Cynopterus minutus 14 individuals and Penthetor lucasii 7 individuals. Insectivorous or insect eater found 2 species (Microchiroptera) : Hipposideros larvatus as many 14 individuals and Emballonura monticola 12 individuals. Abstract

The diversity of vegetation which is quite high in some areas of the forest one of which is a protected forest areas Ambawang mountain. Limited data on the diversity of vegetation and standing stock in the mountain protected areas Ambawang make motivastion in this study. Creating a great power to preserve the forest. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of vegetation in protected forests Ambawang mountain forests. By using the method used is a double plot squares method, by taking a sample plot vegetation with many examples, which is made of  20 pieces measuring 40 x 40 are placed evenly distributed in accordance with the conditions of the closing of vegetation. Observations find the type of vegetation results showed that in the area of Protected Forest Mount Ambawang found 19 species of trees making forest stands for all levels of forest stands found in 20 plots of observation with the observation area of 3.2 hectares. Abstract

The increase of the population and a wide range of activities can provide a great influence towards the utilization of the natural resources that come from the forest. This has resulted in reduced customs and forest area of occurrence is increasingly threatened. This will require good of indigenous forest management, so it can retain and sustainment the forest. The problem is the factors are a driving factor in maintaining indigenous forest of society and if there are relation between the individual factors that led to the existence of the indigenous forest to be good or not. This research is aim to know the driving factor in maintaining indigenous forest of society and to know the relation of each the individual factorsis: the income rate, level of public knowledge, customary law, and public perception in maintaining indigenous forest. This research used a descriptive survey and interview techniques. Result of this research the driving factor of society in maintaining indigenous forest in the village of Peninsung because forests retain and store where the water source that river in the village are not easy to dry be used by communities to used daily as well forest products is are plentiful, especially timber and non timber that can be utilized by the public. Abstract

The usage of wood is not limited to household appliances but also used wood for the exterior. Wood have a high decorative value because of its color and fiber pattern. Wood decorative value increase the economic value of wood. Sengon (Paraserianthes Falcataria (L). Nielsen), one of wood species which not have interesting pattern and color thus through this research dyeing process conducted to know the optimum concentration of Sengon staining by using several natural extract such as the rind of Mangstosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana L.), bark of Acacia mangium and Mangrove tree bark. There were four level of concentration used 5%, 10% , 15% and 20%. The result showed that the highest extract yield percentage derived from A. mangium bark followed by mangrove bark and mangoosten fruit rind (32.67%, 29.09% and 28.37 respectively). While for pH value, mangoosteen fruit rind extract have the highest value followed by mangove bark extract and A. Mangium bark (5.8-6, 5-7 and 5-5.2 respectively). The highest absorbance value derived from A. Mangium bark extract followed by mangosteen fruit rind extract and mangrove bark extract (0.715 ppm, 0.476 ppm and 0.439 ppm respectively). A. Mangium bark extract also shown the highest absorbance followed by mangrove bark extract and mangosteen fruit rind (0.699 ppm, 0.477 ppm and 0.4 ppm) in 478 nm wavelength with 800C. Dyeing process with mangosteen fruit rind extract with 20% concentration resulted highest retention value (9.064 kg/m3) while for the brightness resulted from 10% concentration. Kaywords: A.mangium, Mangrove bark and Mangosteen fruit rind, Natural dye, Sengon.
