Abstract

This article examines Jesus Christ’s message to the church in Philadelphia in Revelation 3:7–13 through a Greek-based exegetical approach. The Philadelphian church is one of only two churches in Revelation that receive commendation without rebuke, giving it distinctive theological importance. This study employs Greek syntactical analysis, focusing on the distinction between grammatical form and semantic function, particularly in the use of the genitive case, verbal aspect and tense, and participial and imperative constructions. Historical and archaeological data from the city of Philadelphia in Asia Minor are also considered. The findings indicate that Christ’s title as the holder of the “key of David” underscores His absolute authority to open and shut, granting divine access, protection, and vindication. Despite limited strength and external opposition, the church’s faithfulness becomes the basis for divine praise and eschatological promise. This study demonstrates that careful attention to Greek grammatical features yields important theological insights into the message of Revelation.

Abstract

This study examines the psychological dynamics of Moses’ leadership during the wilderness crisis through a narrative exegetical analysis of Numbers 11:11–15. Unlike previous studies that emphasize historical and theological-political aspects, this research highlights the concept of prophetic burden as a form of mental strain involving emotional exhaustion, cognitive distortion, and deep despair. Using a narrative-critical approach, the analysis shows that Moses’ distress is driven by excessive internalization of responsibility and social isolation, shaping his theological perception of God. The narrative resolution, through the appointment of seventy elders, demonstrates that leadership burdens are not meant to be borne individually. The study concludes that Scripture acknowledges the emotional vulnerability of leaders and affirms the necessity of a collective model of leadership in addressing ministry burnout.

Abstract

This study examines the Aramaic fragments of the Book of Enoch (4QEn; 4Q201–4Q212) from Qumran Cave 4 and their significance for Second Temple Judaism. It argues that 4QEn functioned not merely as apocalyptic literature but as a foundational theological framework shaping the Qumran community. Using an interdisciplinary qualitative approach—combining philological, paleographic, and comparative analysis—this study evaluates the role of Enochic traditions alongside texts such as Jubilees, Temple Scroll, and Community Rule. The findings indicate that 4QEn presents an integrated system encompassing cosmology, a 364-day calendrical structure, apocalyptic historiography, and ethical instruction. This study concludes that 4QEn played a central role in shaping Qumran’s theological identity and should be understood as part of the broader conceptual background of early Christian eschatology, without implying direct textual dependence.

Abstract

This study examines the role of worship music in the formation of congregational faith within a contemporary church context. While previous studies often emphasize the aesthetic and participatory aspects of music, this article argues that worship music functions as a form of affective mediation that facilitates faith experience rather than directly producing faith formation. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 191 respondents at Gereja Kristen Indonesia (GKI) Palu. The analysis shows a moderate and significant relationship between music ministry and faith formation (r = 0.552; p < 0.05). The findings indicate that worship music contributes primarily through the affective dimension by enhancing spiritual engagement and experiential participation in worship. However, its role remains complementary and must be integrated with theological teaching and pastoral formation. This study contributes to practical theology by proposing a relational model in which music operates within a broader ecosystem of faith formation rather than as an isolated factor.

Abstract

In Christianity, fat and deeds hold equel value. In this regerd, Evangelicalism emphasizes tha importance of social deeds over faith as a tangible expression of faith, a means of introducing the Gospel, and proof of love others and God. The method employed in this study is the hermeneutical approach developed by Grant Osborne, focusing specifically on faith as discussed in Romans 5:1a, and responding to the Evangelical understanding that compares faith with deeds. The research findings indicate that humanity is justified by faith in Jesus Christ, not by sosial deeds. This clarifies that deeds are te fruit or result of faith that has already been obtained. While social deeds can be performed by anyone, faith, acquired belief in Christ, is not possessed by everyone, meaning social deeds cannot be used as a measure to convey the Gospel (faith in Christ) to those who do not yet know Christ. True faith will lead a person to live righteously and produce results in their deeds, in accordance with God’s will.

