Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition characterized by hemoglobin levels below normal values based on age and gender. According to the West Kalimantan Health Department, the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls increased from 18.3% in 2019 to 23.8% in 2020. Meanwhile, only 55.74% of adolescent girls in Pontianak received iron supplement tablets across 23 public health centers (Melyani, 2019). Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between peer support and the consumption behavior of iron supplement tablets among adolescent girls at SMAIT Al-Mumtaz Pontianak in 2024. Methods: This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all female students in grades 10–12, with a total sample of 57 respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: The findings showed that 43.9% of respondents received good peer support, while 56.1% received poor support. Regarding supplement consumption, 30 respondents (52.6%) demonstrated good behavior, and 27 respondents (47.4%) showed poor behavior. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between peer support and supplement consumption behavior (p = 0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between peer support and the consumption behavior of iron supplement tablets among adolescent girls at SMAIT Al-Mumtaz Pontianak in 2024. Strengthening peer-based education and support programs may improve adherence to iron supplementation and help prevent anemia among adolescents.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases among the elderly and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular complications. One non-pharmacological effort to control blood pressure is engaging in physical activity such as hypertension exercise, which is specifically designed to help lower blood pressure and improve heart health in the elderly. Objective: To determine the effect of hypertension exercise on reducing blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension at UPT Puskesmas Gang Sehat, Pontianak City. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design without a control group, using a pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 17 elderly individuals selected using a Insidental sampling technique. The intervention involved performing hypertension exercise four times over two weeks, with each session lasting 20–30 minutes. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: After the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced a reduction in blood pressure. For systolic blood pressure, 13 respondents showed a decrease after performing hypertension exercise, with the Wilcoxon test yielding a significance value of p = 0.003 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between systolic blood pressure before and after the intervention. For diastolic blood pressure, 12 respondents experienced a decrease, with a significance value of p = 0.028 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Hypertension exercise is proven to be effective in lowering blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization (2020), 90% of women experience menstrual pain, with 10–16% suffering severe pain. In Indonesia, the prevalence among adolescent girls reaches 64.24% (107,673 individuals). Although menstrual pain is not life-threatening, it can disrupt daily activities, cause fainting, depression, and reduce quality of life. Therefore, efforts to reduce menstrual pain are important. Objective: To determine the difference in the effectiveness of effleurage massage and deep back massage methods in reducing menstrual pain among SMAIT Almumtaz Pontianak students. Methods: This comparative analytical quantitative study used a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 32 respondents were selected using total sampling. Data were analyzed using the Marginal Homogeneity and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The average decrease in menstrual pain frequency scores was 13.13 for the effleurage massage group and 19.88 for the deep back massage group. Both methods effectively reduced menstrual pain frequency. However, statistical analysis showed no significant difference in effectiveness between the two techniques, indicating that both are equally effective in reducing menstrual pain. Conclusion: Both effleurage and deep back massage are effective in lowering the frequency of menstrual pain. Nevertheless, based on the mean decrease, the deep back massage method appears to be slightly more effective than effleurage massage in alleviating menstrual pain among adolescent students.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Indonesia. Early detection through Breast SelfExamination (SADARI) is cheap, easy, and can be done independently, but the practice in the community is still low Objective: To describe the level of knowledge and skills of women of childbearing age (WUS) in conducting SADARI in the working area of the Telaga Arum Health Center, North Kayong Regency Method: Quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 167 WUS was obtained by consecutive sampling (March–September 2025). Instruments: AWARE knowledge questionnaire and skills observation sheets that have been validated (r item of knowledge ≥0.610; r item of skill 0.618–0.979) and reliable (Cronbach's α knowledge 0.853; skill 0.971). Univariate analysis presents frequency and percentage distributions. Results: The majority of respondents were aged 25–34 years old (44.9%), housewives (74.9%), junior high school education (74.3%), Muslim (83.8%), Javanese (41.9%), and had no family history of cancer (100%). Knowledge level: adequate 45.51%, good 36.53%, less than 17.96%. CONSCIOUS Skills: Enough 44.91%, Less 32.93%, Good 22.16%. Conclusion: The knowledge and skills of SADARI WUS are in the sufficient category, with a good portion that is still limited. It is necessary to strengthen practice-based/demonstration-based applicative education as well as blend with community activities to convert knowledge into correct and routine skills.

Abstract

Background: Wounds are broadly defined as any tissue damage or disruption caused by physical or mechanical factors, chemicals, radiation, or temperature. One of the primary responsibilities of nurses is to facilitate the wound healing process through appropriate wound care. Modern wound dressing techniques involve closed wound management while maintaining moisture to accelerate healing, promote new tissue growth, and prevent infection. Adequate knowledge of wound care procedures enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment. Furthermore, nurses who demonstrate positive attitudes toward patients can provide gentle and compassionate care, making patients feel more comfortable and supporting faster recovery. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge and their behavior regarding the use of modern wound dressing at Tk.II Kartika Husada Hospital, Pontianak. Methods: This quantitative, correlational analytical study used a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all 78 nurses working in the inpatient wards at Tk.II Kartika Husada Hospital. A total of 44 nurses were selected as samples using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires assessing knowledge and behavior and analyzed using the Fisher Exact Test. Results: The findings revealed that 29 nurses (65.9%) had a sufficient level of knowledge regarding modern dressings, while 28 nurses (63.6%) demonstrated appropriate behavior in performing modern wound care based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between knowledge and behavior in the use of modern dressing among nurses at Tk.II Kartika Husada Hospital, Pontianak, as indicated by a p-value of 0.000 < α (0.05).
