Abstract

Abstract: The kersen leaves contain of chemical compounds such as a flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and saponin. Standardization of kersen leaves is needed because of great potential inside it. One of standardization is testing the moisture content, water-soluble extract content, and ethanol-soluble extract content of kersen leaves simplicia. This research aims to determine the moisture content, water-soluble extract content, and ethanol-soluble extract content of kersen leaves simplicia. The method used in this research is the posttest only design. The kersen leaves are dried in an oven at 50°C for 24 hours and then be mashed using a grinder and sieved until they become powder. The testing of moisture content, water-soluble extract content, and ethanol-soluble extract content was conducted using the gravimetric method. The test results were analyzed descriptively and compared with previous literature. The result of average moisture content on kersen leaves was 6.15±0.03%; the water-soluble extract and ethanol-soluble extract of kersen leaves were 4.05±0.09% and 5.75±0.05%. Based on the results showed that the moisture content of kersen leaves has complied with the requirements of <10%. Meanwhile, the ethanol-soluble extract content of kersen leaves has higher than the water-soluble extract content, this concluded that a content of kersen leaves has non-polar characteristic.

Abstract

Abstract: In recent years, the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries have undergone significant changes, marked by increasing competition among service providers, including pharmacies. Pharmacies must adapt their marketing plans in response to regulatory changes, service digitization, and increasing public health awareness. The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review of the existing literature on the relationship between pharmacy turnover success and marketing mix tactics. Databases including Google Scholar, PubMed, and Sciencedirect were searched, analyzing English and Indonesian-language publications published between 2015 and 2025 using the PRISMA method for systematic literature review. Of the 745 articles found, five were eligible for inclusion and further analysis. The results indicate that the key elements of the 7Ps of marketing—competitive pricing, product availability, and high-quality service involving both human resources and processes—have a significant impact on purchasing decisions and consumer loyalty. The study suggests that digital-based marketing initiatives and consumer education are important complementary elements in improving pharmacy performance. Overall, this study concludes that to maximize pharmacy turnover and competitiveness in the ever-changing healthcare environment, the 7P marketing mix must be implemented in an integrated and customer-oriented manner.

Abstract

Abstract: Curcuma is known to play a role in preventing the side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs (OAT), including hepatotoxicity, by protecting liver cells from oxidative stress and inflammation induced by drugs. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between Curcuma tablet supplementation and the level of liver damage (hepatotoxicity), as measured by AST, ALT, and total bilirubin levels in pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Pasar Rebo Hospital. This study was non-experimental and classified as an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was conducted retrospectively, by reviewing past medical data and events. The sample in this study consisted of a portion of pulmonary tuberculosis patients undergoing OAT therapy at Pasar Rebo Hospital, East Jakarta, during the period of January–December 2024. The results showed that Curcuma tablet supplementation provided significant benefits to the liver health of pulmonary TB patients, as indicated by a statistically significant decrease in AST, ALT, and total bilirubin levels (p < 0.05) after treatment. This decrease in liver enzyme and bilirubin levels reflects improved hepatic function and reduced hepatotoxicity. Thus, Curcuma tablets have been proven effective as a hepatoprotective agent in the context of OAT therapy..

Abstract

Abstract. Bacterial keratitis is a corneal infection that may lead to pain, visual impairment, and even permanent blindness if not promptly and appropriately treated. In outpatient settings, empirical antibiotic therapy is often chosen as the initial management because culture and sensitivity results require more time, whereas delays in therapy may worsen the clinical condition. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of empirical antibiotic therapy on clinical improvement and follow-up visits in patients with bacterial keratitis. A systematic literature review was conducted by searching PubMed and Google Scholar for articles published between 2015 and 2025. From 242 articles identified, 12 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further. The findings revealed that moxifloxacin and ciprofloxacin were the most frequently prescribed topical antibiotics, with treatment durations ranging from 7 to 21 days. Overall, empirical therapy was shown to accelerate clinical improvement, particularly within the first week of treatment. However, evidence supporting a reduction in follow-up visit frequency remains limited and presents varied results across studies, potentially due to differences in study design and patient conditions. Factors such as treatment regimen, duration of therapy, disease severity, and patient characteristics were also reported to influence the variability in outcomes. In conclusion, empirical antibiotic therapy appears to be clinically effective for bacterial keratitis. Nevertheless, to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of its impact on follow-up visits and implications for outpatient services in Indonesia, further research with larger sample sizes and prospective study designs is required.

Abstract

Olae (Etlingera calophrys), an endemic of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, is traditionally used as a culinary spice and  medicine, yet remains scientifically underexplored. This study investigated the phytochemical composition, antioxidant activity, and acute toxicity of infusion extract from the seeds and fruit pericarp. Phytochemical screening was performed using specific color reagents, antioxidant activity was evaluated with the 2.2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method, and acute toxicity was assessed by the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) against Artemia salina. The seed infusion contained alkaloids and phenolics, while the pericarp infusion contained tannins and phenolics. Antioxidant testing revealed very strong radical scavenging activity, with SC₅₀ values of 0.05 g/100 mL (seeds) and 0.04 g/100 mL (pericarp). Toxicity testing indicated no significant toxicity, with LC₅₀ values of 1740 g/100 mL (seeds) and 2510 g/100 mL (pericarp). These findings suggest that infusion extract of E. calophrys possess strong antioxidant potential and are safe for use, supporting their prospective application as natural antioxidant sources.

Abstract

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, characterized by a high prevalence rate and ranking as the second most common cause of death globally. The elevated prevalence of cancer is closely associated with its hallmark features of uncontrolled cellular proliferation and aberrant mitotic processes. One plant species proposed to possess antimitotic potential is the lawi-lawi plant (Caulerpa racemosa). The bioactive compounds contained within this alga have been demonstrated to exhibit diverse pharmacological activities and are traditionally utilized by Indonesian communities as a natural source of antioxidants. This study employed a quantitative approach using a true experimental post-test-only control group design to evaluate the effect of an 80% ethanol extract of C. racemosa on the inhibition of mitosis in sea urchin (Tripneustes gratilla) zygote cells. The results of the antimitotic assay revealed that the C. racemosa extract exhibited an IC₅₀ value of 208.93 µg/mL, whereas the positive control, Vincristine, demonstrated a markedly lower IC₅₀ value of 2.46 µg/mL. These findings indicate that the 80% ethanol extract of C. racemosa possesses measurable antimitotic activity, although its potency is moderate when compared with the strong inhibitory effect exhibited by Vincristine.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern that requires long-term treatment with Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs (ATDs). The success of therapy largely depends on patient’s adherence to the prescribed regimen, which is influenced by various behavioral and psychosocial factors. This study aimed to determine the level of medication adherence among TB patients taking ATDs and analyze the factors influencing adherence, including knowledge, motivation, and social support. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional was conducted involving 43 respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale 8 (MMAS-8) and questionnaires assessing knowledge, motivation, and social support. The findings showed that 41,9% patients had low adherence, 25,6% had moderate adherence, and 32,6% had high adherence. Of the three factors analyzed, ony motivation exhibited a statistically significant association with adherence (p= 0,038), while knowledge (p=0,757) and social support (p=0,216) did not show significant associations. In conclusion, motivation represents a major determinant of adherence among TB patients. Interventions that emphasize motivational enhancement and educational engangement by healthcare providers should be prioritized to improve adherence and optimize treatment outcomes for tuberculosis.
