Teaching English as a Foreign Language Overseas Journal (TEFLO) is a Journal of English Education Study Program of Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja (p-ISSN:2461-0240) is a scientific journal published third a year in April, August and December. It was established on 25th September 2016 for printing. TEFLO publishes articles as the results of research and scientific work either empirical or conceptual. This journal focuses on both research and conceptual articles done by any English teacher or lecturer within Indonesia or overseas countries. It allows any writer to submit up to 8-12 pages or equivalent with 2500 to 4000 words in range. It applies APA style in all articles submitted to this journal. While the scopes include English Language Teaching (ELT) in EFL or ESL context, English applied linguistics (EAL) in any form: empirical or conceptual. TEFLO focuses on and welcomes researchers in both EFL and ESL contexts to publish professional or conceptual articles, and research articles formed in a qualitative and quantitative study in the area of the following scopes: Analysis of English pieces of literature in the English Education Context Discourse Analysis in the English Education context ELT Material Development English Applied linguistics English for Specific Purposes English Language Testing and Evaluation Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Anthropolinguistic Tourism and Local Wisdom issues

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the use of the Total Physical response method (TPR) through tiktok as a learning media to improve students' listening skill at SMAN  18 Makassar. The research used pre-experimental research method. The population of this research was eleventh grade students of SMAN 18 Makassar at first semester academic year 2023/2024. The number of the sample were 33 students. The research collected the data by giving pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data of this research was analyzed by SPSS 25 version. The researcher concluded that there was a significant improvement in students' listening skills by using the Total Physical Response (TPR) Method through Tiktok as a learning medium. This is supported by the results of the average scores in the pre-test and post-test. The average score on the pre-test was 55.45, while on the post-test was 84.70. The significant value in this study is 0.000 which is smaller than 0.5. This means that there is a significant improvement in students' listening skills with the Total Physical Response (TPR) Method through Tiktok as a Learning Media

Abstract

Tiwi Arisca Aguisty Lowu, 2023. Implementation of Ice Breaking in Speaking Skill at SMA Kartika XX-1 Makassar. Skripsi, English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Education and Literature, Bosowa University (Supervised by Andi Hamzah Fansury and Rampeng). This study aimed to find out whether the implementation of Ice Breaking improve the student speaking skill. This study focused on pre-experimental research one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this study were students of class X MIPA 4 SMA Kartika XX-1 Makassar and it consist of 20 students as the population. Data obtained from writing test pre-test, treatment, post-test, and questionnaire. The results of this study used inferential analysis of the t-test by SPSS 25 version which showed a significant effect on the students? mean score speaking skill between the pretest and post-test. The mean score of the students? speaking enhanced from 40.60 in the pretest to 72.60 in the posttest. The significance value calculated 0.000 was smaller than 0.05 (P-value = 0.000 < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that there are significant influences of using Ice Breaking method on students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This research aimed to know there in any significant improving using Daily Vlog on students’ speaking skill in class XI SMAN 1 Enrekang. This study focused on pre-experimental research one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this research were students of class XI SMAN 1 Enrekang. The researcher took 334 students as the population. The sampling is students of second-grade IPA 1 with totaling 23 students. Data obtained from speaking test. The result of this study used inferential analysis of the t-test by SPSS v.21, which showed a significant improving on the students’ mean score speaking skill between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students’ speaking enhanced from 44,26 in pre-test to 78,26 in the post-test. Thus, it can be concluded that there is significant improving Using Daily Vlog on students’ speaking skill in class XI at SMAN 1 Enrekang

Abstract

The focus of this study to investigate the satisfaction on learning EFL based on students’ perception to work mechanism of English teacher. Qualitative method used in this research. There were 360 students from some senior high school in Makassar as population in this research with total number of samples were 30 students taken by using purposive sample. The research instruments were interview, and questionnaire. The work Mechanism of English teacher has walked better. That can be analyzed by pursuant of data field from students’ perception that English teacher in bringing the materials have used assorted of method, using planning in teaching, owning ability to manage the class better, and discipline in running the duty. But based on the data obtained in the field, there are still some teachers using conventional methods that make students feel bored in class. After conducted this research, it is expected that the policies of stakeholders, especially in schools so that in the future the learning process will run better and the quality of teachers will be better so that the output obtained is far better than before

