Abstract

This research was conducted to map the factors that became the source of student learning difficulties in terms of the learning process and the difficulties experienced in solving Newton's style and law problems. The population of this descriptive study was all students of class VIII in Langkat Regency, while the schools that were the samples in this were students of class VIII in three schools, namely SMP Negeri 2 Stabat, SMP Seri Langkat, and SMP Negeri 3 Satu Atap. Data collection in this study was conducted using student questionnaire instruments, teacher questionnaires, learning activity observation sheets, student activity assessment sheets and essay questions. The analysis of the research results found that the factors that influence the learning difficulties of junior high school students in Langkat Regency are the weak of Utilization of Learning Resources / Learning Media, the inadequate learning which can trigger and maintain student engagement and the low ability of students to solve problems coherently. Keywords: Learning Difficulties, Descriptive Study, Observation Sheet

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of the Inquiry Training Model on students' critical thinking skills. This research design uses two group pretest-posttest technique. All of Student Class X in SMA Negeri 1 Stabat was the population of this research. Then two classes were selected as samples of the study, one class as an experimental class is taught using the Inquiry Training learning model while the other class as a control is taught using a conventional learning model. The research data collection instrument was in the form of 5 validated essay tests which would later be analyzed using the t test. The results of the study indicate that the inquiry training learning model has a significant impact on increasing students' critical thinking skills compared to students learning with conventional models on momentum and impulse material. Keywords: Inquiry Training, Critical Thinking Skill, Momentum and Impulse

Abstract

This study aims to determine the validity of the instrument and determine the level of effectiveness of the development of assessment instruments for learning outcomes of cognitive aspects based on scientific approaches to dynamic fluid material based on the assessment of experts, teachers and class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Stabat. The type of research used is research and development (R&D) using the 4-D model. The subjects in this study were 2 expert lecturers, 1 physics teacher, 9 small group test students and 33 large group test students. The object of this study is the validity and effectiveness of the instrument. The results of the experts' assessment showed the Aiken V index of 0.95 (good validity). The results of the validity of a small group test, 15 valid questions, and effective questions. While the results of the validity of a large group test, 12 valid questions, and effective questions. Then the development of student learning outcomes assessment instruments based on a scientific approach to class XI dynamic fluid material gets decent criteria and excellent assessments based on the criteria of experts, teachers and students. Keywords: assessment instruments, learning outcomes, scientific approaches, dynamic fluids

Abstract

This study aims to develop HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill) test instruments that are able to measure the level of students' critical and creative thinking skills in optical material. The research method used is the ADDIE Research and Development method (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, & Evaluate). The research subjects used students from Medan An-Nizam Private High School T.P 2018/2019. The study produced 20 items of test instruments consisting of multiple choices and essays showing that HOTS thinking skills (Higher Order Thinking Skill) from the study sample amounted to 39 people were 18% of students had creative thinking skills, 23% of students had Creative-Critical thinking skills, 54% of students had skills critical thinking, and 5% of students with superior skills are critical. Keywords: Development of HOTS Test Instrument, Optical Material, ADDIE Method.

Abstract

This study aims to look at the science process skills of students using guided inquiry learning models assisted by the PhET media on the science process skills (SPS) of light subject matter, students in class XI, second semester, of SMA Negeri 9 Medan Academic Years 2018/2019. The population is all students of class XI semester II. With the cluster random sampling technique, the class XI IPA 1 was selected as the experimental class and XI IPA 2 as the control class. Before the study was conducted, the average pretest value of the experimental class was 38.43 and the control class was 38.31. In testing the normality and homogeneity of the two classes, it is obtained that the data of both classes are normally distributed and homogeneous. Furthermore, in the experimental class guided inquiry learning was carried out using PhET media and conventional learning was carried out in other classes. After learning is given then in the two classes conducted posttest with the average results of the experimental class 83.33 and the control class 70.60. From the results of hypothesis testing, there was an increase in students' SPS due to the influence of the PhET guided inquiry learning model on student’s SPS the of light wave principal. Keywords: Learning Models, guided Inquiry, PhET media, Science Process Skills (SPS)

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning on Student Learning Outcomes in Momentum and Impulse Material in SMA Negeri 14 Medan A.Y.2018 / 2019. This study used the quasi-experimental method with the research design of two desaign pretest-posttest groups. The population of this study was all students of class X SMA 14 Medan. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling consisting of two classes with a total sample of 66 students. The instruments used were essay tests totaling 9 validated items and observation sheets for student learning activities. Analysis can be done by testing normality, homogeneity and t. The results of the study showed that there were differences in student learning outcomes taught by using problem-based learning models with a posttest average value of 76.79 compared to students who were taught with conventional learning with a posttest average value of 67.73. From these results, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model is better used in improving student learning outcomes. Keywords: Learning Activities, Learning Outcomes, Problem Based Learning

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the problem based learning (PBL) model on students' creative thinking skills in simple harmonic materials in the second semester X class of SMA Negeri 1 Batang Kuis. The research method used was quasi-experimental with the design of two group pre-test post-test. The population of this study was all class X IPA 4 as the experimental class applied PBL model and in class X IPA 3 as the control class applied a conventional model, each class as many as 32 students. The data of this study were obtained using an instrument in the form of an essay test consisting of a test of creative thinking skills, each amounting to 5 items that have been declared valid. Analysis can be done using normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing. The finding of the data analysis obtained the average posttest value of creative thinking skills experiment class 68.5 and the average value of the control class 59.18. The posttest data t test results There are significant differences in creative thinking skills between students who learn to use the PBL model and students who learn to use conventional models. Keywords: Creative Thinking Skills, Problem Based Learning, Simple Harmonic
