Abstract

This study aims to determine the importance of technological literacy in supporting the independent learning of Elementary School Teacher Education students in the context of distance learning. With the development of information and communication technology, distance learning has become a commonly used method, facilitating access to various learning resources without time and place limitations. However, the implementation of distance learning faces challenges, including limited access to technology, readiness of teaching materials, and limitations in effective communication between lecturers and students. This study uses a quantitative correlational method with a total sampling technique on 44 distance learning students to analyze the relationship between online learning and independent learning. The analysis results show that although digital literacy is important, there is no significant relationship between online learning and student independent learning. This finding indicates the need to improve digital literacy to support optimal independent learning in an online learning environment.

Abstract

Higher education plays an important role in improving the quality of life of families and supporting economic and social development. However, the high cost of education is an obstacle for MSME families, so that the main business income becomes the main factor in financing the education of family members. This study aims to analyze the potential household income of MSMEs in rural areas of Jambi Province, Indonesia, to support higher education costs at the University of Jambi. Using a quantitative descriptive method, this study involved 23 MSME families. The analysis was carried out by comparing the cost of higher education with the income allocated from the main and additional businesses. The results show a ratio of income to education costs of 0.4, meaning that income from the main business is not enough to finance family education. If income from additional businesses is calculated, the ratio increases to 1.08, indicating the family's potential to meet the cost of higher education. This finding emphasizes the importance of business diversification and increasing family income to be able to support higher education sustainably. It is recommended that MSME families develop businesses in other fields to increase income, while the government is expected to provide entrepreneurship training, access to financing, and business assistance. These efforts are expected to increase access to higher education for MSME families significantly and sustainably.

Abstract

The exploration of understanding of how the role of parents is concretely manifested in supporting early English literacy in the home environment, especially in the EFL context, as well as the parental challenges. This study addresses that gap by exploring parental involvement, highlighting flexible, interest-based approaches and emphasizing the significance of home literacy environments (HLE) as conceptual framework. This study utilized a qualitative descriptive approach to provide a comprehensive narrative revealing parents’ involvement during the literacy process. The data obtained twice using semi-structured interviews involving two full time mothers currently enrolled as masters’ students. The data analyzed in Thematic to identify six main aspects consist of physical environment, parental literacy habits, children-parent interaction, children interest engagement, parental beliefs and attitudes, and barriers in parental involvement. Due to the trustworthiness, this study integrates member checking by participants validation and peer debriefing to avoid bias subjectivity. The results of this study reveal that parental involvement practices in flexible, creative, and child-interest based approaches are considered due to parental beliefs in concern on growth of their children. In spite of the time constraints, overload parental role, and children learning motivation inconsistency, the participants exhibited strong commitment to overcome the challenges through parental partnership collaboration and play-based learning. This study highlights the responsive literacy practices in shaping English early literacy in HLE context.