Abstract

This paper examines the challenges posed by postmodern theology to the principle of Sola Scriptura within a Reformed theological framework. Employing a qualitative literature-based approach, the study analyzes the development of postmodern epistemology and its implications for truth, authority, and biblical interpretation. The findings indicate that relativism, deconstruction, and the rejection of metanarratives constitute major challenges to Sola Scriptura, particularly regarding the authority of Scripture as absolute, final, and infallible truth. The shift from a theocentric to an anthropocentric orientation further reinforces subjective approaches to Christian faith. This paper therefore reaffirms the importance of Sola Scriptura as a theological foundation that safeguards the integrity of divine revelation in a postmodern context.

Abstract

The issue of pseudonymity is frequently raised regarding several books in the New Testament, which, if proven true, would have serious implications for the concept of biblical inerrancy. This study aims to evaluate the function of pseudonymity in Jewish literature, its understanding in the Greco-Roman world, the early church’s assessment of pseudonymous writings, and their implications for inerrancy. The method used is library research with a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature study, combining historical and theological analysis. The results show that pseudonymity emerged with various motives across all three cultural contexts, yet its acceptance was not universal. The early church consistently rejected pseudonymous writings and ostracized their authors, in contrast to the Greco-Roman context, which in certain situations accepted them. In conclusion, integrating historical findings with the doctrine of inerrancy yields three implications: apostolicity as the normative foundation of inerrancy, the incompatibility of pseudonymity with the nature of God’s truth, and the lack of sufficient historical basis to consider the New Testament canon as containing pseudonymous documents.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of the term Kurios for Jesus in the New Testament as a basis for theological argumentation to prove His divinity. The term Kurios, meaning “Lord,” has a significant background in the Septuagint tradition, where it was used to translate the name of God (YHWH) in the Old Testament. This study employed a qualitative, exegetical approach, encompassing contextual, grammatical, lexical, historical, and theological analyses of crucial texts. The results show that the use of the term Kurios is not only honorific but also an explicit recognition of Jesus divinity within the context of the early church's faith. Thus, the term Kurios provides a strong biblical foundation for the doctrine of Jesus' divinity in Christian theology.

Abstract

This study critically analyzes the dialectical encounter between Jacques Derrida’s Deconstruction of the Biblical Logosentrisme and Herman Bavinck’s Internal Witness of the Holy Spirit (ITHS) as the decisive epistemological solution. Derrida’s critique, centered on différance (the deferral of linguistic meaning), exposes the text’s vulnerability at the level of human language, consequently fostering skepticism and hermeneutical relativism in the postmodern era. Utilizing a qualitative, dogmatic-philosophical method, this research argues that while Derrida's analysis accurately reflects the limitations of fallen human reason, it is ultimately rendered irrelevant to the believer. ITHS functions as a supranatural act of illumination, strategically shifting the anchor of certainty from the vulnerable object (the text) to the sovereign action of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit effectively bridges the différance gap, implanting an autoptistic and certain conviction regarding the Logos's authority. This synthesis supports presuppositional apologetics, establishing ITHS as the primary warrant that safeguards the Biblical Logos as the final and binding truth against contemporary relativism.

Abstract

This study examines the hermeneutical thought of Hans-Georg Gadamer, particularly his concepts of prejudice, dialogue, historicity, tradition, and the fusion of horizons, as well as how these concepts interact with the Evangelical doctrine in Indonesia, which emphasizes the absolute authority of the Bible. Through a qualitative approach based on literature review and comparative analysis, the study demonstrates that Gadamerian hermeneutics can enrich the understanding of Evangelical theology within Indonesia’s multicultural context, especially in contextualized evangelism and interfaith dialogue. However, Gadamer’s approach also generates tension with Evangelical principles, particularly regarding the authority of revelation, the relativism of meaning, and the risk of syncretism. This research offers a critical and reflective synthesis of the two approaches and proposes the development of a more dialogical, contextual, and relevant Evangelical hermeneutics capable of addressing Indonesia’s cultural and religious plurality.
