Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the affirmation of self-existence against patriarchal construction in the novel "Lady of Scandal" by Tina Gabrielle. This research used feminist approach Simone de Beauvoir (2016) in her theory women existence. This study focused on four factors that caused women against patriarchy, namely submissive, matchmaking, mala fide and domesticity. To analyse kinds of affirmation against patriarchal construction, researcher focused on the Beauvoir terminology related; the intellectual, being herself, and freedom to actualize self. This research used qualitative methods. In this study, the researcher found on two points that made woman against patriarchy. First, because women have seen as second sex who were oppressed by men based the values and norms by society who believed in patriarchal culture. Second, woman awareness against patriarchy reflected from the showing of her existences as a woman

Abstract

This study titled Narrator Xenophobia as seen in The Call of Cthulu by H.P Lovecraft: A Psychological Approach is a psychoanalytical analysis of Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulu (1928), the study aimed to identify the personality of Francis Wayland Thurston, the main narrator of the story, xenophobia and self-defense mechanism issues and also figure out the characterization of this character. As a literary research, this study utilized the use of psychoanalytic criticism by Sigmund Freud as the analytical tool and also the concept of self-defense mechanism proposed by Berger. In addition, this study utilized the descriptive qualitative research method, where the writer read the short story thoroughly to obtain the data needed for the discussion. The finding of this research is that the character of Francis Wayland Thurston does has some issues with xenophobia which causes him to utilized the self-defense mechanism needed to ensure his safety. Therefore, the writer concluded that Francis Wayland Thurston in this short story does represent the characteristic of a xenophobic person.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe an aspect of impoliteness found in utterances in the form of comments that contained impoliteness strategies specifically found in comment columns, theory about the aspects of impoliteness strategies purposed by Culpeper. The main instrument in this research was the context in utterances written by haters in comment columns. Then, it made this study used a pragmatic identity method to analyze data due it focused on utterances from haters. In addition, the design of this research was qualitative descriptive because this study described impoliteness strategy in words only. Indeed, researcher used non-participant technique to collect the data in screenshots. The last is an informal method used in this study, researcher used this method to present data in text form. The results of this study were only four strategies from five strategies by Culpeper that used by haters while commenting the posts. There were, positive impoliteness strategy, negative impoliteness strategy, bald on record strategy, mocking politeness or sarcasm, but withhold politeness strategy which was not applied by hatters. In addition, there are five causes which trigger hatters used impoliteness strategies while giving comments, there are fake accounts, sexual harassment, emotions, environment, and LGBT problems.

Abstract

This research discussed  the positive and negative politeness strategies in The Last Song novel by Nicholas Sparks (2009). The data were the utterances in The Last Song novel. This research was mainly aimed to find out the strategies of positive and negative politeness. The theory applied in this research was taken from the book entitled “Politeness Some Universals in Language Usage” proposed by Penelope Brown and Stephen C Levinson (1987). This research was the descriptive qualitative research. Method of collecting the data used observational method by using non-participatory technique. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the pragmatic identity method. The research result showed that the characters in The Last Song novel applied all the strategies of positive politeness and negative politeness except the eighth strategy of negative politeness; state the face threatening act because The Last Song novel was the romantic novel and there was no regulation, obligation, social rule from the country.

Abstract

Regional boundaries have an important meaning as the limits of regional government authority in carrying out regional government functions. Implies the emergence of conflicts between regions regarding the assertion of territorial boundaries because it is related to upholding the existence and sovereignty of each local government. In this research, the purpose of writing is not only to describe the conflict resolution process through the administrative process, but also relates to the settlement process through a review of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia by the Constitutional Court. The method used in this research is normative juridical. Through this research the writer can find research that is contrary to legal principles. Whereas Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 76 of 2012 is the correct regulation that is able to resolve conflicts in border areas. The administrative process regulated in Law Number 23 Year 2014 has not been able to resolve the problem of border area conflict even though the decision is a final decision but also has legal remedies as a review in court.

Abstract

To have a high motivation and better life standards, work life is an important factor It is expected that not just monetary benefits increase the motivation but physiological factor like approval and feeling of helping others. The purpose of this study is determining preferences of job life quality and motivation of workers in healthcare. To determine the Job Quality of Life and motivating factor affecting satisfaction, 109 questionnaires about 10% of staffs (900 staffs) were applied to the Bingöl city main government hospital at third quarter of 2016. Descriptive statistics are used to analyze questionnaires. Materialistic prizes such as permission and wage increase are seen the most effective rewarding methods. Moreover, they do not want to have a good communication with management and they are not eager to take more responsibilities and authority.

Abstract

Instagram is one of the most famous social media for the number of millennials in Indonesia. There are around twenty-two million Indonesian users of Instagram according to Instagram Monthly Active Users data. It was dominated by millennial users. Instagram is likable because everyone feels free to share their creativity in a fun way. There are many Instagram users from several gender men or women and circles such as influencers, celebrities, educators, politicians, etc. Instagram was chosen for this research because Instagram gives Millenials opportunities to write freely, so this means caption Instagram will be a great place to get some information about the reliability of gender stereotypes in their writing. This research takes the focus of the study of gender language style on Instagram captions endorsement and decides to choose some influencer as a target of research. This research aims that there is a slight difference between men's captions and women's captions on Instagram, especially on how they deliver the endorsement product. This research use critical discourse analysis (CDA) and text as a critical objective (TACO) as a methodology to analyze Instagram captions. The result of this study will be the literature that fills the information gap how the existing theory or some statement about women and men's writing style reliable to the reality in the Instagram caption.
