Abstract

This study examines the influence of TikTok content on Generation Z's body image, focusing on two main concepts: body positivity and body ideal. The study employs a descriptive-analytic qualitative method with a case study approach, observing TikTok-related content through documentation, observation, and literature review techniques. The findings reveal that while the body positivity movement on TikTok has positive effects, such as encouraging self- acceptance and body diversity, the body ideal narrative promoting unrealistic beauty standards remains dominant. This creates tension for Generation Z in understanding and accepting their body image. The study highlights the importance of digital literacy and more inclusive platform algorithms to create a healthy and diverse social media environment.

Abstract

This study analyzes the interactions and dynamics of virtual group communication within the community of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile players from the perspective of communication sociology. The research focuses on how digital communication shapes teamwork patterns, negotiation, and decision-making processes, as well as the role of in-game symbols in forming social identity and group hierarchy. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews and literature review. This study integrates Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism Theory and Anthony Giddens' Structuration Theory to understand how group norms and symbols, such as nicknames, ranks, and in-game achievements, influence social dynamics in virtual communities. The findings reveal that these symbols not only reflect social status but also establish dynamic group norms. The social structures within the PUBG community are flexible, shaped by player interactions, and contribute to team solidarity. This study provides insights into how virtual spaces, such as PUBG Mobile, serve as platforms for building social identity and fostering complex cooperation, while also revealing the implications of digital communication on group dynamics in real-world contexts.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the framing employed in the film Budi Pekerti which depicts a case of cyberbullying against Bu Prani, a guidance counselor who becomes a victim of social stigma due to the spread of a viral video. The film vividly demonstrates how society often forms hasty conclusions without understanding the actual context, resulting in various harmful negative reactions towards the victim. This qualitative study utilizes a data collection technique involving direct observation of scenes in the film, documentation, and a literature review focusing on framing theory and social construction. The findings indicate that biased framing can create public perceptions that are inconsistent with reality, damage an individual's reputation, and reinforce social stigma against victims. In Bu Prani's case, the narrative presented through social media in the film demonstrates how public opinion is shaped by disseminated information, even if it is not always accurate or complete. This research concludes that by enhancing media literacy, the public can become more critical in responding to the information they receive. This not only helps reduce the negative impacts of unfair framing but also promotes the emergence of more positive and empathetic narratives towards victims of cyberbullying.

Abstract

This research explores the role of social media influencers in shaping the meaning of Generation Z's perception of consumerism in the digital era. With a qualitative approach and phenomenological methods used, this research utilizes in-depth interviews with Generation Z respondents who have active involvement with influencer content on social media. Research findings show that the role of influencers, by applying strong representations and symbols, is able to build an image of prestige and social identity that influences Generation Z's consumption patterns. By referring to the Simulacra theory put forward by Jean Baudrillard, this research highlights that social media is not only a space mere promotion, but also a tool for creating a new reality that encourages an excessively consumerist lifestyle. Thus, the main conclusion states that the meaning of perceptions regarding consumerist attitudes among Generation Z is influenced by the hyperreality created by influencers on social media, where the symbolic value of a product is more important than its functional value.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of social media in enabling housewives to start and develop online businesses, focusing on strategies for building virtual relationships. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design involving several successful housewives running businesses through social media. The findings indicate that social media offers flexibility, allowing housewives to manage businesses without neglecting domestic responsibilities. Strategies such as consistent content creation, personalized interactions, and participation in online communities are effective in building strong virtual relationships, boosting sales, and fostering customer loyalty. However, challenges such as limited time, capital, and digital marketing knowledge often hinder progress. Social support from online communities helps housewives overcome these challenges and expand business opportunities. The study concludes that social media plays a crucial role in the economic and social empowerment of housewives, providing psychological benefits such as increased self-confidence and skill development.
