Abstract

Trihexyphenidyl (THP) is a type of anticholinergic drug. The anticholinergic side effects of trihexyphenidyl drugs are categorized as peripheral or central. Common peripheral side effects are dry mouth, lack of sweating, decreased bronchial secretions, blurred vision, difficulty urinating, constipation and tachycardia. Central side effects of anticholinergics include impaired concentration, attention and memory. Drug abuse is the use of drugs (e.g., pain relievers, tranquilizers, stimulants, sedatives, etc.) and over-the-counter drugs (e.g., loperamide, promethazine, antitussive cough syrup, etc.) for purposes other than medical for the purpose of pleasure, resulting in dependence, physical damage, psyche and even death. It has recently been revealed that trihexyphenidyl (THP) is one type of drug that is often abused. the prevalence of anticholinergic abuse is 34%, and trihexyphenidyl is the most commonly involved anticholinergic due to its tendency to produce a “high”.

Abstract

Herpes zoster and crusted scabies are dermatological conditions that pose a higher risk and clinical severity in immunocompromised patients, particularly those with chronic comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension. This case report presents a 55-year-old woman with painful vesicular eruptions on the right neck and generalized thick, crusted, itchy plaques across the body. She had a longstanding history of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Clinical diagnosis of herpes zoster and crusted scabies was confirmed through physical examination and KOH microscopic testing, which identified Sarcoptes scabiei. The patient was treated with oral acyclovir, topical permethrin, and supportive therapy to manage pain and prevent secondary infections. The coexistence of herpes zoster and crusted scabies in a diabetic patient highlights the role of impaired immunity in disease severity and presentation. Early recognition and integrated management are essential to improve prognosis and prevent complications.

Abstract

Physical activity is essential for optimizing human health. According to the WHO, more than a quarter of the world's adult population (1.4 billion people) is inactive in physical activity, and this figure increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inactivity is one of the risk factors causing NCDs. According to the Ministry of Health, NCDs cause the deaths of 41 million people (71% of global deaths) every year, and physically active has been shown to reduce the incidence of NCDs and can increase body muscle mass as an indicator. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between work, gender, age, and physical activity with muscle mass in the people of Uteunkot Village, Lhokseumawe. This non- experimental study used a cross-sectional approach with a total sample of 94 samples obtained by the accidental sampling technique. Physical activity data were obtained with the 2003 IPAQ questionnaire, and the percentage of muscle mass was measured using the Tanita BC-730 scale. The results showed that the majority of respondents between the ages of 17-25, working as Civil Servants/BUMN/ BUMD, doing moderate physical activity, have a normal percentage of muscle mass, while women have low muscle mass. The conclusion of this study is that there has been no proven relationship between physical activity and muscle mass, However, a significant relationship with a strong correlation was found between sex and muscle mass in the people of Uteunkot Village, Lhokseumawe.

Abstract

Priapism is a urological emergency that can cause permanent disability so it requires fast and precise treatment by a doctor, we recently treated a man with intermittent idiopathic ischemic priapism with oral gabapentin 300 mg and dutasteride 0.5 mg, Before we decided on pharmacological therapy as an effort to prevent recurrent episodes of erection, we had planned invasive therapy as a first-line therapy option, namely aspiration, irrigation, inter cavernosal therapy with winter procedure, but before we had time to do the procedure the penis had detumescence so we canceled the procedure considering that massive bleeding occurred and there was no clinical benefit if the procedure was continued, the treatment immediately showed results after administration with a decrease in the frequency and duration of erections. In the second week the patient came back to our hospital emergency room, we planned the same action winter procedure but before we could do it the penis had detumescence, we gave additional pharmacological therapy Dutasteride 1x0.5 mg, After giving a combination of gabapentin and dutasteride for 2 weeks and we noted no reports of recurrent erectile episodes after and after stopping the drugs there were no reports of recurrent erectile episodes. Gabapentin and Dutasteride may be the main safe choice for the management of intermittent idiopathic ischemic priapism.

Abstract

Mercury is a highly toxic and bioaccumulative heavy metal. Despite its prohibition, mercury is still frequently found as a contaminant in cosmetic products, particularly in whitening products. This article aims to review and present various findings from previous studies on mercury levels in cosmetic preparations marketed in Indonesia, analyzed using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The method employed is a literature review of scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025, selected based on their focus on mercury analysis in cosmetics use of the AAS method. The review results show that the majority of whitening creams and lotions contain mercury levels exceeding the safety limits set by the Indonesian National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM RI), with some samples showing extremely high concentrations reaching thousands of ppm. In contrast, other preparations such as powders, hair dyes, and deodorants generally have low or undetectable mercury levels. These findings indicate a lack of understanding regarding mercury and its dangers, especially regarding compliance with regulations on cosmetic products, especially those sold online. The conclusion of this review emphasizes the need for enhanced regulatory enforcement, stricter supervision, and increased public education to protect consumers from the health risks posed by mercury-containing cosmetics.

Abstract

The prevalence of cardiovascular disease has continued to increase over the years, leading the World Health Organization (WHO) to designate it as a global health threat. Pycnogenol, a proprietary name for proanthocyanidins—a specific class of bioflavonoids—is known for its potent antioxidant properties. It neutralizes unstable oxygen molecules, or free radicals, that damage body cells. One of the notable benefits of Pycnogenol is its positive effect on cardiovascular health. This study aims to evaluate the effects and potential benefits of Pycnogenol consumption in relation to cardiovascular disease. This article uses a literature review method by collecting scientific articles published within the last ten years (2014–2024) from reputable online sources such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink. The results of the study show that Pycnogenol, as a phytochemical compound, plays a beneficial role in maintaining cardiovascular function and preventing heart disease, atherosclerosis, and other cardiovascular conditions. All reviewed articles consistently describe the connection between Pycnogenol intake and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In conclusion, Pycnogenol demonstrates strong antioxidant activity that may contribute significantly to the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases.