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to examine whether the use of Match Games Improve the students’ vocabulary and to find out the strengths and the weaknesses of Match Games. The researcher was applied pre-experimental design the population is the seven grade students of SMPN 17 Makassar in academic year 2021/2022. The total number of populations is 240 students. The researcher was used total sampling technique. relatively baseline knowledge based on their test examination average scores. The total number of samples was 30 students from class VII-5. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer was used SPSS for windows.  After implementing the research, the researcher concludes that the use of Matching Games in teaching English vocabulary enriches the students’ vocabulary; it is proved by the mean score of the students’ posttest. The t-test of the students’ vocabulary achievement in posttest was smaller than ? (0.000 < 0.05).  It meant that the H1 of the hypothesis was accepted

Abstract

This research aimed at enriching the students’ writing ability particularly content and organization in writing descriptive text by using Engage, Study, Activate (ESA) Method. A pre-experimental design was employed with one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample was only one class consisting of 30 students that was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data were obtained through writing test.  Findings showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test was 4.23 and it was improved to be 7.2 in post-test. Therefore, the statistical computation described that Engage, Study, activate (ESA) Method was effective in improving the students’ writing ability in descriptive text. It is supported by the value of t-test that is bigger than the value of t-table (18.5>2.045). Therefore, the Alternative Hypothesis was accepted and the Null hypothesis was rejected. Designing the learning purpose appropriately which considers students’ needs and language level may ease teachers to use the Engage, Study, activate (ESA) Method in improving students’ writing descriptive text. The teachers may try to take advantage of Engage, Study, activate (ESA) Method to be utilized in their class room activities to conduct an effective and interesting learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Abstract

The problem in this research is that education for children with special needs and inclusive education in Indonesia has so far received little attention and cannot be handled optimally. So this study aims to find out about the quality of education in Indonesia, the development of children with special needs who have differences from normal children in general, both in terms of physical, mental, intellectual and social, and in inclusive education. The method used in this research is library research, using books and other sources. The results of the study explain that as citizens, children with special needs (ABK) and inclusive education have the same rights and obligations as citizens and have the same treatment, including in obtaining education.

Abstract

The problem in this research is the low learning outcomes of students in learning speaking skills. The formulation of the problem in this research is how to apply the Role-Playing method to improve speaking skills in class V students at UPT SPF SD Negeri Baddoka, Kecamatan Biringkanaya, Kota Makassar. Based on the problem formulation, the researcher carried out a follow-up with classroom action research consisting of 4 patterns, including: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection using the Role-Playing method. The type of research used is classroom action research (PTK) and the approach used in this research is a qualitative approach. The focus of this research is the application of the Role-Playing method and students' speaking skills. The subjects of this research were 1 teacher and 34 students. Data collection is carried out through observation, tests and documentation. In this research, learning refers to learning steps using the Role-Playing method, namely starting from the learning preparation stage, the learning implementation stage, and the final learning stage. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data from observations of teacher teaching activities and student learning activities experienced an increase, which in cycle I was in the sufficient category and in cycle II it increased to the good category. The research results of students' speaking skills in cycle I were in the sufficient category and in cycle II they increased to good category. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the Role Playing method can improve speaking skills in class V students at UPT SPF SD Negeri Baddoka, Kecamatan Biringkanaya, Kota Makassar

Character education is an effort to form good attitudes, behavior and actions in individuals so that they can create people with character. The character education curriculum has become mandatory at all levels of education in Indonesia, including basic education. Abstract

This study examines students' learning motivation during the pandemic in the learning process from home. In the learning process, motivation is needed. Motivation can arise from intrinsic (within the individual) or extrinsic (outside the individual). These two factors are very important and continuous in increasing student motivation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the learning process is carried out from home, so learning motivation can be influenced by several factors. From the research results obtained, there are many factors that do not support the student learning process during the pandemic. These factors, among others; technological skills, internet network connections, learning media used, student capacity for online learning, and so on. Thus, it can be neglected that student motivation during the pandemic in the learning process from home has decreased.
